Something to lighten lockdown a bit. I love uniforms, didn’t have them in my country growing up and I think they’re wonderful!

I think Christ’s Hospital probably has the weirdest.

Hill House International and Garden House School have very sweet ones, with GHS being pretty much what I dreamed of when imaging English schools.

I was at Hill House. The brown knickerbockers and gold long socks with the itchiest jumper ever!!!

Cremebrule · 15/05/2020 21:37

SlightyJaded I love that. If I was in charge of uniform, I’d definitely go for something like that.

junebug21 · 15/05/2020 22:28

@SlightyJaded Jesus Christ liberty or not I think that is bloody awful...sorry 🤢

TheWashingMachine · 15/05/2020 22:56

DD has brown and sky blue school uniform and looks lovely in it. She is very much an English rose and it is very flattering.

BikeRunSki · 16/05/2020 08:38

I grew up in Central London is the 1980s and went to school in S Ken and then Pimlico. Only ever had uniform for 1 year, and that was unremarkable. I was fascinated by school uniforms. In S Ken there was a girl’s prep school that wore purple berets And purple dresses - Glendower House I think. There was a state secondary school nearby too, where the girls wore kilts. St Thomas Moore. The girks next door went to Gretcoars and I love their tile-print blouses. My dad still wore his school scarf as an adult, although it was brown and purple stripes and horrible, and seemed to spend a lot of time telling us how much he’d hated school!

I loved trips down the Kings Rd after school (we had swimming lessons down there) and seeing all the Hill House and othrr Er school uniforms on people, and the Chelsea pensioners.

RandomMess · 16/05/2020 08:49

Local private girls school when I grew up had dark brown skirt/blazer and blue blouses - hideous.

BikeRunSki · 16/05/2020 08:57

What is it with all the brown uniforms?

Alyssasbackrolls · 16/05/2020 08:59

There's a purple/magenta blazer combo I see when I drive through Wigan which I always think is quite striking.

RandomMess · 16/05/2020 09:12

@BikeRunSki I think they were introduced in the 50/60s when considered fashionable!!

One secondary school I know of is now changing to black.

AveAtqueVale · 16/05/2020 09:15

@MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht Farnborough Hill? I went to another girls' school near there (with a far less memorable uniform, navy with a bit of tartan) and we used to call them the deckchairs Grin.
They've changed the uniform recentlyish, it's sort of lavender and green now with a lovely tweedy blazer, and the PE kit has bits of hot pink. I think they did it in consultation with the girls.

Teddy1970 · 16/05/2020 09:22

Christs Hospital's uniform design has remained unchanged since the 1500s..

RandomMess · 16/05/2020 09:24

@Teddy1970 although the girls have a summer uniform that is much newer.

Lifeaback · 16/05/2020 09:32

Don’t want to say the name as it’s a small London prep so its outing... but my daughters school! They have straw boaters in summer, red checked dresses and cardigans. In winter they have the sweetest grey pinafores with red checked shirts underneath, matching red hates and scarves and grey wool coats. The first time my eldest DD put her uniform on she looked like she was straight out of the film Madeline. My high school uniform had a bright red and green kilt which I hated at the time but when I see girls wearing them now it brings back so many memories.

I lived in Aus for a few years and loved the uniforms over there, the collared summer dresses are so sweet.

@BikeRunSki I worked near Glendower prep a few years ago, the purple uniforms are adorable!! Especially the berets.

TheWashingMachine · 16/05/2020 09:33

Brown uniforms rarely require washing...

LolaSmiles · 16/05/2020 09:35

I'm so glad someone else said Home and Away dresses.

CoraPirbright · 16/05/2020 09:38

Nr us is a school where the girls in the lower school have the fairly bog standard kilt and v-neck combo but the girls in the 6th form have these amazing, long (and I mean long, like to the floor) black skirts and really tailored little black jackets on top. The tailoring is amazing and they all look incredible!

EmeraldShamrock · 16/05/2020 09:45

I'd hate to be put in the home and away dresses, awful little pieces of material.
I wore the same as my DC. Navy jumper, blue shirt, Navy and blue chequered kilt skirt, these days most of the girls were the navy trousers the same as the boys. I prefer a mixed school.

Whathappenedtothelego · 16/05/2020 10:14

I prefer no uniform, so if I was designing one, I would just have uniform t shirts and jumpers, and everything else whatever you want.

I particularly dislike the standard teflon polyester trousers and pleated skirt combined with polo shirts and sweatshirts - formal from the waist down, casual from the waist up, it just doesn't go.
So if I was designing a "smart" uniform I would have smart shirts, knitted jumpers, maybe corduroy trousers/skirts - have seen some private schools with this and think it looks sweet. Coloured or chequered shirts are easier to keep looking smart.

Fluffybutter · 16/05/2020 10:35

Uniforms are great ,if you don’t understand why then this thread explains it perfectly

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/05/2020 10:43

Red Maids'School has a rather unique uniform.

To ask you about the nicest school uniforms you’ve seen??
MrsMoastyToasty · 16/05/2020 10:46

So does Queen Elizabeth's Hospital, also in Bristol.

"I always loved the checked dresses they wore in Home & Away."
My School summer uniform comprised a cornflower blue and white dogtooth check summer dress with white collar. I loved it. Worn with Clark's blue sandals, the ones with cut out petal shapes. Blue blazer and straw boater.

Camomila · 16/05/2020 11:04

My secondary school changed colour jumpers every year. Year 9 was the best 'smurf blue'

PenisBeakerDipper · 16/05/2020 11:07

My daughter went to Godstowe Prep school and the uniform was lovely - boater hats in summer and cloaks in winter.

In nursery she had to wear a red jumpsuit though. They all looked like little convicts.

SarahTancredi · 16/05/2020 11:15

God some of these are awful. Are they taking the piss?
