Something to lighten lockdown a bit. I love uniforms, didn’t have them in my country growing up and I think they’re wonderful!

I think Christ’s Hospital probably has the weirdest.

Hill House International and Garden House School have very sweet ones, with GHS being pretty much what I dreamed of when imaging English schools.

There's some school in Surrey/Hants that has a blazer which is stripes of bottle green and mint green. Its certainly memorable.

My nephew had to wear yellow polo shirt with a brown jumper at primary - now that looked bloody awful Grin

softjellycell Harris South Norwood pupils come from miles around - many don't live anywhere near South Norwood. Infact quite a lot of children that live in South Norwood travel to the schools in the Croydon area that have been mentioned up thread like St Philomena's rather than go to Harris.

Not sure if the link will work but I saw this school on a trip I was on with another school - fascinating choice of uniform!

MintyCedric · 15/05/2020 20:14

Glendaruel

Long navy pleated skirts by any chance?

That what my daughter's school wears with a white blouse, navy jumper with red trim and red Baker boy hat.

There's a lot of piss taking about their uniform as it's quite distinctive, especially for a state school, but most of them love it.

PenOrPencil · 15/05/2020 20:14

Coming from a country without school uniforms I do find them peculiar - as if you are dressing up in fancy dress for school, especially at the more ridiculous / posher end of the spectrum.
I very recently saw ankle length tartan skirts for the first time. Initially I thought they were wearing dressing gowns!

FuzzyPuffling · 15/05/2020 20:16

Ooh AdoptedBumpkin we used to play Ockbrook at netball!

AdoptedBumpkin · 15/05/2020 20:23

@FuzzyPuffling, did you win? I have no connection to the school, but I saw some of their pupils on a train and the uniform stuck in my head.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/05/2020 20:26

No idea...it was bout a zillion years ago!

RomaineCalm · 15/05/2020 20:27

One of the private schools close to us has a really lovely pink and navy uniform - the boys have a checked shirt and a navy blazer with pink/navy piping.

In contrast another local private school is black blazer, grey shirt, grey shorts, grey jumper, grey knee length socks - not nice at all and just looks rather sad.

AdoptedBumpkin · 15/05/2020 20:29

@FuzzyPuffling Fair enough! Was yours an independent school?

monkeycats · 15/05/2020 20:31

Faulkner House Prep near me have blue capes and red hats that are like long bobble hats that trail down their backs - a bit like Wee Willie Winkie!

Hill House in Chelsea wear these mustard-coloured thick knit jumpers like something your gran would knit and, I don’t know if its because the kids pull on them and stretch them, but they’re always kind of misshapen and down to their knees. Then they match this with rust-coloured cord knickerbockers and they wear their ties in the style of a cravat, kind of wrapped around their necks. I’m sorry, but I see these kids all the time and I just think, “Why???”

Garden House in Chelsea have lovely turquoise long coats in winter. They look lovely because it suits everyone.

There’s school called Hurlingham in Fulham that have very pale, powder-blue blazers and caps. I always feel sorry for the boys in Year 4:5/6 really.

Ibstock Place in Barnes have the most weird summer dresses for the junior school - it’s like the 80s gone mad, just random splashes of colour as if someone has thrown paint at them.

Those are the main uniforms of “interest” I can think of!

itsgettingweird · 15/05/2020 20:36

Another fan of the home and away dresses!

I like the kilt style skirts in tartan type material. I prefer girls in open blouses and cardigans / v neck sweater as opposed to shirt, tie and blazer.

I like boys in trousers, shirts, tie and v neck sweater.

Cleanerconundrum · 15/05/2020 20:39

@x2boys no not Manchester, my primary uniform was red - including red shoes that were only available in two styles from the school outfitters. We even had red school knickers! It was quite a “cute” uniform with red shoes and white ankle socks.

Secondary school was green and brown, we used to have our heels measured to check they weren’t over 3/4 inch and kneel down to prove our skirt was more than knee length. Hmm

Flupibass · 15/05/2020 20:43

I loved my uniform when I was at school. I can’t believe I didn’t keep it. The blazer was akin to Joseph and his amazing technicolour dream coat. Pale grey background with blue, red , yellow and pink stripes. A lovely summer boater but a hideous winter hat like a flower pot.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/05/2020 20:45

Was yours an independent school?
About three quarters fee payers and a quarter scholarships. We didn't fit in. Not enough horses and skiing.

NewtonPulsifer · 15/05/2020 20:48

I loved the dresses in Home and Away.

My secondary school uniform was brown jumper and skirt/trousers, yellow blouse and brown and yellow striped tie. The PE kit was the same colour and the girls had to buy massive brown pants to wear under our PE skirts. Other schools called us “The Shits”. Grin I quite enjoyed being a Shit!

underneaththeash · 15/05/2020 20:49

DD has a sports top that no matter what you do with it, smells of fish.

Her previous school in pre-prep had a navy beret and a navy blue wool coat that was incredible impractical but very sweet, smart and British.

SlightyJaded · 15/05/2020 20:51

I haven't read the full thread, but this is the summer uniform at DDs old independent school - the prep bit anyway. It's a Liberty print....

To ask you about the nicest school uniforms you’ve seen??
x2boys · 15/05/2020 20:52

It was the short trouser ,s all year @Cleanerconumdromthis that made me question this (as well as the straw hats in summer and felt hats in winter boys wore caps all year round ) was the 80,s clearly my school.wasent the only one then !this was a state school btw

OhTheRoses · 15/05/2020 21:09

Monkeycats how interesting about Hurlingham boys in Years 4, 5, 6. They boys used to leave at 8, has it changed? Was a strange uniform though I'll grant you.

DD did a year at an elite cofe girls scho near there. Very smart black blazers with red stripes. Terrible school though. We moved her to a school with a far worse uniform but far better ethos.

mathanxiety · 15/05/2020 21:10

Marking a spot ..

MarieQueenofScots · 15/05/2020 21:10

Yes we had compulsory shorts for the boys all year round.

Witchend · 15/05/2020 21:19

@MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht
Farnborough Hill
They've changed the uniform recently to plain green blazer and tartan skirt, which actually looks quite nice.
Friend's dc goes there.

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 15/05/2020 21:23

Yes that's it Grin

SpeedofaSloth · 15/05/2020 21:27

@CoRhona so did mine! And I've never met anyone with the same other than those I went to school with.... grin

My secondary uniform was brown skirt and jumper, Trutex Gold shirt, and brown/ yellow striped tie
