Death by M&S Ready Meals

Well I’ve been isolating at home with my teenagers as myself and my eldest have had Coronavirus. I realised that neither of us would be well enough to cook and the other teenager has mock exams.

As there were no supermarket delivery slots I decided to order some ready meals from M&S thinking it would be quality food and help us recover.

However I was really shocked at the salt sugar and fat content. We can’t possibly eat this. It will make us sick again. It cost a fortune. I realise it was probably a bit stupid of me at the time but I wasn’t well and wasn’t thinking properly. My mouth feels like sandpaper at the very thought of all that salt being poured into it. Am I being unreasonable?

Overheard in Waitrose.

You’re clearly not that ill if this is your main worry at the moment.

Flythedragons · 13/05/2020 20:17

it sounds to me like you’re doing the best you can. At least no one will starve! When you’re better everyone can eat healthily again.

PawPawNoodle · 13/05/2020 20:17

Imagine buying two pies and a lasagne expecting a balanced, low sodium meal.

Crunchymum · 13/05/2020 20:17

Hold up, hold up. M&S deliver???? Shock

ActuallyItsEugene · 13/05/2020 20:18

What an overreaction.

No, people don't eat like that 3 times a day. In what realm is it normal to eat 3 steak pies in one day?
As for fat/salt content.. it's a ready dinner - what did you expect?
Unless the person serving your pie had coronavirus and coughs on you while handing you your plate, I'm unsure as to how it'll make you ill again.

grumpyorange · 13/05/2020 20:18

Do people eat like this 3 times a day?

Urm no- people don't tend to eat 3 m&s pies per day from my knowledge...

HotDogGuy · 13/05/2020 20:19

Just make better food choices. No one forced you to order a pie and lasagne. Which are generally gonna be high in fat and salt 🤷🏻‍♀️

Impatientwino · 13/05/2020 20:19

I'm sure the amount of salt in an M&S pie would be sky high up the list of priorities for the U.K government right now Grin

Kraejka · 13/05/2020 20:19

For heaven's sake - just eat the bloody thing and be done with it. Don't waste it and the money. It is not going to make you sick because it is fatty and salty. What a drama about nothing.
The vast majority of people know that ready-meals from anywhere - even what you might term as a "better class of supermarket" - are full of sugar, salt and fat. Don't buy them if you want to eat healthily.
However, I don't see a problem with them once in a while and especially at times where you might be feeling ill and not up to cooking.

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 20:19

So eat the bloody things Confused. But stop with the nonsense that it will cause a relapse. As to the imagining other people eat nothing but this stuff, what's that about?

StatementKnickers · 13/05/2020 20:19

Salt doesn't cause coronavirus. You'll be fine.

Bananabixfloof · 13/05/2020 20:19

Do people eat like this 3 times a day

Well personally If i eat breakfast its cereal or toast. When very much younger, leftover curry or Chinese. But if fish pie is your thing, you go.

Assuming you ordered online? Every food item on the m and s website has all the same info on the packet. So you could have checked before buying.

Carrie7469 · 13/05/2020 20:20

Oh, just eat it

FliesandPies · 13/05/2020 20:21

Is this a roundabout way of putting the boot into M&S?

Rose789 · 13/05/2020 20:21

God that looks good. Wonder if dh will go to marks and Spencer’s for some ready meals- and Percy pigs instead of boring Tesco tomorrow

BluSky5 · 13/05/2020 20:21

I couldn’t get a supermarket delivery slot so got a Deliveroo delivery

If you're looking to gain a bit this won't hurt as a one off. I bet they're delicious.....

Haffiana · 13/05/2020 20:23

So sad to be scared of food.

MouthBreathingRage · 13/05/2020 20:24

Are yiu a family of slugs?

Honestly, it's a ready meal. What the hell were you expecting, even if its M and S? For a personal chef to come around and prepare a fully fresh and healthy 'ready meal' for you? Perhaps try Harrods next time....

HannaH021 · 13/05/2020 20:24

@BluSky5 Lol i love how ur post intimidated processed food junkies Grin... These labels are horrifying, thats cant be normal, but i dont support wasting food, you should just add a healthy side to it to balance it out. Its not surprising we have obesity problem looking at the comments... Its good that you care for what u eat, keep it up

ferretface · 13/05/2020 20:24

I'd eat that in a heartbeat! Delicious. Served up with a nice heap of veg, lovely comfort food.

Seeingadistance · 13/05/2020 20:26

When the time comes that I have to think about DNR instructions, I think I’ll go for the Death by M&S Ready Meal.

MissConductUS · 13/05/2020 20:26

I think you should send me the pies and I'll do a complete evaluation on them for you.

PurpleDaisies · 13/05/2020 20:27

As long as you don’t eat like that all the time, that sort of meal is absolutely fine.
What a lot of fuss about a pie.

BluebellForest836 · 13/05/2020 20:27

That steak pie is delicious. I buy it a lot.

I never look at the salt content, only the calories Grin
