So no apology.
Does he have a nanny?
Family in London?
Can his wife drive?
And if you have concerns about your eyesight a 60 mile round trip with wife and son?

And Boris's update was even shorter than yesterday's 🙄
Coward.

What he did or didn’t do in Durham is irrelevant (although very funny). He should not have returned to work after going home to check on his wife and they should not have travelled to Durham. Stay at home If someone in your house has symptoms was the message - they did Have symptoms and they didn’t stay at home. That’s all there is to it. He’s a disgrace.

Just catching up on DC's presentation.
He no longer left London as he and his wife were sick or likely to be sick and for childcare for his son should that happen?
It's now to protect his family as people were aware of where he lived and his wife and son may have been at risk if alone in the house while he was at work?

^The help was being near family. Near people that love you. I remember being very sick during my first pregnancy. We were living in the SE with no family and not many friends. We went back up to Scotland for a visit and a whole weight dropped off.
What's so difficult to understand.^

Nothing difficult to understand in normal times. But I'm assuming (forgive me if I'm wrong) that this happened pre-lockdown? Before the Stay Home instruction, that meant that the above normal behaviour and support was off limits.

The more details we heard the more staggered I am. The rule about staying in main residence to isolate with symptoms was written to ensure that people didn't spread infection around the country. By defying it, that's exactly what he did, with his wife and kid going to hospital in County Durham. Absolutely inexcusable.

I'm much angrier about that than the visit to Barnard Castle - though having had a miserable birthday in the house on a lovely day to follow the rules, I'm minorly pissed off that I could have gone on an outing and used an excuse of DH needing to test his eyesight.

60 mile round trip to a beauty spot with his wife and child - that is not in dispute and is a clear breach of guidance and that alone is enough for any self respecting individual in his position to understand the concept of taking responsibility for his own actions which should result in him leaving his post. Also consider, given his circumstances he could have travelled extensively on his fathers estate for exercise etc something most people do not have the luxury of.

It is laughable that this distraction be allowed to continue, it will hurt the PM, it will hurt the Conservative party but most importantly will hurt all of us as it erodes the trust and subsequent adherence to the published guidelines. It is truly indefensible and I am still searching for the reasons why this is being defended.

I am sincerely interested, can anyone enlighten me on why this is still being defended at great cost to the PM, the government and the wider public health message?

Did anyone see the twitter post someone posted towards at the end of the last thread about the company who has been awarded the contract for the track and trace app?

Guess what?

DC’s sister is a director of this company!

And she lives in Durham of course.

@Solieltoday

That’s disgusting. How can that be allowed?

Also saw this on Wiki page on Cummings:

Cummings was accused of hypocrisy when, not long after his appointment, it was revealed that a farm that he co-owns had received €250,000 (£235,000) in EU farming subsidies. Cummings had previously described such subsidies as "absurd", complaining that some of them were handed out to "very rich landowners to do stupid things".[42]

He probably went home to sort that out. ‘Jobs for the boys’ or sister in his case.

Because he's the best they've got. The whole shambles of a Johnson and cabinet was assembled by Cummings as a bunch incompetents who he's got dirt on so he can largely keep them under control (see synchronised social media messages from them over the weekend).

They're all frighteningly incompetent and venal. He's the only one with any brains and ability at all.

That he wastes it on being a eugenics-loving libertarian narcissist (what a collection of mental issues!) is neither here nor there. Without him, the whole hard-right cabinet falls over in a puddle of its own incompetence.

Either that or they really like him as a person.

Questions I want answering

Why did his wife lie in her spectator article about their life with Corona?

Why was the contract for the track and trace app awarded to a company his sister was a director of?

Have the guidelines for the DVLA been updated and people can now test their eyesight by driving for 30 miles?

Is their going to be a redundancy scheme for all opticians if the guidance has been changed?

Because apparently she is a liar like her husband and Boris... and she wanted to cover their tracks.

The sheer gall these twats have, breaking lockdown and then bleating about their privileged experience of it in the Spectator, all the while pretending it was in London.

TheHighestSardine If he's the best there is then the country is truly fucked. He can't seem to understand that stay at home if you have symptoms means stay at home. Anyone who thinks he is the best and indespensible needs their judgement seriously questioned. That pile of crap he came out with is insulting.

Report
Maighdeann · 25/05/2020 20:14

His child was sick enough to go into hospital with a parent who had COVID SYMPTOMS (or not depending on who tells the story). He moved them all to save other people being exposed and used resources where he didn't live and doesn't regret it. He might not have planned it but the fact he can't apologise speaks volumes!

We watched Boris on the briefing tonight, changed message from stay at home to wash your hands - yeah, like you are trying to do, commented DH.

I've already had a response from my MP who is pressing Boris to sack Cummings.

The eyesight-checking drive (and let's face it, if someone put that on here we'd be getting the sorry-about-the-mass-email MN sends out for troll reports) has taken over as the worst bit for me, because before that it was the potential viral load on a small child in a car AND the risk to his parents. Not to mention the drive to the hospital, when he couldn't stand up the night before.

Report
Peregrina · 25/05/2020 20:27

Well at least the Cummings family won't be getting the €250,000 farm subsidies after the end of the year. I wonder if they will farm at all, with Liz Truss's deals destroying British agriculture?
