Weirdly the story has now disappeared from the BBC since I saw it this morning, but basically. Donald Trump is suggesting UV treatment and injecting disinfectant as a means to kill COVID.

Obviously most know he’s a lunatic, but enough support him to keep him in power, and people will take this advice seriously and will surely inevitably die as a result.

Thing is, there seems no way to stop him. if he gets back into power, which he undoubtedly will, then they have another four years of this, in which case the stability of the country is in serious danger.

But if he doesn’t get in I predict serious unrest and even wonder whether the states could end up in civil war.

Either way it’s not a place I would want to be going right now.

It’s obviously easy to laugh at trump from the sidelines, but people are having to live under this....

The sad thing is that people who are desperate, particularly with no medical care and in fear of seeking help, might try some kind of 'miracle cure' Fear and desperation can push people into doing all sorts of odd things

dreamingbohemian · 24/04/2020 10:39

It's not 'political point scoring' to be concerned that the most powerful man in the world is a demented sociopath.

IHaveAMagicBean · 24/04/2020 10:40

I’ve just seen it on the bbc news on tv. Trump saying to inject the body with disinfectant will no doubt end in deaths, but you can’t fix stupid and Darwinism, survival of the fittest.

papiermaches · 24/04/2020 10:41

“I told them, maybe look at spider bites. Spider bites can give you amazing powers. The best powers. Very special, very strong spiders, American spiders. COVID fighting spiders. And then, maybe this all goes away. They said they’re going to test it. Likely a game changer.” Trump for Spiders.

TheRoyallingStones · 24/04/2020 10:43

America is fucking terrifying at the moment

Aside from Trump and the idiots protesting for the right to spread the virus, there’s a video of the mayor of Las Vegas saying she offered the city as a control group (so let’s see what happens if you don’t apply social distancing) and was very disappointed that she was refused because of people who commute in to Las Vegas from surrounding areas. Hmm

BBC has an article today about people in Detroit (mostly women of colour with children) having no water. Because I’m the U.K. it’s illegal for water companies to disconnect you for not paying. In the US it’s totally legal, even in the middle of a pandemic where hygiene is more important than ever. Even where there’s young children and vulnerable people in the household. And Detroit was DEFENDING themselves because other cities are still disconnecting new cases but they’re not.

WhereYouLeftIt · 24/04/2020 10:43

There's a video clip in this Guardian story about his, standing at the podium and saying all this.

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/23/trump-coronavirus-treatment-disinfectant

Like you OP, I find myself watching his performances with my jaw on the floor. And also like you, I fear for the stability of the US, and the impact this will have on the rest of the world.

IrisAtwood · 24/04/2020 10:46

Does anyone remember the couple who died because they swallowed chloroquine phosphate (meant to clean fish tanks) which has a compound found in to hydroxychloroquinine? This followed Trump trumpeting it.

IrisAtwood · 24/04/2020 10:48

@PlanDeRaccordement I think at this point its about the Americans choosing the least worse option.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 24/04/2020 10:49

I can't hear him without thinking of this

CHIRIBAYA · 24/04/2020 10:49

I get your point but it is important to remember that many many Americans no longer have access to rigorous, unpartisan journalism anymore but have become passive consumers of what might come their way via social media (including all the dark ads) or the highly partisan news outlets that dominate the media. Coupled with decades of chronic underinvestment in the education system, one cannot be surprised at the lack of critical, independent thinking among the general populace. There is no easier group of people to control than the ignorant....

AlessandroVasectomi · 24/04/2020 10:49

My son lives in the Mid-West and is immuno-suppressed. He is very worried...to put it mildly

dreamingbohemian · 24/04/2020 10:55

Great list, Plan. Now do Trump.

No one is saying Biden is a great guy. But that list of stuff from decades ago some of which he has since apologized for pales in comparison to what Trump is doing right now.

For example, poll after poll shows that about 90% of black voters would vote for Biden over Trump. And why wouldn't they, Trump is not only an obvious racist but he is actively encouraging racist violence against minority groups. That is far more dangerous than voting for the crime bill 25 years ago.

Honestly, people who cannot see a big difference between these two candidates are likely to be people who do not think Trump is as terrible as he is. This whole argument is being pushed heavily by Bernie supporters, many of whom (again, according to polls) are going to vote for Trump instead.

can we stop labeling it as mentally ill.that offensive to those suffering with mental illness!hes a fucked up small man syndrom needy vile nasty narcissistic creature

vdbfamily · 24/04/2020 10:56

I am no can of Trump but when I read his comments it did make me think that is they could harness whatever it is in the cleaning fluids that kills Covid so quickly, it might be a good thing and it is possible he may have been meaning the same, however, he does have a responsibility not to be giving ambiguous messages to his public, especially ones that could kill them!

