Something to lighten lockdown a bit. I love uniforms, didn’t have them in my country growing up and I think they’re wonderful!

I think Christ’s Hospital probably has the weirdest.

Hill House International and Garden House School have very sweet ones, with GHS being pretty much what I dreamed of when imaging English schools.

I love the Christ’s Hospital ones, apparently the uniform has been unchanged for centuries, and the students actually love wearing it.

The Hill House uniform is unspeakably vile, and I wouldn’t send my children there for primarily that reason! Don’t think I could reliably not take the piss out of them for wearing it... Grin

The Garden House one is extremely cute, and the coats that they wear look very boujee, in a good way. You’d 100% use that as a normal coat, too.

I am a bit partial to DS's uniform.

Suzie6789 · 15/05/2020 18:25

There’s a school near me have a pale purple and grey pinafore or kilt then a purple gingham dress in summer. It looks lovely. Personally I love getting the gingham dresses out for summer term.

SachaStark · 15/05/2020 18:25

Another good thing about the Christ’s Hospital uniform is that none of the students pay for it.

LuckyMarmiteLover · 15/05/2020 18:25

DD goes to a former state school turned academy and they have navy blue kilts, blazers (and hats for special occasions).
At my secondary school we had capes with a coloured lining in the hood that depicted Which house you were in 🧙‍♀️

Grilledaubergines · 15/05/2020 18:27

The Harris group have a lovely uniform - blazers all piped with lovely bright colours. So smart.

cantkeepawayforever · 15/05/2020 18:27

LuckyMarmite - snap..... Do you think this was sufficiently rare for us to have been to the same school, or just a Thing at the time?

notcycling · 15/05/2020 18:29

A private boys school in London have grey and pink. I always thought it was very smart.

HarryHarry · 15/05/2020 18:32

I was just thinking about this yesterday. It makes me sad that my kids are growing up in a country that doesn’t have school uniforms! Having said that my own school uniform was purple so... That’s probably quite outing actually.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/05/2020 18:32

Liverpool Girls' High or St Julie's? Kilt plus blazer! The Julie's skirt is massive. There's another one that's pink and green with a massive collared blouse as well in that area.

bookmum08 · 15/05/2020 18:35

Grilledaubergenes I live near a load of Harris schools. The uniforms look smart if they are brand new but they are so expensive many children end up with one blazer for 5 years - so far too big in Yr7 and halfway up their arms in Yr11. Or they have second-hand where the stitches are coming undone. Most don't look smart at all.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/05/2020 18:35

My uniform was purple blazer, grey skirt, lilac blouse. A lot nicer than one of the other schools... With their brown skirts/trousers, brown blazers, brown ties... And yellow shirts.

I'm quite liking the Malory Towers uniform on CBbC

Bleepbloopblarp · 15/05/2020 18:35

My dd had the privilege of choosing between two prestigious private schools and I think one of the reasons she chose the one she did is that she hated the other ones uniform! I actually quite liked it - it has a checked navy/grey skirt and grey v-neck jumper. The school she chose has an open-necked shirt with no tie, it actually looks very smart though.

The worst thing is having to iron the pleats in the skirt!

There is a prep school round the corner from us where the students wear felt hats - it’s very “Madeleine” but I do think it’s a bit ridiculous in this day and age - I mean realistically how much wear are little kids going to get out of them? It’s an unnecessary expense imo.

My favourite is my ds’s uniform which has an owl on the blazer pocket and little owls embroidered on the tie - very hogwarts!

softjellycell · 15/05/2020 18:36

The Harris group have a lovely uniform - blazers all piped with lovely bright colours. So smart.

I bet they cost a pretty packet. State school with private school delusions?

lidoshuffle · 15/05/2020 18:36

My theory is whatever you had to wear as uniform puts you off that colour for life.

Luckily mine wasn't navy or black as it must be quite inconvenient not wanting to wear that. Mustard or claret however...

BillyAndTheSillies · 15/05/2020 18:38

I love the Christ's Hospital uniform. There's another school in central London where the boys where gold velvet bloomers but I can't for the life of me find the name of it!!

I'm a fan of tartan kilts, I think they look lovely.

Two primary schools near us have lovely uniforms, the girls school is navy with straw boaters in summer and the mixed sex school boys wear dickie bows.

Marmite27 · 15/05/2020 18:38

@JustAPassingFashion, @CoRhona DD1 will be entering a school in September with a brown and yellow striped tie. Brown cardi’s and skirt/pinafore and yellow gingham sundress for the summer. Her father and Aunt and Uncle also attended.

We’re in Yorkshire.

bookmum08 · 15/05/2020 18:39

softjellycell exactly. Harris kids look dreadful in their shabby and faded blazers.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/05/2020 18:40

Remembered another uniform from my childhood... The girls had massive checked bow ties!

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 15/05/2020 18:41

Can't think of any nice ones off hand, but some of my friends went to a school with a really ugly brown uniform, worn with a yellow shirt. The wearers were known 'affectionately' as the Brown Bombers. Anyone who could make that uniform look good had to be spectacularly cool!

Grilledaubergines · 15/05/2020 18:45

Not at all. a successful group of state schools With a smart uniform. Blazer cost in line with most state schools.

BikeRunSki · 15/05/2020 18:47

Nether Green School in Sheffield used to wear cargo trousers and hoodies, with a big logo on the front that looked like the Nine Inch Nails’ logo. I think they now have a more standard uniform, polo shirts and sweatshirts, but in any of about 7 bright colours to choose from. I think they just wear joggers or chinos on the bottom.

BubblesBuddy · 15/05/2020 18:47

DDs prep had a navy cloak with a red lined hood. Red blazer. In summer they had a boater with a red cockade on the side.

My old school (state grammar) had black raincoats with a red lined hood, and a red beret for the girls in winter and a boater in summer. Our “new” style dresses in the 60s were dropped waist in a red/white striped poplin. I also remember the grey wool culottes for hockey! The whole uniform cost 3 x my Dad’s weekly wages. People were desperate to go to the school and it definitely had a private school uniform. No one would ever pay that much now for a state school uniform. Lots of home knitted jumpers though and they had patterns for the summer dress do you could make your own. Different skirt for winter in y9 - the bun fronted one was y7-8 only. Tie, only available from the school office, was specially made with swans on it with golden chains around their necks.

BubblesBuddy · 15/05/2020 18:47

Bun!!! Bib.

RandomMess · 15/05/2020 18:48

Love the Christ Hospital one especially the boys and the gravity defying low hing breeches.

DD said winter uniform was lovely and warm... I reckon working in the laundry must be a work of art - especially the ruffles!

Having to wear DR Martens was an idea of sheer brilliance.
