To not pay the fine because I was following my parental instincts?

I have to pay a fine (correctly issued). I am planning to write a letter to the council tonight to explain why I was merely following my parental instincts and why they should contact my MP instead who can explain why it’s important to forgive people like me who mean no harm. AIBU? Grin

@PamDenick
St Lukes at Prestonville

I haven't been to services there but it's a lovely building.

GabsAlot · 26/05/2020 21:18

even if itsw a joke i don think fines with nothing todo with locfkdown count

Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 21:21

Well, lockdown is all about rules and following them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 21:22

And no, I am not joking. I am quite baffled why some posters thought I am only half serious. I did write in a funny tone but definitely not joking. I have written half the letter already.

Well then there's no point unless you tell us what it was for. Accidentally dropping a small piece of litter - YANBU. Drunk and disorderly - YABVU.

onalongsabbatical · 26/05/2020 21:29

Good for you op. Govt is a shitshow, we should challenge their half-arsery in any way available to us.
If you need support I'll come with a placard.
I'M NOT JOKING!
I'm pissed, but I'm not joking. Grin

NailsNeedDoing · 26/05/2020 21:30

If your fine wasn’t a lockdown one, how is it relevant?

Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 21:31

It is quite an insignificant thing. Nothing serious at all. I think dropping litter is actually quite significant in comparison. Grin

Because I broke a rule and got fined. Why should I pay for something so insignificant when people are getting away with spreading the cornonvirus itself?

OP posts:
TerrapinStation · 26/05/2020 21:33

You've said yourself that the fine was correct, where's the relevance to fines that may not have been correctly issued?

Sounds like you'd be wasting the time of the poor council employee who has to deal with your letter, I don't see what the point of this would be Confused

Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 21:40

I don't see what the point of this would be
Well, thousands of people have been issued fines during the lockdown. That is a serious breach of rules. Some of us are lucky enough to be special advisors and have not even been issued a fine just because we have been following our instincts, not the rules.
So how come I have to pay a fine for something so insignificant when others can get away with following their own instincts, and not the rules of something as serious as the lockdown itself? I am merely following my own instincts too. ‘Tis a free country. My country, my rules, my money. Hmm

OP posts:
Experimenopause · 26/05/2020 21:41

And I am quite happy to see Mumsnet is behind me on this. Smile

OP posts:
TerrapinStation · 26/05/2020 21:46

But you're wrong, you happily admit to doing something where there's no question that the fine was properly issued.

I realise you're trying a bit of smart arsery to make a point but what ever you think of DC there is some doubt about whether he broke a law.

Just because posters are playing along with you without really thinking it through doesn't mean you're right, you'll just make yourself look foolish

RainMustFall · 26/05/2020 21:47

How in the world have they issued so many fines then? If no law was broken, why should all these other people pay any fine at all? And if they don’t pay, why should I pay? I didn’t put anyone in danger at all. I didn’t carry the virus with me across the country. If these people get away with it, why shouldn’t I?

Riots are bound to happen at this rate, while the political elite treat us like children. I'm sure that some of the things mentioned recently such as "shops may reopen" were a desperate attempt to try to get the public back onside.

Pepperwort · 26/05/2020 21:55

Go for it. The political classes need to learn that it is not one rule for them and one rule for us. If law means anything, it binds all of us. If it does not bind all of us then there is no 'us' and we can all do what we like. No more rich v poor, we can just take what we want.

TSSDNCOP · 26/05/2020 22:10

Sorry, can't agree. Pay up for something you admit was a legitimately fineable offence.

I am incensed enough by DC to have written to my MP to protest.

Doesn't mean i wouldn't pay a fine if I were issued one.

If I murder someone during lockdown can I say I should be let off because DC drive to Durham?

slashlover · 26/05/2020 22:13

Without OP telling the 'outing' fine then there's no use.

One person didn't follow the rules, so nobody should. Apparently.

Pepperwort · 26/05/2020 22:15

It wasn't just "one person", slashlover. Not just one of nameless plebs, who can be fined and told off. It was the person who set the rules. That makes a huge difference.

BigChocFrenzy · 26/05/2020 22:17

"I remember the Poll Tax riots were a lot less so, if they're not careful with all this showing the public exactly how much contempt they hold them in, that's really the next step on the horizon isn't it?"

Yep
Difficult to hold a socially distanced riot Wink
but everyone appealing every fine would probably be more effective anyway

TerrapinStation · 26/05/2020 22:20

This doesn't even make any sense anyway as DC didn't have any contact with the police during which they could have fined him but didn't, where is the comparison? He wasn't issued with a fine which he's now refusing to pay, how is your situation in any way the same?

If you had been fined for doing what he did you might have a case if it now turns out that you were allowed to do and the fine was wrongly issued otherwise it's a lame attempt to try and make a point

TSSDNCOP · 26/05/2020 22:21

I'm having a sense of humour bypass over this because I cannot see the correlation between DC being an elitist cunt with a morally corrupt puppet for a boss and the OP using that to skip a legitimate fine to buy her DC crayons and glitter.

GabsAlot · 26/05/2020 22:22

Erm because its not relevant to lockdown and any court will tell you so

TerrapinStation · 26/05/2020 22:23

No you're not, there's nothing funny.
