That sounds tasty, Bluebell878275, I'll have to give that a try.
@BumTitTit25, some of the supermarkets do them in their world food aisle, costs under £2 for 400g.
@SunshineCake, no, just as they come, straight out of the packet.
Thanks for the suggestions to try potato in some form or another.
I tried a hot mashed potato sandwich today on white bread with butter. It was also pretty good and very comforting (had some left over from dinner, but not enough to make a meal with).
@Laiste, yes, they do still sell Sandwich Spread. I found some last year in one of the big 4 supermarkets, which awakened my love for salad cream too.
@Boredbumhead, try the salmon with salad cream instead of the mayo, as it's already tangy(vinegary), it's good.
My daughter likes jam and ham on white bread with butter.
I love crisp sandwiches, which is where I got the idea from about the crispy onions. A few years back I had a craving for a crisp sandwich, but didn't have crisps in, and just thought I'd try them instead.
I'm going to get fat trying all of these sandwich combinations out though. I don't think there many I won't be tempted to try. I hate marmite, but I might even give that a go, as I'm sure I've got some hiding in the cupboard somewhere and the umami one sounded interesting .
As a child, I loved:
sugar sandwiches with white bread and real butter
Tomato ketchup or salad cream either on buttered toast or white bread with butter
Condensed milk sandwich with white bread and butter.
I still have them occasionally 😊😚
