To be jealous of my neighbours' Tesco deliveries?

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 15:23

Alright a bit of me knows I am, but still. They've had 3 in the last 7 days, that I've seen. They are definitely not vulnerable/shielding, the dad is still going to work every day and the mum works in a nursery which is currently closed and is at home with the 3 school aged DC.

I'm NHS, still going to work, and a single parent, I can't shop at NHS-only times because they clash with my work hours, and when I do shop I have to take the DC with me.

Prior to all this I have been a weekly Tesco delivery customer for about 5 years, one of my DC is sensory seeking and a nightmare in shops at the best of times, plus it's just easier all round.

I check every single day for a Tesco delivery slot, I cant get one they're booked up for weeks. I've managed to get a couple of click and collects, and tide us over with dashes to the Spar in the evenings with the DC in tow (and DS desperately trying to remember not to lick/sniff/ touch stuff, its v stressful).

How, how are they doing it? HOW!!? I am so, so jealous and a tiny bit judging when they have 2 adults in the house, and one of them goes out every day, why do they need deliveries and WHY CAN'T I GET ONE Envy Angry

3 in a week is batshit pandemic or not Confused. I know there's an 80 item limit, maybe this is a good argument for lifting it.

ChipotleBlessing · 24/04/2020 16:12

I don’t believe they’ve had three tesco deliveries in one week. It’s not possible, Tesco just won’t do it.

WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne · 24/04/2020 16:12

I guess they could be vulnerable (e.g. one of them recently diagnosed with a disease you wouldn't know about) it still doesn't make sense to have 3 deliveries in a week! Even a large family can easily get by on 80 items for at least a week.

okiedokieme · 24/04/2020 16:12

I've managed to book Tesco slots at 3am (insomniac) even for the same week, I think you can just get lucky

cdtaylornats · 24/04/2020 16:13

I could go to Tesco but as the buses are Sunday service that would mean a bus to the station, a bus to Tesco, queue to get in, wait for the bus back to the station, bus home.

That should take no more than 5 hours, twice a week. There is a limit to what I could carry on the bus, no frozen food of course.

Bubblysqueak · 24/04/2020 16:18

I've just managed to get a slot for tomorrow! Definitely worth looking at random times.

HedgehogHotel · 24/04/2020 16:18

I'm truly appalled at the gall of some people: continuing to get lots of food deliveries when they're clearly taking the piss and not being careful in all other aspects of their lives.

ScarfLadysBag · 24/04/2020 16:19

You can book multiple Tesco slots but now only one each calendar week. So you can have three booked each in a separate week, but not three in the same week.

Also Tesco just changed it recently so delivery pass customers can see a week ahead of everyone else. I was able to have my pick of slots, literally every time slot was available.

But three a week is just silly. No one needs that. One a week is more than adequate for anyone's needs at the moment, unless you're shopping for lots of other people. But if you need three deliveries a week to do that, you should probably just get the delivery sent to their home instead!

InkogKneeToe · 24/04/2020 16:19

I do know they're not shielding, if they were the dad wouldn't be going to work every day which he definitely is (I hear his stupid loud motorbike, plus his DP told me he's still working cos he changed jobs just before all this so can't get any help)

I'm fit. I'm active, I run and cycle. To my neighbours, there's nothing wrong with me at all.

In reality I have what's classified as severe asthma, and heart failure. I'm shielding after having received a letter and multiple texts from the NHS, a telephone call from my GP, a letter from my respiratory consultant and a letter from my local authority. My husband is still working as per government/NHS advice.

sayanara · 24/04/2020 16:21

Maybe try a different supermarket instead of just sticking to Tesco? I've found my slots by going on at different times during the day and after midnight.

If you had a delivery slot you would happily give OP the slot but if you didn't take the slot you couldn't guarantee that OP (or anyone else desperately in need) was going to get it.

I agree with people that say ask the neighbour how she does it or if she can add your shopping to her order. I would happily let someone add to my order if they needed it.

I was doing the queuing to shop at Tesco in person thing and ironically while I was there dodging everyone going the wrong way down the one way system my watch pinged and it was Ocado saying they wanted to offer me two slots as a "loyal customer" (haven't used them for about 3 years prior as they stopped stocking really awesome stuff like Anchor Cheddar and things that made it worth paying a little extra to do a weekly shop with them).

