To be jealous of my neighbours' Tesco deliveries?

Alright a bit of me knows I am, but still. They've had 3 in the last 7 days, that I've seen. They are definitely not vulnerable/shielding, the dad is still going to work every day and the mum works in a nursery which is currently closed and is at home with the 3 school aged DC.

I'm NHS, still going to work, and a single parent, I can't shop at NHS-only times because they clash with my work hours, and when I do shop I have to take the DC with me.

Prior to all this I have been a weekly Tesco delivery customer for about 5 years, one of my DC is sensory seeking and a nightmare in shops at the best of times, plus it's just easier all round.

I check every single day for a Tesco delivery slot, I cant get one they're booked up for weeks. I've managed to get a couple of click and collects, and tide us over with dashes to the Spar in the evenings with the DC in tow (and DS desperately trying to remember not to lick/sniff/ touch stuff, its v stressful).

How, how are they doing it? HOW!!? I am so, so jealous and a tiny bit judging when they have 2 adults in the house, and one of them goes out every day, why do they need deliveries and WHY CAN'T I GET ONE Envy Angry

And ok I could stay up til midnight for a slot but I've got work in the morning.

Grin excellent argument

Homemadearmy · 24/04/2020 15:47

Talk to them, ask how they manage to book a weekly slot they may be able to advise you of the best time. Our Tesco seem to randomly release slots a few days in advance at different time of the day.

NoParticularPattern · 24/04/2020 15:47

I feel your pain OP. My neighbours are somehow managing the same. 3 Tesco deliveries plus several deliveries from local places and going out every day twice a day. I know their circumstances- secondary school age children, neither are shielding nor are they helping family members out (and yes I do know this, they are my BIL/SIL and I’ve been friends with her mum for a long time so I do know their situation). Absolutely could go out to a shop but instead chooses to take up several slots a week with Tesco just because she doesn’t want to. Mind you the kids had a sleepover last week so I guess they don’t give a shit!

Daffodil101 · 24/04/2020 15:48

I pay for a delivery pass and I haven’t been able to get a slot at all for weeks

Starksforthewin · 24/04/2020 15:49

Whenever I’ve managed to get a slot (Ocado Smart Pass, not that that makes a shiny bit of difference) I’ve made offers to all my close neighbours (about six houses) for them to add items if they require.
We are doing different things for each other during the lockdown.

I managed to get a Tesco slot about a month ago for delivery last Tuesday. I might as well not have bothered as 50% of the items were not delivered, mainly food for main meals!

Both Tesco and Sainsbury are at least sending regular updates by email. I haven’t heard from Ocado for about five weeks, when they told me I would be in some mythical priority group due to being such a loyal customer. Yeah, right!

Thescrewinthetuna · 24/04/2020 15:49

If you want a slot you can get one, if you’re not prepared to stay up late to get one you really can’t moan about it.

Aeris1 · 24/04/2020 15:51

I have a delivery saver and struggled for a couple of weeks to get a slot when the virus started but now I have one a week again. I did do the stay up at midnight thing and it worked but now there are normally slots around 5 when I get up so I just check every morning.

Watertorture · 24/04/2020 15:53

I've stayed up past midnight for a week and haven't got one at Tesco - managed at Asda last night though (this is c&c I don't want a delivery)

REdReDRE · 24/04/2020 15:54

You're allowed to book more than one but only one per week with Tesco now. I have one every 8 days booked for next three weeks - I stay up until midnight on multiple devices and book on whatever let's me through first. I'm also a delivery pass holder.

SharonasCorona · 24/04/2020 15:56

On the plus side the supermarkets are nice and empty! Never enjoyed shopping so much. Whole aisles to myself. Only downer is lack of fresh fruit.

kittensinspace · 24/04/2020 15:56

Just looked at my Tesco app (I'm in Greater London), there's actually slots for the weekend but no more until 21st May.

