Gym wear as outdoor wear?

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:37

My friend just bought gym leggings for wearing round Asda, I am horrified Gym wear is for working out, not wearing out surely?

Yes petty thread but its lockdown and I am bored so ...

YABU activewear is acceptable as every day clothes.

YANBU gym leggings need to stay in the gym only.

YABU to give a shit what other people wear. Choose your own clothes and let them choose theirs.

Carolduckingbaskin · 02/05/2020 14:39

I walk the dog in gym leggings. Not sure why you see it as an issue?

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:40

Oh dear I forgot to put light hearted. We were having a discussion about it Hmm

Did she really buy them specifically to wear around Asda? Does she put them on just for her once per week supermarket shop and wear Prada at home?

Does she wear jeans to Sainsbury's and linen trousers to Waitrose?

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:41

Walking the dog is being Active though, so that is acceptable.

"Gym" leggings are fine to be worn wherever she wants to wear them. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I saw someone.
Some of them are lovely and colourful with nice patterns.

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:41

Yes specifically for Asda, I didn't ask about her other supermarket attire. Maybe I should?

I think people should wear what they like to wander around the shops. Especially at the moment where things are all over the place, if wearing gym leggings means she’s comfy and happy then whatever works.

Carolduckingbaskin · 02/05/2020 14:43

To be fair - I did buy a set of gym wear out of Sainsbury’s back in feb- then popped in there on the way to the gym to do a shop, felt like a bit of a wally decked out in the outfit that was hanging in front of me!

poolsofsunshine · 02/05/2020 14:43

LycraLovingLass you should. Buying an outfit specifically to wear around Asda is suspect. It sounds as though she spends an inordinate amount of time there...

Parker231 · 02/05/2020 14:43

I wear gym leggings most days now Im at home. And yes for going shopping and walking the dog. They’re clothes - don’t see a problem.

Pipandmum · 02/05/2020 14:45

Yes it's a whole fashion trend: athleisure. Many people wear workout gear out and about without ever actually working out. I'd draw the line at sports bra type tops and skin tight leggings - more leggings and t shirts, sweats and hoodies.

Tattoocrazymum · 02/05/2020 14:45

Are we talking plain black gym leggings? Or colourful obvious gym leggings?
I personally wouldn't, but each to their own.
One of my neighbours always wears adidas leggings, nike trainers and big budgie swings in her ears, she looks ridiculously chavy but its not me wearing it so it dont bother me.

oohnicevase · 02/05/2020 14:45

I wear what I want when I want .. I hate being uncomfortable so 🤷‍♀️.. you sound judgey and unkind even if it is light hearted !! 🙄🙄

Pipandmum · 02/05/2020 14:46

Oh and bicycle shorts are a big no no despite what the Kardashians do!

1Morewineplease · 02/05/2020 14:46

I was hoping someone would post that
@OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow

DontTouchTheMoustache · 02/05/2020 14:47

Its lockdown, there are no rules anymore.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 02/05/2020 14:47

@1Morewineplease couldn't believe i got in first 😂

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:49

I just sent her that video she was laughing. She doesn't work out, she literally bought them for Asda.

By the way I freely admit that it is my own hang ups here. I wouldn't feel comfy with my lycra clad ass in public.

I was horrified at the thought of it.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/05/2020 14:51

My gym wear clocks up lots of outdoor milage because I go outdoors to run in it. That's the point of it. So I may as well put it on fresh in the morning then do the run when it suits me rather than wasting time getting changed into another set of clothes, then changing back after my shower.

Nothing wrong with pink rainbow unicorn leggings on a grown woman in the supermarket Grin

DuMondeB · 02/05/2020 14:54

It’s not good to wear shiny Lycra all day - she’ll get BV with that unbreathable gusset 😂

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:54

I literally change into my gym wear, work out then shower and straight back into other clothes.

I am going to live on the edge tomorrow and wear active wear all day.

All my gym wear is bright colours though and matchy so I fear I would look a right wazzock.

Teacher12345 · 02/05/2020 15:04

Acceptable. People walking the streets in sports bras though - particularly seen on children recently, need to get dressed!

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 02/05/2020 15:07

"active wear" is basically my uniform. I need to be comfortable for my work. Yabu to give a shit what anyone else wears. Why do you care? I don't know why people have such a problem with sports clothes, it's weird Confused
