I made this soup yesterday for lunch, and DH thought it looked 'disgusting' Hmm. It's just lentils, onion, mixed frozen veg. I having it for lunch again, the kids liked dipping bread in it. It tasted really nice Grin

Soup - especially homemade - rarely looks appealing. I think when it has chunks of veg in, it's a bit too close to vomit (sorry)

ShirleyPhallus · 22/04/2020 11:36

That looks hideous, sorry OP

onanothertrain · 22/04/2020 11:36

He's right. It does look disgusting and while it might taste lovely the look would put me off. I don't think he's childish to say so.

k1233 · 22/04/2020 11:36

Don't do "lumpy" soup, so agree with your DH. Soft mushy vegetables are even worse!

BaronessBomburst · 22/04/2020 11:37

I get around this by adding tumeric, red paprika, or tomato puree, just to improve the colour.

DH is still a tit though.

Goingtobeoldearly · 22/04/2020 11:37

It's not what it looks like...it's what it tastes like! That's what I tell the kids

vanillandhoney · 22/04/2020 11:37

Well, he's right - it doesn't look very appealing. It's an unpleasant colour and that's a huge piece of broccoli!

But that has nothing to do with how it tastes., though.

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 22/04/2020 11:38

Soup generally doesn't look that appetising (to me) unless it's blended. After all, it's just bits of veg floating around in an often oddly coloured and slightly lumpy liquid - there's a reason they use vegetable soup on films to replicate vomit! It doesn't mean it's not bloody delicious.

Mushy veg though? That's a travesty!

englishrosie · 22/04/2020 11:38

I have to say it doesn't exactly look mouth watering.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 22/04/2020 11:38

And he’d be right. 🤣🤣🤣

Mrsjayy · 22/04/2020 11:38

It looks fine i dont understand the random brocolli I would drop that or burn my mouth trying to eat it Confused

20viona · 22/04/2020 11:39

Sorry it looks awful to me but the taste is what's important!

inwood · 22/04/2020 11:41

I'm with your DH, it looks like left over veg that you've poured some stock on top of, which admittedly soup often is but I would have blitzed it up.

AngusThermopyle · 22/04/2020 11:43

Sorry but that does not look appetising to me personally. I've seen a lot of bad food photos recently though and people saying they look nice/yummy, so obviously everyone's tastes vary wildly and also it could just be a badly lit pic etc.

PenfoldsFive · 22/04/2020 11:43

Lordy, that looks like something out of Horrible Histories.

Duckingell · 22/04/2020 11:44

I'd have blended it.

I am sure it tastes good though regardless.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/04/2020 11:45

It's just the colour, like a muddy puddle! 😜

lovinglavidaloca · 22/04/2020 11:46

It looks a bit like vomit Grin

Notso · 22/04/2020 11:46

It doesn't look appealing at all, but I find most soups don't.
Mushy broccoli sounds unpleasant too though.

CassandraCross · 22/04/2020 11:47

Sorry, OP, with your dh on this one it looks like a muddy puddle with vegetation in it.

JaneJeffer · 22/04/2020 11:47

This reminds me of when SIL posted that she had made a delicious homemade vegetable soup and DS who was visiting at the time came home and told me about the horrible looking soup his aunt had made Grin

Thisismytimetoshine · 22/04/2020 11:53

Soup always looks disgusting. Doesn't affect the taste one iota.

cacaca · 22/04/2020 11:54

Soup should not have chunks of broccoli that big.

Puddlejuice · 22/04/2020 11:55

Why wouldn't you blend it at least so its uniform?

ZaraW · 22/04/2020 11:55

Soup always looks disgusting

No it doesn't.
