I’m vehemently anti drugs never so much as tried a cigarette but yes I think you’re naive.
If I did suddenly decide to have a total character change and try them it’d probably take me an hour at most to figure out how. Mainly due to where I live is rife with it!
But even when I’ve lived in “naice” areas I’ve been aware of which people are users and likely to know where/who to get from because sadly it’s everywhere now.
To the point the police don’t even bother dealing with users of cannabis any more, it’s just too widespread it would take all their time and then some.
My brother a police officer despairs of this too. He has no interest either but in terms of his job says the cannabis users tend to be fairly chill and easy to deal with - it’s the Coke heads drive him nuts! Because they can get aggressive and do foul things in trying to avoid arrest or even speaking to police. The IV heroin addicts are the ones make him the saddest as they very rarely recover and he’s got to the point he can roughly estimate when they will end up dead.
“It's not the sort of thing you can drop onto FB, is it? "Asking for recommendations"...” it is where I am - coded - but it happens
I’ve even been approached to sell (I get strong painkillers prescribed which are a controlled drug. Never would and cut that person out of my life)
I’ve lost loved ones to drugs and have no sympathy for dealers, but our current approach (societally speaking) clearly isn’t working.
I don’t think dealers of any level should get away with what they’re doing but I think criminalising users is not working.
Far better imo to have them in proper total abstention rehab for a decent amount of time, no messing about with methadone crap either that’s just exchanging one addiction for another.
Until we accept that putting users in prison is pointless we’ll get nowhere in tackling this.
