I made this soup yesterday for lunch, and DH thought it looked 'disgusting' Hmm. It's just lentils, onion, mixed frozen veg. I having it for lunch again, the kids liked dipping bread in it. It tasted really nice Grin

Yes, it does. Most soup does though. It's still nice.

MamaGee09 · 22/04/2020 12:20

Im with your dh on this one, the colour is disgusting. I’m not a fan of soup with chunks in , I prefer a smooth soup all blended if needed.

YinMnBlue · 22/04/2020 12:21

Massive bit of frozen (and therefore mushy) broccoli makes it less appealing.

But spicy lentil soup is dark, and tastes delicious.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/04/2020 12:24

The proof of any pudding (or soup) is in the eating.

Could he not just hold his nose and taste it instead of being so hurtful?

I agree that it doesn't look very inviting, but if he tried it I'm sure he'd be surprised.

sunshineandlollypops · 22/04/2020 12:24

Like someone wrote, blitz it. Doesn't look appetising, but hopefully tastes ok.

BrokenNails · 22/04/2020 12:25

I would eat it definitely! Although I think it's the mixture of large floating veg in a thin soup that makes it look slightly less attractive. If it was all blended to the same consistency and had a swirl of creme fraiche and a scattering of pine nuts and black pepper on top, it'd look all posh Grin

BeansOnToast4T · 22/04/2020 12:25

I make a lot of od soup and this doesn't look very appealing - I think it's the large lumps of veg!

Rebelwithallthecause · 22/04/2020 12:25

No soup really looks that pleasing to the eye.
It’s a fine looking soup as soups go

TwentyViginti · 22/04/2020 12:26

Looks like the contents of a blocked drain.

Bananabixfloof · 22/04/2020 12:26

Honestly, does any soup look appealing ever. Mushroom looks like grey bilge, tomatoe just pinky red, butternut orange mess, carrot and coriander just a orangey colour slush with green bits.

Ninkanink · 22/04/2020 12:28

His loss isn’t it...

Soups are all about the ingredients and delicious flavours, not necessarily about how they look.

JohnFinlaysNewTeeth · 22/04/2020 12:28

A lot of food looks disgusting. It’s not childish to say this. If he had have said “eewww I’m not eating that it looks like poo poo” it would have been childish.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 22/04/2020 12:30

It looks like dog diarrhoea

JoysOfString · 22/04/2020 12:31

You should try sopa negra - ugliest soup ever, which I had in Costa Rica. Black with whatever you have lying around floating in it. Actually tastes OK (it's made of black beans) but so unappealing. We called it Scary Soup.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 22/04/2020 12:32

That looks like some sort of Halloween horror String . . .

NaviSprite · 22/04/2020 12:32

All soups home made can look a bit iffy in my experience, so I always try to add some elmlea double ‘cream’ to entice my DC into trying it. Bit immature of him not to try it though - I’ve had a fair few foods that taste lovely but look a bit less than appealing! As I say to my twin 2.5 yo’s, you don’t know if the food is tasty or not until you try it! It sometimes convinces them Grin

burnoutbabe · 22/04/2020 12:34

I'd not be at all fussed if i was told "well you can't eat it then" if i throught it looked disgusting (i'd probably just say "ah no, i'll have toast" and leave you to eat it)

it does look just like random left over veg with broth over it. not appealing to me at all.

ILookLikeAMonster · 22/04/2020 12:35

Looks like dirty dish water from the sink with bits of old veg floating in it, I wouldnt eat it, sorryGrin

SheeshazAZ09 · 22/04/2020 12:36

A lot of our veggie meals look a bit like this (green or brown or somewhere in between), it's just what you get used to. A lot of junk and restaurant food is designed to look good but often falls short on flavour and nutrition. Let your DH prepare his own food if he doesn't like yours.

Dahlietta · 22/04/2020 12:37

Lordy, that looks like something out of Horrible Histories.

😂😂. It absolutely does!

kittykarate · 22/04/2020 12:37

Soups always look a bit weird, especially if they are 'tidy out the veg drawer' soups.

I made a brocolli and cheese soup last week with purple sprouting brocolli. Now THAT was funny looking soup.

BalanchineBallet · 22/04/2020 12:38

Nope, that’s not doing it for me either. Why would you not blend it? At least the kids would then actually get some of the veg when they dipped their bread.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 22/04/2020 12:42

What soups are you all making that they never look appealing 😱😂
I think the problem here is because it's part run through blender and part whole overcooked veg.
If it's all run through blender it can look ok. Or no blender at all but having broth with not overcooked! veg. The middle way just takes the worst of both worldsGrin

Glowcat · 22/04/2020 12:44

Soups like that look better blended. You can choose how smooth to blend them. Then chuck some fresh-frozen herbs In at the end, stir and sprinkle with cheese. Mmmmm.

nonetcurtains · 22/04/2020 12:45

It looks a bit unappetising to me, sorry.

A friend once made a big pan of mushroom soup and set it on the side to cool before freezing.

Her husband came across it a while later and promptly poured it down the sink and washed the pot. He thought it was just a dirty pan put to soak!
