Surely if you are not sure if your eyes are good enough to drive with, you don't test them by getting in your car and driving!?!

What a weasel that man is. The question I'd like to ask him is:

Mr Cummings, if a member of the public had been stopped by the police and asked the reason for their car journey, and they'd answered "I'm going for a half hour drive to test my eyesight", what do you think the police response would have been?

a) Yeah right
b) We believe you, but that's not an acceptable reason for a journey.
c) Oh that's fine then, sir. Glad you're taking road safety so seriously Please continue on your eye-test journey!

Why does he think it's ok for him to interpret the rules according to his own lies 'common sense', but that everyone else should toe the line?

What's so difficult to understand.

By his wife's account he was really pretty ill. He has family nearby. His wife can't get home from hospital with his son. So why did the sister not go and pick them up. If they were prepared to help him out.

I know exactly what it's like to be away from home. We have worried about how we will cope if we are both ill at the same time.

None of that involves a very long drive north of the border.

But if it did happen and we did go North, I don't think my family would let us do it all ourselves if we were all really ill.

I know if I was so ill in my parents grounds, then DB would step up and go and pick up from the hospital. Probably breaking lockdown yes, but he would have done it whilst taking precautions.

But we all know the DC has lied today.

The specialist child care is hogwash. If the child needs specialist care, then who do these two rely on on a day to day basis? They both work, so who provides it? They have wrap around child care in place, because otherwise, how could both of them have the careers they have?

It's all a load of crap, and they think we're thick enough to buy it.

During lockdown he coincidentally went on a day trip to a castle on his wife's birthday cause he needed to test his eyesight

Interesting, too, that he insisted he's not clarified all this before because it would have caused "confusion". Odd that ... if the circumstances were SO clear I imagine most would accept his explanation

That whole speech could have been cut down to 10 seconds by saying.

"I went to Barnard Castle. I should've gone to specsavers"

Barnard Castle is a small market town in the north not a Castle

Interesting that he drove the length of the country specifically to get help from his mother, father, sister and 2 nieces, yet when he needed his son and wife collected from hospital 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 miles away, not one of them could do it.