79andnotout · 24/04/2020 15:58

For some reason my ocado account seems to have priority access associated with it - I can get straight into the website and next day delivery (I honestly thought it was like that for everyone until a few days ago). There's nothing about me that should be on a priority list, but happily enough I am doing all the shopping for someone with terminal cancer, someone over 70, and someone in late pregnancy, so it's being put to good use. Sometimes the whole story isn't obvious.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 24/04/2020 16:00

IDK how they are getting Tesco, but for Asda, try this: asdaslotfinder.com/#/home

Watertorture · 24/04/2020 16:00

Redredre that's sounds like a good plan! I need a line up of devices Grin I find when I get through that the slots are all gone anyway. Have landed in queue early and late, same difference.
But as I said have got an Asda one now and am lucky to get that.

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 16:02

I know, I know I ABU really. I don't know their circumstances, I guess it's possible one of them could be vulnerable. Not hugely likely given I've lived next door for several years and seen nothing at all to make me think any of them are not fit, well and NT but of course it's possible.

I also know delivery slots get released randomly, but I can't keep checking back constantly cos I'm at work! (Feel like I'm channelling that poster who thought she should have free childcare cos she WORKED). But I do need to be some level of awake at work, which I won't be if I get up in the early hours to check Tescos website.

I'm just a bit fed up, the hospital is busy and I worry about my exposure there, my kids hate keyworker childcare but I have no other options, and I see a family with 2 parents, one able to be at home with the kids when I'm not, and I'm jealous they have something else which makes life a bit easier.

10 am this morning I could have had tesco delivery for Tomorrow Sunday or Monday but as i have 1 coming Tuesday I left them for others.

cdtaylornats · 24/04/2020 16:04

Stay up until about 10 past midnight and you'll get a slot 3 weeks hence.

Log on at 11:45 and go to groceries, you will be told you are in a queue - don't refresh just wait.

Last week at 11:30 there were a few slots from previous days going.

Connie222 · 24/04/2020 16:05

Missing the point but I won’t stay up until midnight, I set an Alarm for 11.45.

I’ve managed to get slots for my elderly dad who lives far away from me a couple of times.

bespokepaininthearse · 24/04/2020 16:06

Yep, I see all the different supermarkets deliveries in on my road, I am yet to secure one single slot this whole lockdown. I don't know how they are all doing it!

WhyCantIthinkOfAgoodOne · 24/04/2020 16:07

I can't see why anyone would need 3 deliveries in a week? I found a click and collect slot by staying up until midnight when they're released and got one for three weeks time just as they were released. I actually then changed to local food suppliers (I live ruraly) and felt bad for having the click and collect so just got 80 items and dropped them straight at the food bank.

Connie222 · 24/04/2020 16:07

Also, Iceland is really good. They release next day slots at about 11am, my mother in law gets on every couple of weeks.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2020 16:09

I haven’t heard from Ocado for about five weeks, when they told me I would be in some mythical priority group due to being such a loyal customer. Yeah, right!

I had the same email (I'm not a smart pass holder) and have got a slot every week with no hassle. No queue at all.

PinkiOcelot · 24/04/2020 16:09

I wish I could get a delivery. I used to get one every week for years, but I’d probably have more chance of getting an audience with the queen than a delivery.
No idea how your neighbour is managing it.

user1471600850 · 24/04/2020 16:10

I really feel for you and wonder why all the rest of you aren't going to the shops? I am also working and still go shopping rather than taking up delivery slots that people like the Op desperately need. I also shop for my vulnerable mother who can't go out. I imagine some of you are in the position where you can't go out but you can't all be. And saying the Op isn't prepared to stay up late to get a slot is her problem when she is working on the front line saving people's lives is ridiculous. If I had a delivery slot and lived near you Op you could gladly have it!!

Mapril · 24/04/2020 16:10

Honestly, you wouldn't always know. I've worked hard to be as fit and active as possible- up to March I was commuting 7 miles a day on foot and running with a club twice a week. But the fact is now I have to shield because if I get the virus I could be severely affected due to very reduced lung function. My neighbours don't know a dicky bird about the workings of my internal organs, why would they?!
