Just watched the footage on C4. Really not comfortable with any of this. Staff, hospital etc all looking very gowned up, lots of cots in a big space all very clean and hygienic looking but newborn babies with no , and I mean zero, opportunities for attachment ??
This is looking very strange to me.

Baby farming. From one point of view it's buying women's bodies. From another point of view it's human trafficking in babies. Makes me very uncomfortable.

I was disturbed by it too and couldn’t help wondering why a room with a large amount of babies seemed so quiet with no crying. Very eerie!

It's so sad. I know this will turn into another bun fight on surrogacy, but I think it's wrong. It isnt fair on the babies, the birth mothers, none of it.

Yeah, lots of consumer items are dumped in storage until their overprivileged purchasers can take delivery. Traders are hoping that the customers don't reject purchases in favour of fresher/less shopsoiled models.

They did seem to be getting lots of cuddles and the nursery nurses looking after them were talking about how sad it made them feel. There seemed to be quite a few staff there. It’s certainly not ideal and a very weird and upsetting situation, but It like looked like they were being well cared for.

Personally I had no idea it was legal there and such big business.

So sad. I hope this brings home to some people that just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.

We leave dogs with their Mothers for weeks.

Social Services will go to huge lengths to avoid separating children from their families.

But if you've got enough money you can buy a newborn baby.

They said on the news it costs 50 grand. Have you ever lived in Ukraine? If the woman is seeing even half of that it is hugely life changing and may be getting them off of the streets and AWAY from human trafficking. It is like stopping zero hour contracts it sounds noble in theory but in practice it is hurting someone's lingerie

Wtf? I have never heard of this, sounds like a horror movie, so babies are taken from birth mother and put in a cot prior to being sold?

This is disgusting. It reminds me of a Romania orphanage. I know this isn’t the usual circumstances but this highlights how abhorrent commercial surrogacy is. Babies are very much products. They are ripped from their mothers and their start in life is very far from what is biologically normal. Why would you deliberately cause that to happen to a baby?

This makes me feel physically sick too. My husband was in a children's home for ten weeks as a new born before he went to his adoptive parents. When they stop crying it is because they have given up. They know it makes no difference and their needs won't be met anyway. It should be illegal everywhere. It is setting the child up for a lifetime of trauma. Unbelievably sad.

Lots of cuddles are lovely but newborns also need hours of eye contact and mirroring facial expressions., cooing, gurgling, singing, with the attachment formed from this interaction really hard to make up later.

I am saying this as a mother whose 3rd child was hooked up to every machine possible for a couple of weeks after birth..I was fortunate that I could establish feeding etc after but everything seemed so much harder.. And yes.. He never cried.

It is beyond sad, I'm not at all comfortable with surrogacy.

Gosh what a typo. To be clear: the way to stop one form of human trafficking is NOT to legalise/encourage another.
