To call the police to my son's girlfriend's house?

popsydoodle4444 · 16/05/2020 15:29

Currently sat in tears and absolutely raging.

My son turned 16 last Sunday. He has a girlfriend;they been together since last June. They haven't seen each other since March 15th.

As the lockdown rules about time outside has been relaxed slightly today I agreed he could ride his bike to a park halfway between ours and his girlfriends house to meet her the condition he observes social distancing. My stance was being able to see her from 2 meters away was being than seeing her via phone screen.

About an hour ago I noticed his bike was still here so I called him to which the little shit has admitted he's at his girlfriends house and her mum picked him up around the corner from our house.

I am angry beyond belief right now. We've been shielding as my 13 year daughter has health issues including a heart condition.

There are 6 people in his girlfriends house,2 are still out working and his girlfriends stepdad has still been having his kids over every other weekend. The risk in their household is quite high.

I'm fuming my son has broken lockdown and put his sisters health at risk undoing all our hard work since March and that his girlfriend and her mum have also aided him in breaking lockdown rules.I currently think his girlfriends mother is a cunt for coming to pick my son up knowing he shouldn't be in a car with her and her daughter let alone in her house 😡😡😡😡.

Let him stay there until lockdown ends.

MsJaneAusten · 16/05/2020 15:34

The police aren’t going to go to his girlfriend’s house. Either call him back and isolate him (or don’t) or tell him to stay there.

Bubblebee7 · 16/05/2020 15:34

I wouldn’t call the police. Can you speak to the GF parents? I would explain to your son again that he’s putting his sister's health at risk and if he was to do it again he would have to remain at his GF house until lockdown is over.

bridgetreilly · 16/05/2020 15:35

There's no point calling the police for that, OP. I'm sorry, though. Your son is the one most at fault here. He should understand the need to protect his sister better than this.

borntohula · 16/05/2020 15:35

What do you think the police will do?

Freddiefox · 16/05/2020 15:35

Is there anywhere else he can stay? A grandparent or Aunt? I’m be cross with all of them.
What does he expect to happen?

With gobbynorthernbird

Actions. Consequences. For your son and the sneaky mother.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 16/05/2020 15:36

But not the dibble, no. No need for their involvement at all.

StillCounting123 · 16/05/2020 15:37

YANBU to be annoyed, but dial it down a bit. Crying and raging? Really?

He's a teenage boy, it's way too abstract for him to fully understand the risks, plus he's likely been swept up in the glee of seeing his girlfriend after so long apart.

Yes, it's a risk as her family members are coming and going, working etc, but there is no hint that any of them are sick or have been exposed to Covid. So in that regard you are YABU.

You were a kind mum to let him out, but I do think it's nearly impossible for teens to grasp the concept of social distance with someone they are close to normally.

SummerWhisper · 16/05/2020 15:37

Firstly, your anger is absolutely justified, especially the idiot adult who doesn't understand the rules, or worse, is knowingly flouting them. Secondly, you need to tell your son that he cannot come home until you have found suitable arrangements for him. I am overly cautious right now, with a vulnerable family member too. I would not be taking him into the house. It is too risky. But then again, can he be trusted to keep himself safe if he is not under your care? This is a very difficult situation for you.

Naaamechangedofcourse · 16/05/2020 15:37

Tell him not to bloody come home! Selfish boy

SistemaAddict · 16/05/2020 15:39

I'd be telling him to stay there although that puts him at greater risk too. If he was mine he'd have to self isolate in his room for 2 weeks. I'd be fuming too, especially with his gf's mum who has encouraged it and helped him along in putting his family in danger.

0v9c99f9g9d939d9f9g9h8h · 16/05/2020 15:40

I don't think he should return to your home. How awful.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 16/05/2020 15:40

I would read him the riot act and be sure its a one off. He was trusted and he abused the trust to do as you asked. He will now have to prove he is trustworthy

Bluntness100 · 16/05/2020 15:42

Look about one in four hundred people have it, so it’s likely still very low risk. I get your issue, and yes he needs to self isolate when he gets back. But sitting crying and calling the mother a cunt solves nothing.

That is ridiculous. He's 16 not 6. Of course he can grasp the concept. And he should be able to take it seriously for the sake of his sister.

Makes her feel better though..

Can you link to 400 people having it pls?

I don’t know what kids you’ve raised but this is utter utter nonsense. Teenagers who flout the rules are doing it because they’re selfish and want to...not because they ‘struggle to grasp the concept’. Christ

Bluntness100 · 16/05/2020 15:46

I doubt it does.

And no I can’t be arsed to link. Google it yourself for gods sake.

Funnyface1 · 16/05/2020 15:46

No I wouldn't involve the police but yes I would be furious and there would be consequences for him.

Nicknacky · 16/05/2020 15:47

There is nothing that police can do. People need to stop thinking the police are a corona problem solving department.

@Bluntness100 living up to her username. Was ‘Rudeness100’ taken?

Yeah, two teenagers in love and you thought this was going to work. Hilarious.
