To be jealous of my neighbours' Tesco deliveries?

nothingcomestonothing · 24/04/2020 15:23

Alright a bit of me knows I am, but still. They've had 3 in the last 7 days, that I've seen. They are definitely not vulnerable/shielding, the dad is still going to work every day and the mum works in a nursery which is currently closed and is at home with the 3 school aged DC.

I'm NHS, still going to work, and a single parent, I can't shop at NHS-only times because they clash with my work hours, and when I do shop I have to take the DC with me.

Prior to all this I have been a weekly Tesco delivery customer for about 5 years, one of my DC is sensory seeking and a nightmare in shops at the best of times, plus it's just easier all round.

I check every single day for a Tesco delivery slot, I cant get one they're booked up for weeks. I've managed to get a couple of click and collects, and tide us over with dashes to the Spar in the evenings with the DC in tow (and DS desperately trying to remember not to lick/sniff/ touch stuff, its v stressful).

How, how are they doing it? HOW!!? I am so, so jealous and a tiny bit judging when they have 2 adults in the house, and one of them goes out every day, why do they need deliveries and WHY CAN'T I GET ONE Envy Angry

Ask them.

I've worked out that the Tesco that delivers to me releases next day slots at 3:30pm every day. That's how I've been getting them

WhatALearningCurve · 25/04/2020 19:53

They might have figured out something similar and that's how they're getting them

Suzypoo10 · 25/04/2020 19:53

Even if people are shielding, they are extremely selfish to get three deliveries a week. I have three underlying health conditions (as well as being overweight and over 60) and am in the vulnerable category, but not critical. I have been checking all the supermarkets several times a day, every day, for the last six weeks and have not been able to get a single slot. Today, at 5.30 this morning, I finally managed to get a slot.

Livelovebehappy · 25/04/2020 20:30

Nobody knows another person’s circumstances, but choose to judge anyway. My ndn had her adult daughter come and stay with her last week. Her other neighbour has basically blanked her when they’re out of the house at the same time as she thinks they are breaking social distancing rules. However, I know the daughter is there due to suffering domestic abuse so she has had to flee her home. I only know as my adult daughter is friends with her daughter so is aware of the situation. People should focus on keeping themselves safe and stop judging others when they don’t know their personal circumstances.

Insanelysilver · 25/04/2020 20:58

Maybe you should ask them how they’re managing it. Say you’re really struggling to get a delivery slot and do they have any advice.
They might offer to let you add your shopping into their delivery.
I’ve been so pleasantly surprised at how much people are prepared to help each other out during this time.

ClaraSais · 25/04/2020 21:56

@StoneofDestiny that’s very kind of your neighbours, bless them :)

masterblaster · 25/04/2020 22:34

If you are in London, try one of the wholesalers that have switched to selling to the customer direct. Eurofrutta boxes have been lifesavers to us. I haven't been to a shop since lockdown started (though I will admit I have been eating some of the no-deal Brexit stockpile).

simiisme · 26/04/2020 01:06

I'm amazed that anybody is managing to get deliveries.
Been a weekly online Sainsbury's shopper for years. Have managed to get 2 deliveries since lockdown, but the first one only had half the stuff I'd ordered, no alternatives offered.
I totally understand, and agree with, vulnerable groups taking priority, but is Sainsbury's worse than the other supermarkets? Or does it vary in different parts of the country?

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/04/2020 02:46

Had 1 Saturday morning at 6am, got another in 3 wks time for 10pm.

ClientQ · 26/04/2020 03:14

@simiisme I'm priority with sainsburys and still can't get a slot with them!

Sh05 · 26/04/2020 05:25

shoppingslot.co.uk/
Try this link op.
I haven't needed to try but it's postcode dependant and finds you a delivery slot from all your local stores

Sh05 · 26/04/2020 05:27

If there's an Asda near you, their delivery slots open up at 10pm. I checked last night at 11:40 and there were about 8 slots ( albeit they were for May 10th)

hallygore · 26/04/2020 07:28

I would be annoyed too. I have stayed up until 2am, got up at the crack of dawn, used the shopping slot thing and checked over and over again and can only get Iceland which is really expensive for the stuff I want to buy. I'm disabled, my husband is visually impaired, my daughter is autistic but none of us is vulnerable enough to get priority access. I'd be thrilled to get a Tesco, Morrisons, sainsburys or asda slot.

