I have to pay a fine (correctly issued). I am planning to write a letter to the council tonight to explain why I was merely following my parental instincts and why they should contact my MP instead who can explain why it’s important to forgive people like me who mean no harm. AIBU?

I actually mean to write it. Feeling unsure because I don’t want my local council to lose the money they make this way. I did deserve the fine, no argument about that. However, I would much rather spend it on my children. Naturally.

Mine was absolutely not anything as serious as the lockdown. Not even a parking fine. Something very small and insignificant, especially during the lockdown.

I can use the money (my children can). We are locked and I have been working full time while trying to educate them. This money can buy enough crafts materials for few more weeks. Or we can use it to buy a new bookcase for their room (badly needed, drowning in rogue books!). Or simply new books/apps.

My efforts to advance their education while holding a demanding job are not going well at all and I feel guilty all the time. They have loved doing crafts though and I need to replenish the supplies of the material that we collected over the last few years (all got used up pretty quickly over the lockdown weeks) and that we were not able to use much before this pandemic came upon us.

Aha! That is brilliant! But that means we are not using up the money that was meant for the fine. Are we breaking any rules there? Makes me a bit shifty. Only trying to do the best for my children.
