I've always loved crispy fried onions in a sandwich with butter and soft bread and I also love salad cream in a sandwich, usually with cheese.

I wasn't hungry enough for one of each and couldn't decide between the 2 fillings, so I put both the onions and the salad cream in the one sandwich.

Wow!😲

It was amazing.

I'd think you'd need to eat it as soon as it's made so the crispy onions don't go soft, but it's well worth trying 😋

Share your favourite sandwich filling with me to give me some more inspiration.

Any one else got any weird combinations, and how did you stumble upon it?

Crisps are known as sandwich enhancers in our house....

Bakedpotatoandgin · 25/04/2020 12:26

@thisislovelyme we have something similar to your cheese salad, except it's with equal quantities of mayonnaise and yoghurt, served in a cold white wrap. It's called Open Day Wraps, and it's best if the filling is packed in a box separately for picnics so that the extra liquid drains off and doesn't make the wraps soggy

Blueuggboots · 25/04/2020 12:28

Sausages, fried onions (the crispy ones would work too) and mature cheddar.

Samtsirch · 25/04/2020 12:29

I love German rye bread ( the flat dark brown type) with peanut butter and chopped spring onions and marmite.
Or beef spread, sandwich spread and marmite.
Absolute heaven.

Samtsirch · 25/04/2020 12:31

I discovered them during pregnancy and have been addicted ever since 😆

Blueuggboots · 25/04/2020 12:32

GoldBoo · 25/04/2020 12:33

Peanut butter and salt and vinegar crisp sandwiches are the ultimate sandwich.

BeanieA · 25/04/2020 12:35

Tuna and beetroot with out without mayo. Cannot be beaten.

Piccalino3 · 25/04/2020 12:40

Argh, everyone on this thread must have bought up all the salad cream - Ocado are out of stock Sad

Newbie1999 · 25/04/2020 12:53

I love cheese and fried onion sandwiches.

safariboot · 25/04/2020 13:00

I consider salad cream disgusting, so you got a YABU from me.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 25/04/2020 13:03

My favourite sandwich is,

Thick cut white floury bloomer
Real butter (salted obvs)
Pickled beetroot
Mature cheddar
Crunchy peanut butter
Salt and vinegar crisps

It's the sandwich of gods.

Mumteedum · 25/04/2020 13:06

@mathanxiety toast butter and fish fingers... Wish i had lemon too but its a yes from me! Having one now sat in garden! Grin

JellyfishandShells · 25/04/2020 13:58

My DH’s mother used to make sandwiches the night before for her sons to take to school. Beetroot sandwiches. The resulting soggy pink mush was barely edible but there was no alternative for offered ...........

We were married for 20 years before we discovered that we both really liked simple egg and tomato sandwiches - sandwiches weren’t something we made at home for the adults and it’s not something usually on offer when needing to buy food on a day out etc

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/04/2020 14:02

Beetroot and Marmite! Amazing.Grin

Boredbumhead · 25/04/2020 14:04

I've gone retro. Tinned salmon mashed up with plenty of vinegar and a some mayonnaise mixed in. With slices cucumber and thick buttered bread.

Afternoon tea at my grandmother’s ! - except she cut the bread incredibly thinly, which I have never been able to replicate.

EngagedAgain · 25/04/2020 14:27

I used to cut bread very thin (and evenly) so I expect I still could, but can't be arsed!

Davros · 25/04/2020 14:40

DH's go to sandwich is banana and branston pickle, doesn't care what bread.
I made a tuna sandwich once but, because I had no mayo, I mixed it up with hummus instead. I thought this was inspired, yet I've never done it again.
I love Walkers roast chicken crisps in a thickly buttered fresh crusty roll.
I'm off to add salad cream to the Tesco's order

StraightAndNarrow · 25/04/2020 14:45

I’m way ahead of you, OP. Crispy onion and salad cream sandwiches have been a thing for me since my university dats in the 90s Grin.

I add crispy onions and a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce to cheese on toast, too. Godly.

winwingingin · 25/04/2020 15:43

Tortilla wrap, spicy cheese, cucumber & silverskin onions- you won't regret Wine