The issue with Tesco is they've limited it to 80 items which isn't a lot really so people are going to have to get multiple slots.

ponchek · 26/04/2020 08:21

I think you should ask them how and if they can book you a slot when they do theirs.

Oysterbabe · 26/04/2020 09:07

I randomly looked at about 6:30am the other day and they had loads available. It's pot luck I think.

simiisme · 26/04/2020 12:56

ClientQ Oh no, that's not on. Sainsbury's are definitely not coping as well as the other supermarkets it seems.
Is there any way you can get added to the priority list at any of the other supermarkets? Also, I've heard that some supermarkets are doing boxes of groceries. They're fairly basic and might not be good for you if you have dietary restrictions, but might be worth a look. www.mirror.co.uk/money/supermarket-food-boxes-who-offering-21801436
I hope that you get something sorted.

ClientQ · 26/04/2020 13:34

@simiisme bizarrely after posting that, sainsburys now have slots available from tomorrow ConfusedGrin

ThisGunsForHire · 26/04/2020 14:06

Pre CV we used to have bi-weekly deliveries from Sainsburys but since lockdown haven’t been able to get a delivery or click & collect slot. However, we have managed to get deliveries every week from other supermarkets.
We have a pass with Ocado and they have been pretty good at providing slots. Otherwise, I open all the supermarkets in my browser and check every hour or so (I have severe asthma, so not working at the moment and have the time to do this).
I’ve picked up a couple of random Iceland next day slots (presumably cancellations) by frequent checking.
I’ve picked up Tesco and Morrison’s slots by waiting until they were released around midnight (although I have seen plenty of available slots on both during the day, it’s just down to luck when you look).
I wonder if Ops neighbours haven’t received everything they need in one of their deliveries and have reserved other ‘just in case’ slots? Although I don’t know whether you can get more than one slot per week from an individual supermarket.
Maybe it’s where I live (NW) but over the last couple of weeks I’ve got the impression that lots more slots are becoming available.

lovemelongtime · 26/04/2020 14:21

Have you looked at the many facebook Covid support groups - we have a few where I live and lots of people doing shopping for keyworkers or vulnerable. I know you may not like asking for help but lots of people would be glad to support you.

Imok · 26/04/2020 14:36

I am amazed that so many people know so much about their neighbours health conditions.
If you looked at me and dh, you really wouldn't know that between us we have diabetes, thyroid issues, respiratory issues. You would see that one of us is oversight and one of us had mobility issues stemming from an accident years ago. Equally, you would not see that dc has one of the conditions that require shielding during a flare up. What you will also not see, is that we are sharing our shopping slots - we have half the number of items for dh and I, and dc has half for their family, includes baby. We also try to order bits and pieces for our other dc as well as my mum and MIL who are both elderly. So Two slots in a week, is actually giving four, possibly five households enough to keep going until the next order. Rather than taking extra slots, we are in fact saving three slots a week for other households.

FelicisNox · 26/04/2020 16:11

I feel for you, is there no one who can shop for you?

Personally I think home deliveries should be kept for the elderly/vulnerable/etc. Not for Joe Bloggs because they fancy it.

Yes I will get flamed, no, I don't care.

(In case you haven't noticed, I NEVER come back to read replies 😁)

You're hard Grin

simiisme · 26/04/2020 17:36

Sh05 Thank you! I hadn't heard of this.
And ClientQ Ha ha :D Sod's law. I'm reading this a few hours later, so I expect they'll all be gone again.

notjustamother · 26/04/2020 18:27

My neighbour knocked the other day - we swapped numbers as I have managed to keep getting deliveries somehow (I feel its luck as I'm single mum of 4 so it's taken a huge amount of stress off me) I have agreed to text when I next find a slot so they can get one too - and I've been doing the same to my friends and vice versa also

simiisme · 26/04/2020 18:36

Sh05 I had a look, and they only listed Tesco, Asda, Iceland & Waitrose. Waitrose do not deliver in my area. Iceland had delivery slots available.
ClientQ I checked & Sainsbury's have a slot for Tuesday! So I've done my shop there as I have all my regular stuff saved on a list. Really weird as I've been checking regularly, at all hours of the day & night, and there were no slots visible for 4 weeks in advance. I was getting so fed up with the braggy 'Aren't we doing great?' emails from the CEO of Sainsbury's that I'd blocked them! Perhaps they're finally getting better.
