Nothing less sexy...

AIBU in thinking there is nothing less appealing than a fully grown man playing computer/console games?

There are so many threads on Mumsnet moaning about these manchildren and I just can't get the image of a slightly tubby, sweaty, hairy man sitting in the dark, surrounded by crisp packets, hunched over a screen swearing at whoever is on the other end....yuck, right?

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2020 13:06

Oh there is. A man putting on a likkle babywaby voice

Unless he's talking to an animal :).

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/05/2020 13:41

YetAnotherSpartacus yes agree it is then allowed Smile

DeeCeeCherry · 13/05/2020 14:58

I never see threads about women who are unsexy or compulsive gamers. Gaming is accepted as a 'man thing' OP, sweaty n hairy or not (although looking at these YABU as most women have Adonis level DH's so that's a good perk)

BadLad · 13/05/2020 15:37

If playing games and people who play games aren't for you, then fine. But considering how big the industry is now, it takes unbelievable stupidity to think that all games are aimed at children and none of them are targeting the adult market.

GTA V is just about the most commercially successful entertainment product ever.

Yeahnahmum · 13/05/2020 15:42

Grown man who play games are so childish and such a turn off.
Unless it is just for half an hour or so then maaaaaybe. But as a hobby. Nope...

Imagine an adult woman playing with barbie dolls 😂

managedmis · 13/05/2020 15:53

Totally agree

aSofaNearYou · 13/05/2020 16:13

Imagine an adult woman playing with barbie dolls

Or, more accurately, imagine an adult woman playing video games, since they are not and have never been a male specific activity 🙄

When a thread doesn't feature enough outdated stereotypes, why not throw in a bit of everyday sexism, eh?

MarieQueenofScots · 13/05/2020 16:15

Imagine an adult woman playing with barbie dolls

Grown women who perpetuate lazy everyday sexism are so childish and such a turn off.

Sonichu · 13/05/2020 16:18

"Imagine an adult woman playing with barbie dolls 😂"

Imagine outing yourself as an idiot like this 🤣

HonestOpinion10 · 13/05/2020 16:20

I hrtft but an adult playing video games is a turn off for me regardless of what they look like..i know video games are not just for teens but i just find it a turn off massively.

OgoPogo8 · 13/05/2020 16:58

A lot of people just have very narrow ideas of what computer games are, or can be.

Yes, games can be FIFA, or some sort of shooting or racing game, but the medium is almost limitless in its creativity.

Someone mentioned not having seen a hiking game where you just take in the scenery. Well, those exist (both in a realistic and more abstract or artistic forms).

Games can be like an interactive movie, or somewhere between a game and a movie, with well-written characters and plots, again with real or imaginative settings and beautiful animations or art styles.

They can be expanded versions of board games, extremely challenging puzzle games, or games that rely on and encourage your creativity.

There's even a heartbreaking game about the experience of raising a child with terminal cancer.

Having an aversion to games and gamers is akin to an aversion to books and readers, or tv and film and their viewers. The latter two are no more legitimate a medium that the former.

OgoPogo8 · 13/05/2020 17:00

And personally, I'd often rather play a cooperative game with my partner, that encourages communication and teamwork, as opposed to sitting in front of a movie or having my head in a book.

BossAssBitch · 13/05/2020 17:04

Agree with you, OP. I'm so happy my DH doesn't game. He used to, in his early twenties, but he gave it up when, you know, he became an adult.

I've met many gamers and they are generally always as you describe. Lots of posters protesting that their gaming husbands are 'gorgeous and in professional roles'. Sure they are Wink Grin

SpillTheTeaa · 13/05/2020 17:10

My partner rarely plays but when he does he plays in my nice lovely clean living room. If he was surrounded by crisp packets I may have to suffocate him with one 🤷🏻‍♀️

RainbowGlittersandSparkles · 13/05/2020 17:11

Lol 😂 imagine me even a 20 something nanny who does yoga runs and swims playing the Xbox then 😂

MarieQueenofScots · 13/05/2020 17:18

What is odd is the number of people who feel their partner’s hobby has to be a turn on Confused

What happened to letting people relax in the way they way without conditions attached thereto.

Of course anyone not pulling their weight in a relationship due to their hobby is a different situation.

ByzantinePrincess · 13/05/2020 17:19

Why wasn’t he an adult in his early twenties?!

PennyNotSoWise · 13/05/2020 17:28

Yeah, I much prefer me a narrow minded man who sits on internet forums slagging off the entertainment choice of others. So fucking sexy 🙄
FWIW, I'm a gamer, I don't have a penis, I'm nowhere near tubby, not hairy, and I don't eat crisps. Fancy that.

Vanhi · 13/05/2020 17:28

I've met many gamers and they are generally always as you describe. Lots of posters protesting that their gaming husbands are 'gorgeous and in professional roles'. Sure they are wink grin

So if someone says something that disagrees with your world view they must be lying? Erm. Ok then. Not much you can say to someone who just says 'you're lying' if you present them with information contrary to that which they want to believe.

Ninkanink · 13/05/2020 17:46

@Boss

My DH is in the top 10% income bracket, working at a senior level in a very intellectually demanding job, so yes I’d say he’s in a very good, professional job. 🙄 and yes, he’s also attractive, keeps himself in good shape, and likes to make me orgasm. So shoot me.

Again, I’m going to reiterate for those who can’t seem to grasp nuance, that I’m not arguing that a lot of gamers aren’t selfish, entitled, lazy manchildren that fit a certain prevalent stereotype (which I’ve already stated is in many cases a valid stereotype; it exists for a reason!).

I’m saying that it’s by no means accurate, by any stretch, that all or even most men who like to play games in their downtime fit that picture. And I won’t stand for my extremely hardworking, attentive, intelligent, driven and ambitious, absolute gem of a man, being tarred with that brush. It’s grossly unfair and it offends me on his behalf.

If you like you check back through my post history and see whether you think I’m the kind of person to make excuses for deadbeat manchildren, lazy, selfish, entitled men, or fathers who don’t pull their weight in parenting, household and all of the shitwork. Ask yourself if I’d put up with being married to a total waster, and see if you still want to make out that I must be making it up, I couldn’t possibly have found a decent, hardworking, successful man who happens to just like to play a bit of PlayStation with his brothers some evenings or at the weekend.

Again, 🙄

Animum2 · 13/05/2020 17:52

Doesn't bother me, my dh has been playing world of warcraft since it started and why should I stop him doing something he enjoys

OgoPogo8 · 13/05/2020 17:55

I am also a professional who is a gamer (sadly not gorgeous, but not overweight of hairy).

I wish esports were around when I was younger though, would rather be a professional gamer than a professional who is a gamer. Too far past my peak now Grin

MarieQueenofScots · 13/05/2020 17:57

Lots of posters protesting that their gaming husbands are 'gorgeous and in professional roles'

Well the guy I’m fucking makes a quite frankly obscene salary making games for a living so..... Grin

SpillTheTeaa · 13/05/2020 18:10

I am the same as PP poster I don't get why a hobby needs to be a turn on.
What if they are a bird watcher?
'Tell me all about them beautiful tits you saw today, corrr' Hmm

lynsey91 · 13/05/2020 18:31

No, far less sexy than that are tattoos especially on legs YUK
