Death by M&S Ready Meals

Well I’ve been isolating at home with my teenagers as myself and my eldest have had Coronavirus. I realised that neither of us would be well enough to cook and the other teenager has mock exams.

As there were no supermarket delivery slots I decided to order some ready meals from M&S thinking it would be quality food and help us recover.

However I was really shocked at the salt sugar and fat content. We can’t possibly eat this. It will make us sick again. It cost a fortune. I realise it was probably a bit stupid of me at the time but I wasn’t well and wasn’t thinking properly. My mouth feels like sandpaper at the very thought of all that salt being poured into it. Am I being unreasonable?

I was trying to get the calories in as myself and my elder teenager have lost so much weight with Coronavirus and I haven’t had the energy to be scrutinising the food labels.

So you were expecting a high calorie food to be low in fat??
Honestly OP you aren't sounding too bright....

VanGoghsDog · 13/05/2020 20:43

I used to live on M&S ready meals for a month while revising, every year for four years. Still alive.

Rhianna1980 · 13/05/2020 20:44

Their steak pie is very delish!
It’s pre prep food- what do you expect? Nearly all ready made meals are high in salt and fat.

Clymene · 13/05/2020 20:45

If you want to eat healthy food, I suggest that you don't order pies. And if you can find a way to make a healthy low calorie flaky pastry pie, I'm sure the food industry would pay you a handsome sum.

Meanwhile you don't seem to understand nutrition.

EffOrf · 13/05/2020 20:46

Why would you buy a hefty great pie if you want something healthy

Marpan · 13/05/2020 20:47

Just count your macros and you can eat it

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 20:47

You're placing too heavy a burden on ready meals, op...
I thought it would be quality food that would help us recover Pull the other one! Of course you didn't, it's food not medicine.
We can't possibly eat this, it will make us ill again. It's food, not poison Hmm
Are you this over dramatic in other areas of your life? I'm imagining some mega Mavis Riley hand wringing going on in your house,

TinRoofRusty · 13/05/2020 20:48

God I love a good orthorexia thread. It's been ages! Glad to see some normality returning. It's FOOD not arsenic.

chatterbugmegastar · 13/05/2020 20:48

Do people eat like this 3 times a day?

Why would anyone eat a pie 3 times a day?

You're just being goady and judgy on purpose

Adoptthisdogornot · 13/05/2020 20:51

Oh do grow up. The human body is amazing at dealing with stuff we shouldn't really eat. We're very very effective omnivores. It's a meal, it will be delicious, stop being so dramatic.

Caterina99 · 13/05/2020 20:51

Omg I want that pie now. Probably not for breakfast and lunch too though

IntolerableCruelty · 13/05/2020 20:52

You ordered two pies and a lasagne, what did you expect?

Aloethere · 13/05/2020 20:52

It has 2/3 of a teaspoon of salt in the whole thing. I can see why the thought of them 'pouring' less than a teaspoon of salt would make you feel sick. Jesus, the dramatics.

CrystalTipped · 13/05/2020 20:53

So are you going to eat the pie or what? I bet all that salt makes it delicious. Just add plenty of veg and enjoy, it won't hurt you Smile

Thisismytimetoshine · 13/05/2020 20:54

🎼 🎼 Who ate all the pies, who ate all the pies? Looks like op did, looks like op did, she ate all the pies 🎼 🎼
As if op thought eating 🥧 three times daily was a normal thing to do.

TossaCointoYerWitcher · 13/05/2020 20:55

Saturated fat and salt are absolutely key for your body and you would die without them.
Correct.

Eat too much and your body will process it and excrete it, as it should.
Wrong.

Taking salt, as an example, yes you would die if you cut salt out of your diet completely. However, too much will push up your blood pressure. So, ironically, if you suffer from low blood pressure a bit of extra salt can actually be good for you (within reason). But for most people with normal or higher blood pressure, too much is most definitely not a good thing.

It all comes down to that old adage: all things in moderation.

First part: correct.

Ragwort · 13/05/2020 20:55

I’d hate to come round to you for dinner (not that I could at the moment Grin). What do you usually eat, quinoa with steamed veg?

Just eat it .. I am sure your teenagers will enjoy it.

PineappleDanish · 13/05/2020 20:55

We can’t possibly eat this. It will make us sick again.

Dramatic much? It's a steak pie. People don't generally eat them for three meals a day.

PickAChew · 13/05/2020 20:56

That first one is shocking, 133% of daily sat fat

How is it shocking? It's a pie. It's made with pastry and pastry is made with a lot of fat.

Healthyandhappy · 13/05/2020 21:01

Order from iceland the slimming world meals very nice x

Kraejka · 13/05/2020 21:01

You're all laughing but the OP hasn't posted in a while.
If she's eaten that thing and died we'll be to blame for telling her to shut up and get it down her.

BeetrootRocks · 13/05/2020 21:02

Maybe she ate all 3 in one go and has died of fear Sad

PrincessHoneysuckle · 13/05/2020 21:05

Its...A..Pie what did you think the calorie content would be?

Nearlyalmost50 · 13/05/2020 21:05

This is hilarious- did you not realise a pie was going to have pastry full of fat?

I love steak pie but I'm not deluded into thinking that eating it would be wholesome and healthy!
