To be jealous of my neighbours' Tesco deliveries?

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 15:23

Alright a bit of me knows I am, but still. They've had 3 in the last 7 days, that I've seen. They are definitely not vulnerable/shielding, the dad is still going to work every day and the mum works in a nursery which is currently closed and is at home with the 3 school aged DC.

I'm NHS, still going to work, and a single parent, I can't shop at NHS-only times because they clash with my work hours, and when I do shop I have to take the DC with me.

Prior to all this I have been a weekly Tesco delivery customer for about 5 years, one of my DC is sensory seeking and a nightmare in shops at the best of times, plus it's just easier all round.

I check every single day for a Tesco delivery slot, I cant get one they're booked up for weeks. I've managed to get a couple of click and collects, and tide us over with dashes to the Spar in the evenings with the DC in tow (and DS desperately trying to remember not to lick/sniff/ touch stuff, its v stressful).

How, how are they doing it? HOW!!? I am so, so jealous and a tiny bit judging when they have 2 adults in the house, and one of them goes out every day, why do they need deliveries and WHY CAN'T I GET ONE Envy Angry

They must have several accounts as you can't book more than one delivery at a time

ClientQ · 24/04/2020 15:28

@CodenameVillanelle my Tesco account lets me, I currently have three booked (but spaced out)

MollyButton · 24/04/2020 15:28

I would say you don't know they are not shielding - you don't have access to their medical records.
To get a Tescos slot you have to try at midnight - all slots had gone by 0:06 last night - even click and collect.
Deliveroo in our area now deliver some groceries from Londis, M and S and Co op.
Click and collect is a great alternative - and Waitrose in my area seems to only release slots about 3 days ahead.

CatFaceCats · 24/04/2020 15:29

Of course you can book more than one - I have one every week for the next month. I’ve always been able to do this (and generally do because I like my shopping at a certain time on a certain day!)

Jammydodger1981 · 24/04/2020 15:30

Yes you can, I had multiple slots booked before lockdown for the Easter holidays and added another one I managed to get for this weekend just gone. I stayed up till midnight to get it, not on the app as the queue was so long all the slots were gone by the time it let me on. Try the website instead.

AmericanAdventure · 24/04/2020 15:32

Ask them? Explain your situation and see if they will add some things for you on to their delivery.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 24/04/2020 15:33

You don’t know their circumstances as others have said.

I’ve been able to get Tesco/Morrison’s orders without any issues. I’ve got them at midnight for Tesco and at various times for Morrisons. The Morrison’s slots are often available for hours.

Rebelwithallthecause · 24/04/2020 15:33

Put next door neighbours have consecutive deliveries from all the different companies.

It’s ridiculous that anyone would need that much shopping.
They are certainly not vulnerable either

AmericanAdventure · 24/04/2020 15:34

Also... Don't go on at midnight... I noticed that new dates were actually released at about 11pm on Asda website. Tesco might be similar.

OldEvilOwl · 24/04/2020 15:34

OP you need to wake up in the night and look then. I looked at 3am and there were quite a few slots (Asda though not Tesco, but have heard they do the same)

Mapril · 24/04/2020 15:34

Out of interest, how do you know they’re not shielding?

papiermaches · 24/04/2020 15:35

Get the Tesco app, check periodically throughout the day. Slots often pop up short notice - that's what we're doing ( we're not NHS and not vulnerable but you don't get the right to delivery slots, sorry) for the 'big' shop and then topping up a local stores as needed.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/04/2020 15:35

Ask if they'll add things on for you. My brother's neighbours have a regular slot and they buy his stuff too (he's disabled) and he transfers them money.

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 15:36

I do know they're not shielding, if they were the dad wouldn't be going to work every day which he definitely is (I hear his stupid loud motorbike, plus his DP told me he's still working cos he changed jobs just before all this so can't get any help).

Click and collect is much better than actually shopping, I know it could be worse but I still look like this Envy!

Getting tired of all this curtain twitching! Our neighbours, who don't like us, have made comments to others about how often we go out or leave the house, or return with shopping or leave in the car.
I haven't bothered to explain that we're getting shopping for people shielding and I've volunteered to help with medicine pick ups/drops offs, groceries and NHS deliveries because i=t's none of their business.
If they bothered to actually speak to us rather than just glare out the window I would happily tell them.

vanillandhoney · 24/04/2020 15:39

@CodenameVillanelle of course you can.

Mapril · 24/04/2020 15:39

I’m shielding but one of our household is still having to go out to work

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 15:39

And ok I could stay up til midnight for a slot but I've got work in the morning.

I know in some areas it's not too bad to get a slot but I've found it next to impossible here, and they live next door so how are they doing it?

OrganTransplant123 · 24/04/2020 15:40

You don’t know their situation, I’m shielding but my neighbours don’t know that!

Daffodil101 · 24/04/2020 15:41

I bumped into somebody a week ago who is retired but under 70 and not shielding. They have erroneously been awarded vulnerable status by Sainsbury’s and given regular delivery slots.

Whereas I’m working and having to go out and queue or get up early on my day off to be there at 7.30 am for NHS hours

lyralalala · 24/04/2020 15:42

One of their children could be on the sheilding list

For Tesco log on at 11.40pm and get in the queue. However, my best luck so far has been just after 2am when the slots that aren't check out reappear

It's also worth checking periodically through the day because cancelled slots appear randomly.

Mamamia456 · 24/04/2020 15:42

OP - Tescos have changed their deliveries now, so that you are only allowed to have one delivery a week now. Should make you feel happier 😊

vanillandhoney · 24/04/2020 15:43

@nothingcomesfromnothing - if one member of the household is shielding, others can still go out to work.

picklemewalnuts · 24/04/2020 15:43

Have you looked for a slot through the browser? Mine suddenly had loads, when none were visible on the app.

Don't rely on the midnight thing, just look at various times throughout the day.

Idancedonday38 · 24/04/2020 15:43

Sainsburys & Waitrose have had home delivery slots for 2 weeks in my area, & Morrisons have click & collect slots every few days.

Ignore Tesco for a bit OP.
