To be jealous of my neighbours' Tesco deliveries?

Alright a bit of me knows I am, but still. They've had 3 in the last 7 days, that I've seen. They are definitely not vulnerable/shielding, the dad is still going to work every day and the mum works in a nursery which is currently closed and is at home with the 3 school aged DC.

I'm NHS, still going to work, and a single parent, I can't shop at NHS-only times because they clash with my work hours, and when I do shop I have to take the DC with me.

Prior to all this I have been a weekly Tesco delivery customer for about 5 years, one of my DC is sensory seeking and a nightmare in shops at the best of times, plus it's just easier all round.

I check every single day for a Tesco delivery slot, I cant get one they're booked up for weeks. I've managed to get a couple of click and collects, and tide us over with dashes to the Spar in the evenings with the DC in tow (and DS desperately trying to remember not to lick/sniff/ touch stuff, its v stressful).

How, how are they doing it? HOW!!? I am so, so jealous and a tiny bit judging when they have 2 adults in the house, and one of them goes out every day, why do they need deliveries and WHY CAN'T I GET ONE Envy Angry

With Tesco.

Look at about 1.20-1.50am where people have forgotten to get slots that they reserved at midnight

Also 8.30am and 4.30pm are ok times

I'm shielding i look well
People in the same house can still go out to work.
You dont know anything about her, You cant really judge.

Asda and Iceland are easier shops to get slots with.
Goodluck

For anyone who is vulnerable you can ring Tesco to be added to their priority bookings:

0800 917 7359

Once they add you (it takes about 24 hours) you need to book the slots via their “priority slots”section. TheSlot will b an eight hour timeframe but they’ll text you on the day to give you a one hour time when they’ll deliver.

You do still need to check periodically as priority slots also go fast, but you will have more of a chance.

PS:anyone who books more than one slot at a time is selfish. These are the people who are preventing others from being able to shop. Even if those slots are a week apart.

OP if you’re not considered vulnerable there are other options: deliveroo are currently delivering from Morrisons in some areas, some M&S simply foods, shell and the co-op. The items are limited but are still an option.

ScarfLadysBag · 24/04/2020 17:40

@WishIWasARunner Are you sure you read the email correctly? They are suspending payments for delivery pass customers and emailed everyone to say that. But I don't think they are emailing people telling them they can't make orders.

MaMaD1990 · 24/04/2020 17:42

That must be frustrating to see! If it were me i would ask how they manage to do it and if tjey could perhaps order you some essentials (but i can be a tad cheeky!). And by the way, THANK YOU!

Tellmetruth4 · 24/04/2020 17:46

I really don’t like posts like this. You’re inviting people to slag off your neighbours when you don’t even have have the facts. They could be buying for others for all you know. Plus if you’re so busy, how comes you have so much time to notice how many deliveries they’re getting? Finally if you’re that desperate, why not try another supermarket delivery service? There’s more than Tesco’s out there.

Tenebrae · 24/04/2020 17:47

I haven't read the full thread but I am sure they would add some groceries for you, if you ask them.

sunflowersandtulips50 · 24/04/2020 17:49

With tesco they were releasing a one day every eve around 1150pm. I have had to sit until midnight, usually 1215 to book a slot. However you can check daily incase the following day has slots, i spotted three available for tomorrow for example.

@reasonwith

We do have a delivery pass, but so does dc! DH is diabetic bit we've never had anything from Tesco to indicate that's why we can see slots further ahead. In any case, dc has an equally serious condition - some people with the same condition are on the extremely at risk list, though Dc hasn't had a flare up for a while, so isn't currently on that list.
As for it being selfish - maybe, but since dh and I are both considered vulnerable, it makes more sense to me to have deliveries and lessen our chance of catching the virus and then being a drain on the nhs. We don't always get a slot every week - often it is ten days or a fortnight. This is a one off occasion, but since we are sharing the deliveries with dc and their family, I really don't see it as selfish.
Are we also selfish because we've managed to arrange deliveries via other shops, for my mum and MIL? Both in their 80's, one with a terminal illness and nobody else who can help out?

flumposie · 24/04/2020 17:51

Regular tesco delivery user for last 12 years plus. Weekly delivery on a Monday. Single parent keyworker and cant drive. I've spent 3 nights this week staying up until Midnight in an attempt to get a tesco slot and managed on Wednesday. Prior to this I got a slot on a Sunday for the next day. Madness.

