Gym wear as outdoor wear?

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:37

My friend just bought gym leggings for wearing round Asda, I am horrified Gym wear is for working out, not wearing out surely?

Yes petty thread but its lockdown and I am bored so ...

YABU activewear is acceptable as every day clothes.

YANBU gym leggings need to stay in the gym only.

Well you learn something new every day, who knew Asda apparantly has a dress code or you buy clothes specifically to go there..

Are you also the kind of weirdo who thinks that trainers are "only for sport"?

Like my husband.

OhLook · 02/05/2020 16:38

Does she wear pyjamas the rest of the time? And only leave the house to go to Asda? That's the only circumstances I can understand having Asda specific leggings! Grin

OhLook · 02/05/2020 16:39

Sports trainers are definitely just for sports. Or exercise anyway.

Fallsballs · 02/05/2020 16:43

What does your friend wear to Sainsbury’s ?

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 16:44

I think she meant she bought them for knocking about, going shopping, anything that's not work. I don't think she meant literally specifically going to Asda.

I am just assuming here but that would be more normal.

I might after my shower put on nice gym wear, take the dog, do some jobs around the house, do some yoga - am not going to get changed repeatedly when one outfit is perfect for all of those - also perfect for shopping. Pre-lockdown I would take my dog out 3 times a day as well as other pottering around or yoga or pilates so it makes sense to wear kit!

PilatesPeach · 02/05/2020 16:47

With trainers too! I am not wearing shoes with my gear.

I wear gym leggings/running tights all the time. I do exercise too (then wash and change into clean clothes) but I wear them as normal clothing too. They are practical and comfortable, no rubbing, chafing, gaping digging or cutting in.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/05/2020 16:52

I wear mine to Waitrose though, so that’s probably acceptable Wink

Likethebattle · 02/05/2020 16:53

No one ever bothers with blokes wandering around in tracksuits, shorts and jogging bottoms but if a woman dears to wear similar exercise outfits it’s a big deal!

Likethebattle · 02/05/2020 16:53

*dares

Pinkginhelps · 02/05/2020 16:54

It depends on who is wearing it. I could look at this chap all day.

Gym wear as outdoor wear?

My gym wear all comes from Sweaty Betty and it’s not unheard of to be £75+ for leggings and the like. One pair of leggings I have are £95! I’d wear it to weddings if I could!

devildeepbluesea · 02/05/2020 16:56

Love my legsies. I've spent more money at Sturdy by Design over the past few months than ever. I wear them out dog walking, running, but also when I don't fancy jeans.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/05/2020 16:58

I think blokes get a lot of stick for wearing jogging bottoms, @Likethebattle.

turnandfacethenamechange · 02/05/2020 17:00

Omg who the fuck cares. You're easily horrified 😂

Talulahoopla · 02/05/2020 17:00

All I'm wearing is gym clothes right now, whether for exercise or not. I workout 5/6 days a week anyway so I've got loads but they're just so comfy I don't see the point in wearing anything else - it's not like we're going anywhere or seeing anyone worth dressing up for so comfort is king. I actually just did an online Sweaty Betty shop and treated myself to some of their colourful summery clothes solely for the purpose of wearing when out and about through the summer and not for working out (pale/light colours not squat proof and get dirty too easily lifting in the gym). Gym clothes also designed to take a bit more abuse than regular clothes so no brainer for me! Only gripe about people wearing leggings in public is when they pick leggings so thin they're completely see through. Don't need to see any bottoms, thongs or multi coloured pants shining through Confused

Nanalisa60 · 02/05/2020 17:00

Well I just love that video!! Activewear!!

That’s me since lockdown only have two kind of clothing pj’s or activewear!!

On the plus side they don’t need ironing 😀😀😀

They do get comments. There is still a difference between joggers and leggings.

Troels · 02/05/2020 17:03

Wearing it to Asda, better than shopping in pajamas, which I think is gross. They smell like a bed that needs the sheets changing usually, I try not to stand in line behind them.
Makes me laugh when they are in full make up and perfect hair with gym clothes on. You know they haven't exercised and aren't going near the gym.
I refuse to drop in the shop on my way home in gym clothes.

GingerRodgers18 · 02/05/2020 17:03

I find them really uncomfortable to wear all day if they’re proper gym leggings. Also potentially a bit thrush inducing.

PurpleDaisies · 02/05/2020 17:04

I have legs. They look fine in leggings. Why would I limit them to just wearing at the gym (which I can’t even go to now)?

yelyah22 · 02/05/2020 17:06

I'm living in my gym leggings and giant sweatshirts right now. I've even been to work in them in the past (but we have an extremely relaxed workplace!).
