To ask whether you’d be able to get hold of drugs if you wanted to?

Just that really. I’m against drugs of any kind and wouldn’t have any idea how to get hold of any even if I wanted to. I wouldn’t have a clue who to contact and didn’t think I knew anyone else who’d have such contacts either.

Came up in conversation with DH last night whilst watching a programme about drug trafficking that he knows a number of people in the area who are able to get hold of such things (cocaine, MDMA etc) and even deliver to our door! I’m shocked. DH says that most people have the contacts to get hold of drugs if they really wanted to, which I’m not sure I believe. Am I really this naive?!

Weed would be easy - I'd just go to one of the many local dispensaries.

Anything else and I'd struggle.

Eachpeachtree · 05/05/2020 16:45

I wouldn’t have a clue. A friend of a friend somewhere must know someone in the local network, but I wouldn’t know who to ask.

Morgan12 · 05/05/2020 16:48

Only coke or weed. Weed would maybe take a few hours. Coke would probably be here within 15mins.

LynetteScavo · 05/05/2020 16:48

I live a pretty sheltered life.

But I have teens. I know they know where to get most things.

I know a couple of adult friends who would let me know where I could get cannabis.

A couple of my best friends teens would be very helpful. I believe one of them even delivers to the door when he's not grounded

ellanwood · 05/05/2020 16:51

I have no idea. There's gossip about a local teen growing and selling his own weed, but I can't imagine approaching him out of the blue and asking him for anything. Suppose it's just gossip and he only grows carrots! Grin I'd have to try and bully DC into telling me who the dealers are at their school. They wouldn't say, I'm sure.

Interesting that the overall thrust of this thread pretty much blows one plank of "The War On Drugs" out of the water, since clearly the availability of illegal drugs (that is: easier to get than legal drugs ...) has very little - if any - effect on consumption.

People who are going to use illegal drugs will do so regardless.
People who aren't won't - again regardless.

Not really a great result for countless trillions of pounds spent these past 50 years. We should have had a moon mission instead. Or twice as many Trident submarines.

hellsbellsmelons · 05/05/2020 16:52

I wouldn't know but I certainly have 'friends' who would so I could always ask around if I wanted to!

Millicent10 · 05/05/2020 16:53

Haven’t read the whole thread but remember an episode of Louis Theroux about a drug rehab. A patient was at the rehab but miles away from where she lived, she went to a Tesco local to the rehab and saw someone that looked like he would know how to score. An hour later she was back on drugs, basically if you want it and have the money you can get it.

LadyofTheManners · 05/05/2020 16:54

Yes, pretty easily. Haven't for a very long time but I know it would take a couple of calls to sort most things out, although I bet your average friendly neighborhood dealer is charging extra right now due to Lockdown

I know the majority of the my childless mates still partake, and a couple of my friends with children smoke weed of an evening
Doesn't bother me. It's their life, I don't anymore but the boredom of lockdown has certainly made me wish for something to take the edge off. Just the inevitable comedown mixed with DC's puts me off.

QuizzlyBear · 05/05/2020 16:55

I think I could get most drugs delivered within a couple of phone calls. I think most people 'know someone' whether they've ever used drugs or not...

Cheeeeislifenow · 05/05/2020 16:57

Yes with a phone call.

Nat6999 · 05/05/2020 16:59

I wouldn't have a problem, my neighbour deals weed & the estate I live on has that many dealers I would be spoilt for choice.

Lifeaback · 05/05/2020 16:59

I certainly did in my 20s but it’s been so long since I’ve touched anything that I’m sure those sources have long since been incarcerated or met some other sad fate.

DH has previously expressed disgust at a few of his work colleagues who do coke at staff parties and some even at work (high powered city job, predictable) so I’m sure if I wanted to I could access some that way. And I watched a documentary about the ‘dark web’ so if I was tech inclined perhaps I would order that way.

I cant quite imagine getting into a drug dealers car to pick up as a middle aged mother of 4- I would feel so sad for the (probably half my age!) boy and the life choices he had made. That’s not the type of thing you think about as a 20 year old buying drugs when it all seems so cool and dangerous

Iwalkinmyclothing · 05/05/2020 17:13

Thisisworsethananticpated that's, uh, very resourceful of her! I don't think I'm quite that desperate for yeast yet Grin Grin

weegiemum · 05/05/2020 17:32

Not personally, but ds is 18 and I know he knows!

MistyIsland · 05/05/2020 17:40

Yes, could get probably anything I wanted delivered within the next few hours. Easier to get drugs than a Tesco delivery.

I haven’t touched drugs since I was a teen and have zero interest in doing them.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/05/2020 17:46

I had to think about it but yes.

LakieLady · 05/05/2020 17:48

DSS would probably be able to get us anything we wanted, with the possible exception of smack.

He used to grow weed, his mother encouraged it as it meant she got hers for free.

myangelalex · 05/05/2020 18:45

Yes, but I'd never ask. Neither would DH.

Fromthebirdsnest · 05/05/2020 19:24

You are definitely naive in a good way though , my children go to private school , you'd be shocked at what I saw other mum's do in the bathroom on a night out , I can't say that my pre children days wernt perilous to say the least and one of my friends had to go away for the summer (rehab) , but I wouldn't do that sort of thing now , lots of my husband 's freinds smoke weed when available , they are all high up professionals ....

Somanysocks · 05/05/2020 19:28

Unfortunately I could ask my next door neighbour ☹

Kenworthington · 05/05/2020 19:28

Teenage ds would def be able to tell me. I wouldn’t have a clue. Because I haven’t had any desire to take anything since I was a teenager. I would have no idea how to go about it or how much they would cost or anything

aquashiv · 05/05/2020 19:31

My neighbours son sits outside on his bong most nights so I could indeed shout out for a toke.
Anything heavier would need a phone call but yes I could but those days are over.

stakeholderwizz · 05/05/2020 20:49

Would have no idea - used to
Smoke back in uni but wouldn't have a clue now but I wish I did - would love some lockdown weed

corythatwas · 05/05/2020 20:57

I have a 19yo and a 23yo at home, so that would be no problem. Not that I think they actually take anything but they know people. No intention at all of asking them.

The same question was asked of us when we were in Sixth Form. We all answered yes, yet I am pretty sure overall drug use was far, far lower than it was among British teens at the time. But we all knew one girl who almost certainly knew- so that meant, yes any of us could have. We just didn't.