Alsohuman · 24/04/2020 10:59

can we stop labeling it as mentally ill.that offensive to those suffering with mental illness!hes a fucked up small man syndrom needy vile nasty narcissistic creature

No we can’t because that’s quite obviously what it is. He’s got all the signs of dementia. Nasty pieces of work suffer mental illness too.

AlternativePerspective · 24/04/2020 11:00

No I don’t really care if he has dementia either. If he does then he needs to be removed from power, otherwise he needs to be held responsible for the things he is saying.

Someone on another thread said recently that if you were his daughter or granddaughter you would be worried about him and want him to get medical help. Actually I would have disowned him decades ago for the horrible person he is and wouldn’t give a shit what happened to him.

It’s not only good people who get dementia, and if you’re not a good person, when it happens to you then people can hardly be blamed for not giving a shit and holding you to your already known personality.

It doesn't look like the scientist with him said much in response? Why no gentle so you don't get sacked but clear message saying no that won't work

dreamingbohemian · 24/04/2020 11:03

Also, for people wondering why the Democrats ended up with Biden -- there were plenty of younger and more exciting candidates in the primaries. In the end, they did not get enough votes. It's not that the party itself just picked Biden.

Part of the problem is that the early votes set the tone, and they are held in small and unrepresentative states like Iowa and New Hampshire. I think there would have been a different outcome if states like California and New York voted earlier.

Personally I was a fan of Julian Castro, who had a very progressive and diverse policy platform and seemed deeply competent. The media ignored him for the most part though. I would have been very happy to see Elizabeth Warren get the nod but I suspect too many voters saw her as another Hillary who would never win.

Now we're stuck with Biden, I'm not thrilled about it but he is not a mobbed up racist lunatic, so I'll take it.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 24/04/2020 11:04

This man is terrifying. Giving medical advice to a country full of people when you're not qualified to do so is frightening enough on its own. He did enough throwing the spanner in the works in relation to the situation of poor little Charlie Gard, whose plight he used to make a cheap political point about 'socialised' medicine. I really don't think I've seen many leaders (mass, state-sanctioned murderers excluded) stoop much lower than this.

So now he's advocating injecting a corrosive poison into people. Which will kill them, incidentally. There's a reason bottles of disinfectant carry the warning 'DO NOT DRINK'. And it doesn't take a doctor to work out that much.

What a feckin eejit.

JudyCoolibar · 24/04/2020 11:07

as pp said, he has no way of dealing with this crisis, he is literally incapable of it.

This. His approach to anything or anyone he perceives as an opponent is to make up silly names, accuse them of spreading fake news, threaten to prosecute them. He just can't handle the fact that none of that works with a pandemic virus.

Hingeandbracket · 24/04/2020 11:07

I don’t think he has dementia. I think he’s a sociopath who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
^This.

Also all the people saying he is thick etc - he isn't thick or stupid, he's a truly nasty piece of work.

RantyAnty · 24/04/2020 11:13

It's his idiotic followers who will do it.
Darwin

It does no good to talk to them either. I just try to stay away from dumb people like that as much as I can.

NurseButtercup · 24/04/2020 11:14

I am no can of Trump but when I read his comments it did make me think that is they could harness whatever it is in the cleaning fluids that kills Covid so quickly, it might be a good thing and it is possible he may have been meaning the same,

I'm not a scientist but I'm pretty sure the ingredients of cleaning fluids cannot be diluted or changed to any other form, that can be consumed by humans...

I'm happy if someone can advise me otherwise..

Hingeandbracket · 24/04/2020 11:17

I am no can of Trump but when I read his comments it did make me think that is they could harness whatever it is in the cleaning fluids that kills Covid so quickly,

What is breathtaking is the arrogance of assuming that no-one else had thought of this before him. As if he's some kind of unique ideas person.

Marmite17 · 24/04/2020 11:19

I think he has narcissistic personality disorder and cannot understand/ hates anyone who doesn't see him as "God" Any slight causes a vindictive reaction to wipe that "enemy " out.Everything is about him and his popularity; he has to be in his control, even over the "clever germ"; he responds to criticism/ advice by hunting down an individual who has slighted him or a scapegoat (lose job if lucky; prison if not) or an organisation eg the WHO. the media, down for retribution. His extreme vindictive behaviour has deterred people from disagreeing with him .
But kudos to those who have spoken up eg governor of New York .
A brilliant quote Walter Shaub, the former director of the Office of Government Ethics, added: “It is incomprehensible to me that a moron like this holds the highest office in the land and that there exist people stupid enough to think this is OK. I can’t believe that in 2020 I have to caution anyone listening to the president that injecting disinfectant could kill you.”
The US has to squash Trump and his incitements to riot via His FREE Tweets. Some people relate to fight anything; I'm not happy, nothings my fault. His comment on protests -they like me. Could be some natural selection here but other people are caught in the crossfire.
