AIBU to hate this? You're not BOTH pregnant, only one of you is!

OP posts:
Hunnybears · 22/04/2020 16:02

Agree with you OP. Makes me cringe 😬

Pinkblueberry · 22/04/2020 16:04

I agree it’s cringe.

HandfulofDust · 22/04/2020 16:05

It's kind of a trite phrase but I also hate this overly worrying about the exact wording other people use.

Jupiters · 22/04/2020 16:06

Definitely cringey. Unless there is some way to share the side-effects/labour ect then definitely only one of you is pregnant.

peppermintcapsules · 22/04/2020 16:07

Cringe! Some men have to make everything about themselves and some women just love to enable them.

Quitthat · 22/04/2020 16:07

My husband's family are the worst for this. And it extends to weirder things. Having grown up with that language around him, it's taken me a while to get him out of the habit... it drives me nuts when he talks about our birth plan, us breastfeeding the baby, us not being given enough pain relief after previous c section etc etc... I'm like, dude, did you really feel like YOU needed more pain relief after my major surgery??

Thankfully it's lessening with every passing pregnancy (MY pregnancies, not HIS or OURS!), so there is hope for these sorts...!

ElloElloVera · 22/04/2020 16:07

Makes me a little stabby Angry

TheWordmeister · 22/04/2020 16:09

So very naff! Immediately makes the couple look like complete twits.

Thankfully I have yet to hear it in rl.

EmbarrassedUser · 22/04/2020 16:10

Surely there’s much more to get your knickers in a twist about @shesgrownhorns 🙄 Just let people have their fun if they want and you can scoff all you want.

LochJessMonster · 22/04/2020 16:11

‘We are having a baby’ is better but tbh I’d just be happy for them rather than worrying about semantics

Glitteryone · 22/04/2020 16:12

So cringe!

bananaontoast1 · 22/04/2020 16:12

As far as I was concerned it was our pregnancy - I hardly did it by myself after all.

Much bigger things to worry about :)

artistformerlyknownas · 22/04/2020 16:14

I have caught myself saying this (Shock), but only when I've been telling a story that includes a lot of "we" in it... e.g. "we were planning on going to Timbuktu but then we found out we were pregnant so we pushed it back a year" etc.

Littlebluetruck · 22/04/2020 16:15

It’s just the worst!

I’m pregnant and have hyperemesis. I’d love if “we” could have hyperemesis (so DH could actually understand how bad I feel), but unfortunately it’s only me.

Spiffingly · 22/04/2020 16:17

If your wife got a terminal illness, would these men go about saying "we are dying"? No. So why is pregnancy suddenly a shared experience?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/04/2020 16:28

My reply to "we're pregnant" is " What? Both of you???At the same time. and you a man as well..congratulations"

DadDadDad · 22/04/2020 16:28

I'm going to start telling people I've been pregnant three times (hence my username) and see how they react. Shock

lightnesspixie · 22/04/2020 16:29

YANBU I loathe that daft expression too 😉

RoLaren · 22/04/2020 16:30

I don't mind saying 'We're expecting'. We are both expecting the birth of a child.

DavetheCat2001 · 22/04/2020 16:34

It's simpering and wet

Wishforsnow · 22/04/2020 16:36

Can't stand it and I always assume the woman is in a controlling or abusive relationship. I have no basis for this just what I automatically think.

BeansOnToast4T · 22/04/2020 16:38

I hate it - what's wrong with "we are expecting a baby".

billy1966 · 22/04/2020 16:39

It establishes unquestionably, that a person who utters these works is an utter twat.

Samtsirch · 22/04/2020 16:40

@Spiffingly
Yes 😂
Imagine a man saying , we are premenstrual, or we are having our period, or we are peri menopausal 🤣
They may be both expectant parents but they are definitely not both pregnant.

Esspee · 22/04/2020 16:41

Agree with you 100% OP.