Glittertwins · 24/04/2020 17:52

Tesco have made a change to their online bookings. If you already have a delivery or click and collect slot in one week, you will not be able to see any free slots to book subsequent ones in the same week. I'm not sure which day is the "first" day of the week but this is in their section on what they are doing.
I eventually found it as I couldn't get a slot at all - didn't think to just change my existing one to the date I did want.

LockedDownNOut · 24/04/2020 17:53

I was absolutely livid to be told by BIL that his friend's upon hearing about 'lockdown', immediately booked16 tesco slots for delivery. She simply adds any new bits and pieces to her basket weekly and gets 2 deliveries a week. I know this woman. She has no underlying conditions nor has anyone one in her household got any conditions and is not a key worker. When BIL asked her why? (bil is in shielded group) she simply said, "We eat a lot of food in our familyGrin" cue giggles.
Unbelievably selfish people.

You’ve just reminded me that I haven’t checked Tesco slots for a while, I’ve just gone on and got one for the 20th May.

TimeForChange123 · 24/04/2020 18:11

What do you think 2 adults are ordering 3 times in one week?

Moomin12345 · 24/04/2020 18:14

Get over yourself.

Iggi999 · 24/04/2020 18:19

The slots available to me for click and collect go up to a week behind what some posters here are talking about, which might explain why I can't get one!

reasonwith · 24/04/2020 18:26

@ILoveAllRainbowsx neither do we nor my brother have one which is interesting, I know the government had a list of vulnerable people which has been sent to supernarkets, maybe that is it?

Cheeryandmerry · 24/04/2020 18:30

We are shielding. You almost certainly wouldn’t know to look at us. You might’ve noticed that DH hasn’t left the house in 4 weeks, you might not. We’ve only just managed to get priority slots sorted this week but have been very lucky to get regular Tesco slots by staying up and checking through the day.

Of our 80 item allowance I’d say we’ve received between 65-70 items. That’s for a family of 5 plus our elderly neighbours who ask us for maybe 10 items a week plus my parents (all vulnerable but not shielding and no hope of deliveries). I’ve tried to get deliveries direct to my parents but no joy. Assuming it comes from a different depot?

Afraid you’ve just got to stick with it, OP.

Kinneddar · 24/04/2020 18:34

I'd say shes exaggerating. You can only book 3 weeks in advance. Shed need to be getting an order most days for that to be the case. You certainly cant book 8 weeks in advance

Redglitter · 24/04/2020 18:36

@WishIWasARunner. You might have misread the email. Tesco are no longer taking payment for the Delivery Pass but if you had one you'll still get free delivery and access to extra slots. You get all the Delivery Pass perks you just dont pay

Jaxhog · 24/04/2020 18:40

I'm amazed by the number of people here getting slots!! I had to grovel to get on the vulnerable list at Sainsburys. Not a chance in Hell of getting onto Tesco's or Waitrose's lists!! I'm not 'extremely' vulnerable according to the Government, but vulnerable enough not to want to go out. I order once a week.

My guess is that shopping slots vary considerably from area to area. It does seem extremely greedy to hog more than one slot a week except in extreme circumstances. Three is excessive.

BunnytheHoneyBee · 24/04/2020 18:43

I don’t believe it in shaming others for an internet shop but there in a week is taking the mick. I think people should be limited to one a week.

I agree with PP who said speak to them, explain how hard you’re finding it to shop and asking them if you could help with yours.

Bibijayne · 24/04/2020 18:44

I got a message saying I'm one of Ocado's best customers (odd phrasing, stuck with me) I've been able to get a few slots. Have managed to buy extra for my parents who are shielding and help my sister (coeliac) by getting her a slot on my account to get gluten-free goods (one of the few retailers who are really good for allergy and dietary needs).

Bibijayne · 24/04/2020 18:45

Ironically, my parents who are on the government list have struggled to get slots as they didn't do online shops before lockdown.
