To not pay the fine because I was following my parental instincts?

I have to pay a fine (correctly issued). I am planning to write a letter to the council tonight to explain why I was merely following my parental instincts and why they should contact my MP instead who can explain why it’s important to forgive people like me who mean no harm. AIBU? Grin

Gosh you're witty.

Some are eaqsily impressed! Really, I know you're not serious.

manitobajane · 26/05/2020 20:19

This money can buy enough crafts materials for few more weeks. Or we can use it to buy a new bookcase for their room (badly needed, drowning in rogue books!). Or simply new books/apps.

Then you shouldn't have done whatever you did to get fined, that way you'd have the money to pay for these things wouldn't you?

heartsonacake · 26/05/2020 20:19

How many more “funny” threads of these are there going to be?

The first one wasn’t even funny, just tiresome.

BrightonBB · 26/05/2020 20:22

Thank you for making me smile OP :)

Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 20:23

I really want to know what the fine was for! Illegal parking? Unpaid dog license
That may be outing if I tell you the details. Nothing dangerous like that.
But that is a good idea for Inoneminute who can then go and park illegally somewhere to receive the fine. Just make sure it does not cause any problems for the locals.

Hide away! But accept my thanks first! You posted twice.

For the first time in my life, I am actually pretty serious about breaking a rule.

Then you shouldn't have done whatever you did to get fined, that way you'd have the money to pay for these things wouldn't you?
We do have more than enough money to pay for all of that even if we pay the fine, thank you. I am just looking for Mumsnet’s opinion on whether or not it’s reasonable to do it this way. Looks like an overwhelming majority thinks I should write the letter.
So write I will!

What colour is your council OP?

I was think more of a library book Grin

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/05/2020 20:32

Challenge it OP. One of my friends got a fine as her shopping trip was considered "unnecessary". In light of the DC thing she is challenging it. I dont think she'll be the only one.Grin

14,000 Brits Could Now Appeal Lockdown Fines Thanks to Dominic Cummings.

TYhe Government’s attempts to shore up the position of the Prime Minister’s chief advisor Dominic Cummings, by suggesting that the lockdown provisions are a matter of ‘individual responsibility’, may lead to the courts being swamped with appeals against fines imposed under its Coronavirus regulations.

FizzyGreenWater · 26/05/2020 20:34

Yes please, do. Peaceful protest indeed. They should be thankful. I remember the Poll Tax riots were a lot less so, if they're not careful with all this showing the public exactly how much contempt they hold them in, that's really the next step on the horizon isn't it?

And this isn't a thread about that odious shit - it's about the repercussions of the government's decision to publicly act as shifty as fuck and to show us all that there is one rule for the favoured and another for the rest of us.

Not really sure Matt Hancock's opinions or statements carry any weight.

The man looks like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

I am sure even Johnson just puts him forward to have a laugh.

Inoneminute

We are blue through and through. But I am not the member of any party and only vote on the basis of manifestos and policies in each election.

@Experimenopause this is brilliant. Yes you should definitely do that.

I think the public are very much loosing their patience with the disrespect we are being shown by our government. I think this is a good way of showing our disgust, I would be interested to see their responses.

PamDenick · 26/05/2020 20:41

Does anyone know which church Martin the vicar from Brighton belongs to? I am thinking of joining.
That's exactly what the clergy should be doing: exposing hypocrisy and standing up to poor.

Do please challenge your fine, OP.

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 20:42

That's good OP, not much point protesting to the other lot.

I usually vote for my local councillor based on where they live, provided their not too odious. We're not a very affluent place and lots of the parties put up candidates from outside. I don't want someone who doesn't live in the ward.

Inoneminute · 26/05/2020 20:44

I agree with PP, this is now so much more about the disdain shown for the public than what DC did or didn't do and his excuses.

BlackberryCane · 26/05/2020 20:50

Nor do I. Presumably Hancock will fully back out of what he said earlier about a possible review, he's already trying, but I definitely foresee challenges and a bit of strategic litigation!

Ravenclawgirl · 26/05/2020 20:50

Seriously? I used to work at the council and you would not believe the amount of people who had to park illegally outside Mcdonalds because their children needed a drink and it was an emergency.

MaternitySpongeBob · 26/05/2020 20:52

This with bells on.

I think everyone should do this.

It is our law - it belongs to us and applies to all of us or none of us.

Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 20:59

Ravenclawgirl
I can pay the fine, no problem. But I would much rather spend that money on my own family because they are the only people I should always go those extra (260+60) miles for!
