Gym wear as outdoor wear?

My friend just bought gym leggings for wearing round Asda, I am horrified Gym wear is for working out, not wearing out surely?

Yes petty thread but its lockdown and I am bored so ...

YABU activewear is acceptable as every day clothes.

YANBU gym leggings need to stay in the gym only.

I thought they were invented for comfort.

I don't think the original jeans had a spray-on option.

roarfeckingroar · 03/05/2020 18:18

@lycra definitely the casual stylish

YABU activewear is acceptable as every day clothes.

This has been acceptable for young people for at least 5 years now. Most people my age (22) reach for (gym) leggings over jeans for casual outings.

I am a total clothes snob and became very judgementaI at the theatre last year when a woman strolled in wearing yoga pants and a hoodie. There's no excuse for that, it's akin to wearing pyjamas in public.

LycraLovingLass · 05/05/2020 12:41

Maybe its because I am not young people. I am 34 so practically middle aged.

Plus I wear crop tops for working out, surely crop top and leggings isn't acceptable for ASDA?

@dayswithaY I'm picturing you in a ball gown clutching at your pearls when you spotted her. Did someone have to whip out the smelling salts?

Maybe she meant “going round Asda” in jest, just making light out of a bad situation? I’ve seen plenty of jokes on twitter about getting dressed up/putting makeup on just to visit Tesco or a petrol station. They’re not necessarily being serious.

Having said that, most people buying new clothes are just wearing them at home/zoom calls, exercise or essential shop trips, under normal circumstances it does seem strange buying clothes with a mere Asda outing in mind - but we’re not in normal times after all. There’s nowhere else she’s going to wear the leggings!

@LycraLovingLass, I’m older than you and wear gym clothes as normal, casual clothes much of the time (as previously posted). It isn’t an age/generational thing. Certainly not if your age is 34! They’re practical, comfortable and easy, plus they are quite a good solution when the weather is sunny but not warm enough for shorts/too hot for autumn/winter trousers.
