FIL gave my 10month old cofffee

I am absolutely raging ! My FIL gave my 10month old black coffee! Luckily I saw it an quickly grabbed DD away. I was very angry at the time so just stormed off with her because had I not I would've been very rude and didn't want to be.

AIBU?? How on earth is it ok to give a baby black coffee.

I have a feeling he has been doing this for a while. As he has said it before like "ooo let's have a sip of coffee Shal we" but I always thought he was joking and wouldn't give it. But after seeing today I think he's been giving it all along!

Is this now going to affect my child? What do I do?? I'm a first time mum so very worried

number one i would not be letting him near her, you need to find out if he's been doing that for sure... Then go from there.

Why would op need to call the gp? By the sounds of it the child has had a sip at the most before op quickly grabbed it.

Child will be fine, it will not damage them.

Oh geez. I would phone your nearest health professional, GP surgery, for a bit of advice on how to mitigate the caffeine. Don't panic though, I doubt a sip would affect her too much.
My own mother and fil both took great delight in offering our babies forbidden food.

WTF? Is FIL OK, as in does he have learning difficulties or MH issues? DO you think he's actually been giving her caffeine all along? Is there any chance it was a joke and you didn't quite see what happened?

I think your son will be fine. There is no need for a doctor or any other health professional, just a stern word with your fil.

What is it with FILs and given babies food they shouldn’t have? My FIL dipped his finger in his pecan treacle tart and thrust it into the mouth of my 3mo DD. I was furious! Told DH to have words to make sure it didn’t happen again.

The coffee itself is not going to affect her at all no need to waste anyones time. If your not happy about it you need to tell him.

He shouldn't have done it but your dd will be completely fine. It's only coffee. She'll put much worse in her mouth in the years to come. Worms and dog poo undoubtedly. Don't worry!

Years ago when dd1 was a baby she loved tea. My mum would give her tea in her bottle. My mum also used to put jam in her dummy.

You need to find out how much she had.
If it was barely a sip as you got her away I would say she'll be ok. But if you want reassurance do call your GP.

I feel your pain my DM would give my 4 month old small amounts of foods to try/food things to suck on (think maybe a tsp) and would go all "ooooh look how he's liking the ice cream he can't get enough/can't get him away from it clearly he's ready for food" well no fucking shit my 4 month old who's EBF is going nuts over basically being fed sugar FFS.

You need to stand firm on this and nip it in the bud.

The fact that he would always say it to me like " ooo DD had a sip of my coffee this morning" I genuinley thought it was a joke because who in their right mind would give a child. But after seeing him do this today I don't think he was joking.

I just need to find out if he has been giving it all along then I can have a go at him ! An he most definitely won't be having DD unsupervised ever again!!!!!!

I know that can cause serious problems if regularly drank by children never mind a 10 month old from minor stomach problems to an irregular heart beat!!.. they're not even supposed to have cow's milk at that age never mind black coffee!! I'd be telling him straight "your not having DC without supervision from now on as you can't be trusted" No..you were definitely within your right as a parent to take your child away from the situation, infact you did a good thing for your child. Great parenting and good on you mum! :D

I’d be concerned too about her mouth being scalded.
