Gym wear as outdoor wear?

LycraLovingLass · 02/05/2020 14:37

My friend just bought gym leggings for wearing round Asda, I am horrified Gym wear is for working out, not wearing out surely?

Yes petty thread but its lockdown and I am bored so ...

YABU activewear is acceptable as every day clothes.

YANBU gym leggings need to stay in the gym only.

I wore shorts twice, not worked 🙂

PhilCornwall1 · 03/05/2020 03:49

Yes specifically for Asda, I didn't ask about her other supermarket attire. Maybe I should?

Yes, because they wouldn't be acceptable attire for Waitrose!!! Grin

From a personal point of view, I love dresses. Gym wear though looks a lot better than PJs.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/05/2020 08:31

What I always wonder is 'aren't they cold, wearing just thin gym clothes when not actually being active'. If I dressed like that I would be freezing cold if not actually running.

It took a while for me to realise that all the people wearing gym clothes in the supermarket were following the athleisure fashion trend, not dropping into the supermarket after the gym.

Talulahoopla · 03/05/2020 09:23

Getting ready to do my weekly Tesco shop. Today I'll be sporting my brand new summery sweaty betty leggings Grin

Taddda · 03/05/2020 10:31

When people talk about 'gym wear' are thinking 80's headbands, luminous leg warmers and outside thongs!?

I spend more on my Gym/Yoga clothes than most of anything else in my wardrobe, mainly because its smart, well made, comfortable and multifunctional!

(I think you'll find Sweaty Betty gear is more than acceptable in Waitrose....obviously they have to check the label, but I've had no problems....)

AnnaNimmity · 03/05/2020 10:41

Only Sweaty Betty or Lululemon for Waitrose, I think Wink

PilatesPeach · 03/05/2020 10:54

I have some lovely gym leggings from places like Tesco & Matalan and wear them to Waitrose - get me Grin

problembottom · 03/05/2020 10:55

I wear my Nike gym leggings a lot at the mo - they’re loads more flattering and opaque than any normal leggings. And I often change into my Sweaty Betty knitted joggers (meant for post yoga) in the evening cause they’re the comfiest thing ever.

What’s the point of anything else at the moment?

PhoneLock · 03/05/2020 10:59

Sweaty Betty knitted joggers

Perhaps I could get my MIL to knit me some joggers.

GreatWesternValkyrie · 03/05/2020 11:02

Seems perfectly reasonable, I’ve just bought a new fur coat for visits to M&S and my tiara is polished, just waiting for a chance to pop to an M&S food hall.

Meanwhile, I’m happy to slum it at Tesco in something less formal..

Gym wear as outdoor wear?

What about Sainsburys (and others) dress code?? There has to be more clarity here....

Do they have a 'dress down days' where I'd get away with slippers and a smock anywhere...!?

I've got a delivery coming tomorrow....what should I be expected to answer the door in....?

So confusing....Confused

roarfeckingroar · 03/05/2020 12:13

I came on to post the active wear video but @OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow beat me. I love that parody. Sums me up in one.

poolsofsunshine · 03/05/2020 12:25

I do wonder thought, why people are uncomfortable in jeans...

Are their jeans too tight? Are my jeans somehow wrong because they aren't uncomfortable?

I've worn jeans all my life and been arrange of different sizes and obviously worn different jeans over the decades, but unlike work wear back in my office worker days they're not clothing I've ever needed to take off at home due to being uncomfortable...

poolsofsunshine · 03/05/2020 12:26

Though not thought, a range not arrange...

LycraLovingLass · 03/05/2020 12:27

Well I am dressed in my active wear for the day. Do I wear my work out trainers with it for full effect or do I wear my casual yet stylish trainers for leaving the house?

EmeraldShamrock · 03/05/2020 12:49

I'd go for the stylish ones complete the look. Maybe a head sweat band.
Sing Active wear when strutting. Enjoy Grin

Dozer · 03/05/2020 14:18

I’ve never found a truly comfortable pair of jeans. Am wearing the correct size, good style for my shape etc.

ofwarren · 03/05/2020 14:20

I've never found a comfortable pair of jeans either. No matter what 'rise' I choose or what style, they still feel uncomfortable. I don't bother any more.

thebearwentoverthebumble · 03/05/2020 14:21

I usually wear black or navy non shiny gym leggings instead of normal leggings as the don't go all baggy and see through.

poolsofsunshine · 03/05/2020 14:23

Jeans are my work wear now. I sometimes wear them for 18 hours doing all sorts of things and still find them comfortable... I always wonder why people say jeans are uncomfortable. I thought they were invented for comfort... Only time they're uncomfortable is if they don't fit or get wet...

EmeraldShamrock · 03/05/2020 15:07

Snap me too on the non comfy jeans, I like soft jeggings with pockets. My DD is the same since a tot about demin and wool I believe it is sensory seeing her reaction.

Parker231 · 03/05/2020 15:13

I have comfy jeans and shorts which I might wear to go to our local wine bar or to friends for a bbq (pre lockdown) but at home, supermarket shopping and going out for a run, I wear gym style legging - Sweaty Betty being my current favourite

DieSchottin93 · 03/05/2020 15:26

My quarantine uniform has consisted entirely of high-waisted gym leggings and a comfy, baggy hoodie and no bra Grin For a start it's more comfortable, and I'm more inclined to exercise if I know I don't have to get changed first 😂😂

Dozer · 03/05/2020 15:28

I find traditional office “smart/casual” workwear (ie not suits/shirts), eg separates, dresses, much comfier than jeans. I do wear jeans, eg for nights out or when want to look smart-ish at the weekend. One of my DC refuses to wear jeans at all as find them uncomfortable.
