Something to lighten lockdown a bit. I love uniforms, didn’t have them in my country growing up and I think they’re wonderful!

I think Christ’s Hospital probably has the weirdest.

Hill House International and Garden House School have very sweet ones, with GHS being pretty much what I dreamed of when imaging English schools.

I like mark's

Abbazed · 15/05/2020 17:52

American? French? Canadian?

CoRhona · 15/05/2020 17:53

My first primary school, which shall remain nameless, had a brown and yellow tie. It would definitely not be on your list Grin

littlemyyyy · 15/05/2020 17:54

@Abbazed As in, where am I from? Poland, but my mother was an English teacher and a massive anglophile, so I used to read all the Enid Blyton school series :,)

The local girls school round here has a lovely uniform.
It’s a dark green and navy kilt and navy jumper

JustAPassingFashion · 15/05/2020 17:56

@CoRhona so did mine! And I've never met anyone with the same other than those I went to school with.... Grin

bookmum08 · 15/05/2020 17:56

I prefer no uniform so the ones I would say I 'like' are the type where it's a generic trousers/shorts/pinafore/skirt and a generic polo shirt.

CoRhona · 15/05/2020 18:00

@JustAPassingFashion nearish to Liverpool?

littlemyyyy · 15/05/2020 18:01

@bookmum08

I hated having no uniform. I had no fashion sense at all and I was teased for it terribly, then there was a whole trend (if it can be called that) in my school about fitting into children’s clothes— there was a girl who fainted because she was wearing 2 pairs of thick cotton tights for 10 year olds when we were 16 in an attempt to look thinner, this was in the middle of summer.

I always loved the checked dresses they wore in Home & Away.

WobblingMyWigglyBits · 15/05/2020 18:05

There's one near us were they wear boaters in the summer
Really cute

ImBritishNotEnglish · 15/05/2020 18:05

Come to think of it, I liked the uniform in Home & Away too. Unfortunately, you can only wear that in the summer.

Bluewavescrashing · 15/05/2020 18:06

Home and Away dresses!

JustAPassingFashion · 15/05/2020 18:07

No, west midlands... they just have inflicted it on more of us ConfusedSmile

softjellycell · 15/05/2020 18:09

My school had brown and yellow ties too, we also had a fetching yellow felt hat with brown ribbon.

Catscakeandchocolate · 15/05/2020 18:11

My secondary school was brown with yellow mustard and blue. I have never worn brown since.

bookmum08 · 15/05/2020 18:11

littlemyyyy sorry to hear of your experience. I didn't wear uniform at primary (as was the norm in most primary schools in England in the 80s) and I only had to wear uniform for the first 3 years of secondary school and it was fairly generic and flexible. No one really cared what each other wore (we were quite unusual not to have a uniform at secondary).

isabellerossignol · 15/05/2020 18:12

There's loads of colourful secondary uniforms in my area. Blue, purple, turquoise, bottle green, bright green, brown and yellow, burgundy, tartan. I can't think of a colour that doesn't feature in a school uniform.

The primary schools are more boring though, mostly grey skirt and a coloured sweatshirt.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 15/05/2020 18:13

My dad went to christs hospital and when I showed damish dh the photos online of their uniform he asked if dad went to hogwarts.

I cant really think of a best uniform, just a least worse! When I went to Oz I thought theirs were hideous!

vanillandhoney · 15/05/2020 18:16

I went to private school and we had hideous tartan ankle length skirts!

They still have them now although the rest of the uniform has become slightly less formal over the years!

At primary school we had red and white striped summer dresses and straw boaters!

PontiacBandit · 15/05/2020 18:17

Our local high school is really smart, purple blazer with purple /grey tartan kilt skirt. I'd have preferred that to the horrible pea green blazer I had.

mangoinafrillydress · 15/05/2020 18:18

L'ecole des perits. The pinafore are adorable.

WhatALump · 15/05/2020 18:18

I went to Dublin a couple of years ago and saw lots of teens on school trips there. The girls uniforms there were all ankle length pleated tartan skirts and couldn’t help think that my teen girls would laugh their heads off if I told them they had to wear that.

BelfastSmile · 15/05/2020 18:18

I'm in Northern Ireland, where we have a wide variety of fancy uniforms. DS' primary school has a nice blue jumper and grey trousers/skirt/shorts.

There's a local grammar school which has pink and brown striped blazers!

Cleanerconundrum · 15/05/2020 18:20

We had straw boaters in the summer at primary school and a felt hat for the winter. The boys wore shorts all year round!

At secondary school our uniform was green and brown with an ankle length cloak. I still have mine - it kept you warm in chapel in the winter!
