To genuinely wonder what is going to happen to the US?

Weirdly the story has now disappeared from the BBC since I saw it this morning, but basically. Donald Trump is suggesting UV treatment and injecting disinfectant as a means to kill COVID.

Obviously most know he’s a lunatic, but enough support him to keep him in power, and people will take this advice seriously and will surely inevitably die as a result.

Thing is, there seems no way to stop him. if he gets back into power, which he undoubtedly will, then they have another four years of this, in which case the stability of the country is in serious danger.

But if he doesn’t get in I predict serious unrest and even wonder whether the states could end up in civil war.

Either way it’s not a place I would want to be going right now.

It’s obviously easy to laugh at trump from the sidelines, but people are having to live under this....

Well if his supporters follow his medical advice and keep protesting, there’ll be fewer of them to vote in November.

It’s the sensible people I worry about

workercovid · 24/04/2020 08:31

It's still there.

Coronavirus: Outcry after Trump suggests injecting disinfectant as treatment www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52407177

MakeItRain · 24/04/2020 08:32

It is still on there www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52407177 I read it too this morning and my reaction was Shock
I do think more and more news outlets are clearly condemning what he says. I can't imagine him lasting another four years without his mental health and capacity seriously declining. It is quite shocking to read about the unrest and protests againt the lockdown that are happening there, and really it's difficult to predict how it will play out. Sad

OlafLovesAnna · 24/04/2020 08:35

The story is still on the app - it's mind boggling isn't it?!

Alsohuman · 24/04/2020 08:39

Every time he opens his mouth I become more convinced that he’s seriously ill. I dread to think what he’s going to be like in four years’ time if he’s re-elected. History will see this as a very dark time for the US.

PineappleDanish · 24/04/2020 08:40

Story is still there.

Hippywannabe · 24/04/2020 08:41

Read it during the night in the DM. Surely his mental health cannot be right? He seems to do a lot of excited utterances!

PineappleDanish · 24/04/2020 08:41

whoops

If people are stupid enough to inject themselves with Dettol or drink bleach then they're no great loss to the planet anyway.

HeddaGarbled · 24/04/2020 08:43

To be fair, he wasn’t telling people to do this, just asking the question of the expert, who quickly rebutted it.

Hingeandbracket · 24/04/2020 08:45

"Pointing to his head, Mr Trump went on: "I'm not a doctor. But I'm, like, a person that has a good you-know-what.""

Hingeandbracket · 24/04/2020 08:46

To be fair, he wasn’t telling people to do this, just asking the question of the expert, who quickly rebutted it.

He's supposed to be President not some drunk in a bar making random comments.

scrappydappydoo · 24/04/2020 08:47

It’s one thing to come up with a stupid idea like that in a closed meeting and then be rebutted by experts but it’s a whole other level to do it during a live press conference with millions of people watching some of whom might be in a very bad place place mentally and planting ideas like that in desperate people could be extremely dangerous.

TroysMammy · 24/04/2020 08:48

Didn't the Nazi Josef Mengele inject disinfectant into people? It is worrying that the President of the USA or anyone for that matter could spout such rubbish. I reckon Trump is either very unwell or very thick.

Noodlenosefraggle · 24/04/2020 08:48

Why even ask the question? Trump has rabid and Incredibly stupid fans who will reject what the doctor said because Trump knows better with his apparently superior brain. I suppose if they havent died from Coronovirus as a result of flooding to the beach because of his other proclamations they will be killed off by this one.

isabellerossignol · 24/04/2020 08:49

I reckon Trump is either very unwell or very thick.

I reckon he started off as very thick and now he's both.

Umnoway · 24/04/2020 08:50

He has provided invaluable entertainment throughout the pandemic, I have to say. Would be concerned if he were our leader though, he lacks any real eloquence or basic intelligence. It’s like listening to an old man rambling on in the pub.

Youngatheart00 · 24/04/2020 08:53

Some people have already died after accidentally over dosing on another drug he ‘suggested’ several weeks ago.

bullyingadvice2017 · 24/04/2020 08:53

If it wasn't so sad for the people having to live with him over them. It would be hilarious. He is absolutly insane .

isabellerossignol · 24/04/2020 08:54

If you are old enough to remember Ronald Reagan as president, you'll remember that there was a lot of talk at the time about his mental capacity (and I may be wrong, but I think with hindsight wasn't it thought that he was already in the early stages of Alzheimers?) as he sometimes stumbled over his words.

He was nowhere near as bad as Trump, and yet because Trump has always been a one man band talking utter tripe, mostly about his own elevated sense of ability, somehow this just becomes another 'oh, there he goes again'.

He's the most terrifying man on the planet.

LondonJax · 24/04/2020 08:57

To be fair, he wasn’t telling people to do this, just asking the question of the expert, who quickly rebutted it.

I'm pretty sure Boris, Matt etc also asked questions along the lines of 'could we do this or that'. The difference is they probably asked it in a closed setting, not suddenly let the idea pop into their heads and open their mouths without engaging brain.

I would imagine he's been briefed on bleach, disinfectant, sunlight dispersing this virus on hard surfaces and the cogs have taken time to tick over, as usual, so he's now thinking 'wow, maybe if it works on tins of baked beans, it can work on human beans'...

Scruffyoak · 24/04/2020 08:58

He acts like he has dementia.

bettybattenburg · 24/04/2020 08:58

Well it would certainly reduce deaths from the corona virus but obviously in a completely inappropriate way.

I can't decide if Trump is lacking in intelligence or is ill.

Ylvamoon · 24/04/2020 08:59

" ... I am a person that has a good you know what!" Fake news anyone 🤣🤣🤣.

On a serious note, very scary times, whatever BJ does or doesn't do he is a million times better leader in face of this pandemic.

Stronger76 · 24/04/2020 08:59

What scares me is that his followers/supporters have become so powerful that it seems impossible for anyone to question him and to get him off the pedestal of power. I kind of understand how some might be protesting the social distancing, how even the mayor of Las Vegas wants to get the city back open again (jobs, income etc, she couldn't explain how this could be done safely however) but the president is coming out with such rubbish how on earth can it be legal to allow him to carry on spouting such dangerous nonsense.

There's an article on the BBC mobile app this morning that 15 million American households don't have running water at home after being disconnected (legal for water companies to do this in USA, fortunately not in Europe). How many Americans don't have any - nevermind any more than the very basic - health cover?

Land of the free? I wouldn't want to be there right now