So I snapped up these slots and now have a weekly shop thing going on with them again, like the good old days, because they were proactive in seeking out my business. Tesco, on the other hand are a nightmare in person, and have literally zero slots for delivery or click and collect.

Waitrose are a bunch of headless chickens who when I last went let 3 people in front of me for having NHS lanyards (fine if you are a high risk frontliner but you better not be Dave the furloughed part time carpark attendant who goes round fining nurses) (okay they are likely to be a private contractor but you get my point) and more importantly the stock out on the shelves had about 2 days shelf life if you were lucky. No discounts (fine, but they are telling you to go out as little as possible then all the food lasts about 36 hours).

My point is, when this is all over, might I have got used to my weekly Ocado and remember who was there to make my life easy and fight for my coin? Probably. Vote with your feet. And I don't blame you for being a bit miffed or in awe of how your neighbours got those slots either, they must be shagging the trolley bloke.

Mrsmadevans · 24/04/2020 16:32

Try Iceland they have been brilliant here Smile

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 16:33

Aaaaand I may have just gone into the garden to hang out the washing I put on when I finished work then forgot about cos the DC kept nagging me about sodding Minecraft and found the dad just firing up his stinky barbecue. I may have appeared slightly annoyed cos he offered to put my washing in their tumble dryer! Today is not a good day for me and my neighbours!

Yes, it seems to be at random times slots are available. If you are frequently going out though why not go to an actual shop though? I am finding Morrisons and Asda slots come up at various times, Tesco less so.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 24/04/2020 16:37

I had an Ocado delivery last week, well should have. It never arrived. Ocado claimed to have delivered it. It took 5 days before they admitted it may have gone to the wrong address and refund me.

Likely I had enough money to cover another delivery from Asda. But what if I hadn’t? What if that had been the last of my money after paying bills?

Seashell80 · 24/04/2020 16:38

I'm in Leicestershire and have been using Morrisons, so far having no problems getting slots as plenty available, usually check late afternoon and as of about 15mins ago there were still odd slots available for Monday coming! I have delivery due now and there are no items missing and only one sub, even managed to get SR flour! Alas, no plain ☹️ but generally their availability is very good

DysonFury · 24/04/2020 16:39

YANBU OP they are greedy selfish cunts. Try Iceland. You may well have more luck. Xxx

CrystalTipped · 24/04/2020 16:49

Can you ask them to add things on their orders for you? Play up that you work for the NHS, especially if they are doorstep clappers...

Tumbleweed101 · 24/04/2020 16:50

Try about 5am too. Midnight and 5am I always manage to get a slot. They are only doing one slot per customer per week now but I have a weekly slot til May 18th. I have been doing online shopping for years as it’s a 20 mile round trip to town and I don’t always get time when working.

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/04/2020 16:52

I managed to get a delivery from Iceland for tomorrow but very early in the morning, 6-8am. Im at work tonight, so my eldest is going to be up to collect.

I have waited til after midnight to order from Tesco or Asda. You could always try Morrison's Boxes, they have alsorts of different boxes.

kateandme · 24/04/2020 16:52

no[pe tesco have changed.you are only allowed 1 a week

Hendrixrain · 24/04/2020 16:53

My DM who lives with her DP are both late 40s, perfectly healthy and have a car each. Her DP makes regular trips to the co-op down the end of their road for my DM’s wine and fags. She has weekly Ocado orders because of the pass thing whereas DH and I don’t have cars, I’m 40 weeks pg and can’t get a slot.

In all honesty she should give me her slots, especially when we have a newborn. I’m very bitter about it but it’s just how things are at the moment! Don’t let it get to you too much

JemSynergy · 24/04/2020 16:56

Nadia Sawalha from Loose Women has also had lots of Ocado delivery slots that's she's been flaunting on her social media accounts, how she has managed to get a slot has also left me wondering how she's managed it because I've been trying desperately to get one from a vulnerable shielding relative and have had no luck for weeks.

Connie222 · 24/04/2020 16:58

@Hendrixrain that’s not great really. It would be a no brainier for me if I had a Dd in your position.
