To be jealous of my neighbours' Tesco deliveries?

Alright a bit of me knows I am, but still. They've had 3 in the last 7 days, that I've seen. They are definitely not vulnerable/shielding, the dad is still going to work every day and the mum works in a nursery which is currently closed and is at home with the 3 school aged DC.

I'm NHS, still going to work, and a single parent, I can't shop at NHS-only times because they clash with my work hours, and when I do shop I have to take the DC with me.

Prior to all this I have been a weekly Tesco delivery customer for about 5 years, one of my DC is sensory seeking and a nightmare in shops at the best of times, plus it's just easier all round.

I check every single day for a Tesco delivery slot, I cant get one they're booked up for weeks. I've managed to get a couple of click and collects, and tide us over with dashes to the Spar in the evenings with the DC in tow (and DS desperately trying to remember not to lick/sniff/ touch stuff, its v stressful).

How, how are they doing it? HOW!!? I am so, so jealous and a tiny bit judging when they have 2 adults in the house, and one of them goes out every day, why do they need deliveries and WHY CAN'T I GET ONE Envy Angry

I had 3 booked in...

1 today, then 1 in 10 days then another 7 days after that.

Not being selfish at all.

We are shielding and not going out
Not even leaving our front door at all !

Mumsy2103 · 25/04/2020 17:31

Do you have a Morrisons? They seem to have more slots than the other supermarkets.

goshalmighty · 25/04/2020 18:04

Well I’m not bloody surprised we can’t get a slot when people are saying they have several slots booked! Ya know what I have shopped Tesco online for about 8 years, and even though I only have a delivery every 7-10 days I don’t and never have felt the need to book up slots in advance thereby stopping others booking a slot! I can’t get a slot now for love nor money, I’m classed as a keyworker as I look after frontline parents children so they can do their jobs. But thrilled that you have four slots booked!

Newmummy1234 · 25/04/2020 18:06

Firstly how can you know they aren’t shielding? I have been told to shield but to the outside world I look completely fine.
Before I got my shielding letter I was up several times in the night to get slots x

ChipotleBlessing · 25/04/2020 18:07

Booking slots in advance as they come up is the only way to book slots now. So if you want a delivery tomorrow and a delivery in four weeks, you have to have two booked in at a time. It’s not other people’s fault you haven’t worked that out.

Schmedz · 25/04/2020 18:09

I have not been able to get a Tesco delivery slot since before lockdown. Site says there are none available for the next three weeks (each and every week!). They have refunded my delivery saver fee for this month probably knowing they couldn’t actually offer any slots. Not sure who is managing to get any - for several years I have booked a once weekly 6am delivery due to work that I can book only a few days in advance. I’m in a vulnerable (but not ‘highly Vulnerable’ group) and thankfully have family members who go to a store (and int they just whinge and whine at me like it’s my fault they have to go!) so I don’t know how others are coping without any deliveries available.

lyralalala · 25/04/2020 18:12

@schmedz Call Tesco. They are willing to put people who are vulnerable, but not highly vulnerable onto the priority list. Especially if you are having trouble getting people to go for you.

Banj0girl · 25/04/2020 18:14

It is not unreasonable to expect every household to keep to one delivery a week. They are taking slots from vulnerable people who really need them. My husband is shielding, I am over 70. We could not get a delivery for weeks even though we got a letter from Sainsbury's saying slots would be released for us on Mondays. I have had to go myself.
Miracle of miracles, we managed to get a slot a week ago and later got one for next Monday but we were not allowed to book ahead. We had to log onto Sainsbury's every day to accomplish this and to take more expensive slots.

DaisyDreaming · 25/04/2020 18:15

I would ask them if they could help. I get slots with another super market so shop for 4 households plus one item for a child with autism in another house

Schmedz · 25/04/2020 18:19

@lyralalala thanks for the information - I will give it a try! Happy with any day/any time - that’s one benefit of self isolating, I guess!

SacredHour · 25/04/2020 18:19

I am normally a regular online shopper, but Asda have asked shoppers to save online deliveries for the vulnerable, so I respect that. I keep checking for slots for my vulnerable parents and Aunty but never see any delivery slots at all. Despite paying every month for deliveries, I am doing click and collect where possible (regular checks on website) and going to local shop. It does irk me a bit when I hear the reversing tones of the delivery vans calling at neighbours. There are lots of shopping deliveries round here from Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s. None of them that I see receiving weekly deliveries are vulnerable or isolating. I do wonder how they do it 🤔

ClaraSais · 25/04/2020 18:24

Lots of people catching on about looking for slot on Tesco’s after midnight. I waited an hour and couldn’t get by which time all slots gone. I think just keep checking and hoping.

Zoejj77 · 25/04/2020 18:24

Families taking home deliveries that are safe and well enough to go out are just selfish

Iggii · 25/04/2020 18:28

I followed a pp's advise and had two devices logged in to Tesco - both went into the queue and the one I'd logged in second made it onto the reserve a slot screen first! I got a c&c for almost three weeks time.

Iggii · 25/04/2020 18:28

advice

Redglitter · 25/04/2020 18:34

I'm not vulnerable in regards to CV but I have other health issues & a problem with my mobility.. I've been online shopping for years. I've managed to get an Asda recurring slot once a week. I've got no qualms about keeping it.

FoxInABox · 25/04/2020 18:37

Use the website not the app, and go on a few mins before midnight and refresh at midnight, that’s how I have got slots.

SacredHour · 25/04/2020 18:39

Too right, you should absolutely keep that. I know my neighbours. None of them have the issues you do. I have a neighbour with invisible health issues who absolutely deserves online deliveries, but she can’t get a slot.

Redglitter · 25/04/2020 18:43

@SacredHour. Thank you Flowers

I do sometimes worry that neighbours might think I should be giving it to someone more in need. They probably see me going to work and assume I'm fit & healthy when I'm far from it.

SouthernComforter · 25/04/2020 18:50

After not being able to even get into the queueing page for Ocado for weeks I logged on last Tuesday and they had loads of slots. I got a delivery on Thursday. So you could try a few different shops or perhaps ask them to get a few of your more heavy/bulky items?

SacredHour · 25/04/2020 19:15

@Redglitter Sorry you feel judged. There is a lot of judging going on, but you know your own situation and shouldn’t worry.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 25/04/2020 19:19

I think your neighbours are selfish fuckers. Surely they know your situation and could offer to get your shopping? Thank goodness I have a wonderful DD who adds my shopping onto her regular Ocado delivery.

StudentMummy20 · 25/04/2020 19:32

@Mapril then you're not shielding.

StoneofDestiny · 25/04/2020 19:47

My neighbours let everybody on our road know they have a delivery booked so others can add on to the order. Might they do this for you?

lyralalala · 25/04/2020 19:47

@Schmedz Yeah they generally seem to give you a day for a priority slot and then call/text you with a time on the day.

The other tip is if you don't get a slot at midnight then, if you can, stay up until 2amish. Anyone who doesn't check out a slot they will become available 2 hours later.
