This is too important a discussion to give up on and as it looks like rumbling on for some time yet we need to be able to air our thoughts good or bad, vent, rage.
Whatever..because I think everyone will agree , no matter which side they are on
The current situation is shit.

I took that screenshot on March 27
It was buzzing around the Internet
By the evening or the next day, I can’t find the screenshot
It was back up to high

So I can sit on her toilet but not on her chair? Again where's the sense in that?

The sense (however real the risk is) is that you are in the toilet on your own, you're not in a confined space together endlessly rebreathing the same air full of virus from one of you. Outside there's endless fresh air.

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2020 19:07

We've decided we are taking the kids to see their grandparents next weekend. We'll be in their house and won't be distancing. They've seen no one since the start of lockdown and nor have we. They aren't over 70 or vulnerable. It's lower risk now than in a few weeks once the kids are back at nursery. We're all sick of this shit and aren't doing it anymore.

Dowser · 07/06/2020 19:08

So how come, we came home on a crowded plane with 7 12 strangers all within 2 metres of us for 6 hours yet we didn’t sick.
The obvious answer is
either none of theM had the virus
We have a good immune system
It’s not that easy to get

Or all three.

I think it’s the big coronacon of 2020
I’m not saying, something hasn’t gone around.
I’m not saying people haven’t been ill and died
I’m saying it was never as lethal as it was made out to be

The nhs did an exercise in 2016 where they were found to be seriously lacking in everything needed for a situation like this. Obviously their findings weren’t acted on for whatever reason

We were meant to be locked down for a couple of weeks/ 3 max to get our act together and sort it out
To drag it out like this, ruin the economy and people’s lives is unforgiveable

There’s more plot holes in this than an Agatha Christie murder mystery weekend.

I work in a factory...see my post above and talk to me again about confined spaces and fresh air.

Hop on over to the anti-dementors threads, we're a very friendly supportive bunch of flockers.

Absolutely needs to end. We did lockdown to protect the NHS. We now know it can survive even if cases rise. Everyone is suffering and we need to get back to some sort of normality now. Happy to still use hand sanitizer and allow a few people into shops at a time, that would also stop other infections like tummy bugs passing round, but let us see family and go into each other houses

Noextremes2017 · 07/06/2020 21:01

The R number is a complete nonesense.

Nobody knows what it is and how it varies unless the whole population is going to be tested every day!!!!

All this crap about the R number creeping back up or coming down is just a guess based on limited evidence and small sample size.

Alleged movements in the R number are just pounced on by one side or the other to promote easing or non-easing of restrictions. Politics at its worst.

Just as the death figures are rubbish changing from ‘due to coronavirus’ to ‘linked to coronavirus’. What is the next definition going to be ‘deaths possibly linked to coronavirus, maybe’.

It is all getting ridiculous.

And yes lockdown needs to end NOW.

The SAGE group should be held accountable for crap advise and the Government likewise for not having the balls to say or do anything other than ‘we are just following the science’. Which basically means ‘when the truth comes out don’t blame us - blame them’.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 07/06/2020 22:55

@Duckfinger

It absolutely needs to end. Reduce the distance to 1m, get all the kids back to school and shops open without the queues together in.

How do you propose this will work given classrooms are unlikely to be big enough to accommodate 30 kids at 1 metre apart.

Dowser · 07/06/2020 23:47

My daughter popped in tonight for a cuppa. We had a good old chinwag about the situation.

We both agree that lockdown is almost all over now.
Oh, there’ll be a bit of posturing from the government and various agencies but the worms are coming out of the can now and they aren’t going back in
Hallelujah for that.
So many people who’ve done a very strict lockdown are starting to think they’ve been ‘had’ and they’re right, they have.
All the lovely things we’ve missed, ..holidays, weddings, milestone birthdays, music gigs, loss of income, jobs, being normal, social people ..all gone..now we have to rebuild our relationships with others , build bridges
So, let’s get our lovely country back on its feet again.

We rebuilt after the war, we can do it again.

Some retail staff will miss the power of telling us what to do if we're allowed in all together! One or two Seemingly ordinary nice people in retail have turned into bossy tyrants.
I know it's their job and been harder than usual but a few around my way have really changed when there isn't any need and most of the public have been sensible and complied with the rules. I'm always polite and been glared at etc. we're not all nasty customers out to break the rules.

If protests can go on unchecked then lockdown needs to be loosened up. People are turning themselves inside and out but thousands can break the rules and get away with it ? It's crazy.
The economy has taken a big enough hit.
I feel the government have lost control anyway by allowing the protests to go ahead during a pandemic. What were they thinking?

Use common sense and be aware.

Speeding201700 · 08/06/2020 07:12

I am beyond disgusted how all our children are being totally fucked over and even more disgusted that the media have not picked up on it. No education since 17th March? Schools closed down? I just don't understand it.

The quote by Margaret Attwood haunts me though:

“That was when they suspended the Constitution. They said it would be temporary. There wasn’t even any rioting in the streets. People stayed at home at night, watching television.”

Noextremes2017 · 08/06/2020 07:15

@The80sweregreat

Totally agree. The problem is too many people in this country have no common sense or have forgotten how to use it. Instead they love to live their lives following rules and guidelines.
Shocking but true.

Noextremes2017 · 08/06/2020 07:17

@Speeding201700

Too many Zombies who would walk off a cliff if the Government told them to!

Look how normal life is in Sweden

Noextremes2017 · 08/06/2020 07:27

I see Johnson has issued a statement about the demonstrations saying the ‘thugs’ will be ‘held to account’ for their actions.

Wonder if he will be similarly enthusiastic about his Ministers and SAGE ‘experts’ being held to account for crippling the British economy and putting what will end up being millions out of work?

Sami39 · 08/06/2020 07:28

Where is the anti dementors thread please? Ta

Noextremes2017 · 08/06/2020 07:33

The ‘lockdowners’ will argue Sweden is ‘totally different’ from the UK in terms of population density / demographics etc etc
It’s the default response for not answering a question properly. As someone pointed out on another thread cases and deaths in Sweden are proportionately exactly the same as in Scotland which has half the population but decided to lockdown!!!!

Frouby · 08/06/2020 07:39

Lockdown definitely needs to end.

An sick of seeing double standards.

Our schools are closed. Even our year 1s aren't allowed back if keyworkers need the space more. Online provision is shocking. Yet everyone should be back at work. But kids, the lowest risk of putting pressure on the NHS are kept away from their education, friends, parks, sports.

Yet middle aged men can go for a game of golf or tennis?

Ive had a veneer come off, I look a right nobber. My NHS dentist isn't planning on opening while July cos it's not safe. Yet I've managed to book an appointment at a private dentist. So it's safe if you pay at the time but not safe if you pay for it all your working life.

Load of bollocks now.
