I made this soup yesterday for lunch, and DH thought it looked 'disgusting' Hmm. It's just lentils, onion, mixed frozen veg. I having it for lunch again, the kids liked dipping bread in it. It tasted really nice Grin

DH thinks this soup looks disgusting

Add some powdered skimmed milk to give it a more acceptable colour .

LEELULUMPKIN · 22/04/2020 11:55

I eat with my eyes so it's a no from me, sorry.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/04/2020 11:56

I don’t think home cooking photos on a crap camera phone ever look good

There’s a meme that says “do you ever see photos of other people’s roast dinners and just think ‘thank fuck I’m not part of that family’”

Also Martha Stewart is terrible at taking photos and making food look absolutely disgusting

BunnytheHoneyBee · 22/04/2020 11:56

OP I just showed DH your post because we had an almost identical exchange yesterday. I made a soup with fresh veg, loved it, he refuses to eat and says it smells and looks disgusting.

We both thought it funny that you made a similar soup and had a similar reaction to it.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 22/04/2020 11:57

This is why I do only broth with stuff in it. Not blended 🙈

RingaRosie · 22/04/2020 11:58

I’d have a go at it, but I know DH wouldn’t touch it. Mushy veg, though...

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 22/04/2020 11:58

It looks like the dregs of a roast dinner, when the gravy has gone all watery and there's an over cooked lump of broccoli falling into little bits. So I agree, it looks disgusting, but if you like it why are you bothered? He didn't say it tastes disgusting!

emmylousings · 22/04/2020 11:59

I wouldn't put fozen veg in a soup, but soup is great so if you like it good for you. Many of my soups (carott, red lentil) look like baby sick, and I call them 'Baby Sick soup' (bit wierd, I know) taste great though, filling and cheap.

Mucklowe · 22/04/2020 11:59

It looks a bit murky, but most soups do, to be fair. I'd eat it!

YgritteSnow · 22/04/2020 11:59

I couldn't eat it. Sorry.

JellyfishandShells · 22/04/2020 12:00

Colour looks fine - I often do a part blended soup with some vegetable pieces left whole, but broccoli doesn’t really lend itself to that in such a large piece, especially if mushy

Your DH was rude calling it disgusting, though.

PenfoldsFive · 22/04/2020 12:01

Soup is divisive generally, I think. For me, most of it looks like swamp. Same with stuff like dhal, it tastes like soil to me. I don't like the sensation of eating a bowl of warm liquid, give me food with texture any day!

Shoppingwithmother · 22/04/2020 12:02

I’m sorry, but that does look revolting- the lumps of mushy veg, especially the broccoli, and the crinkle cut lump of carrot. The colour doesn’t help either. I love soup, but I would not eat that.

nakedavengerreturns · 22/04/2020 12:02

I think it looks amazing! Soup is my favourite dinner. Although I love a chunky soup that bit of broccoli is too big.

Soup is just a carrier for cheese in my opinion though. Quarter block of grated cheddar and thats perfect

AlviesMam · 22/04/2020 12:02

I'd blend all my veg. Wouldn't leave lumps of whole veg in. Blending everything looks more appetising

CountFosco · 22/04/2020 12:03

And this is why my Mum always blended soup when we were growing up. Lentil soup is my favourite. Yum.

anonymum95 · 22/04/2020 12:04

It does look disgustingHmm sure it tastes great though..

Lefkosia · 22/04/2020 12:06

Nope your DH is right. Sorry OP but that looks grim.

Saucery · 22/04/2020 12:07

The broccoli is bringing it down a bit, for me. It can be very slushy and I only put it in broccoli and Stilton soup. The base colour and texture otherwise looks fine!

AmelieTaylor · 22/04/2020 12:08

He's a childish twat, though appears he's not alone. 🙄

It's vegetable soup - it's supposed to taste good not be a fecking work of art!

What's his contribution to meals like?

TheVanguardSix · 22/04/2020 12:11

I didn't know soup was meant to be a looker.
If he wants sexy soup, make a Borscht. Now that's a good looking soup.

StripeyLurcher · 22/04/2020 12:13

There is something of a murky pool about it. I'm just surprised your dc are less fussy than your dh.

Quarantimespringclean · 22/04/2020 12:16

On the whole, vegetarian food can look a bit brown/beige/blah. That’s why when they photo it on tv and cookery books it’s always pimped up with bright green sprinkles of coriander/parsley /chives and serve it alongside nice bright salads and green veg. I had a DELICIOUS spicy yellow split pea casserole yesterday. It tasted amazing but if I’m strictly honest it did look like a bowl of sick. Not just veggie food either - a lot of one pot stews and mince dishes can look a bit meh.

I agree that soups generally look more appetising (and have a nicer texture) if you whizz them up with a stick blender.

Candyfloss99 · 22/04/2020 12:16

Looks and sounds disgusting yes. Big bits of mushy veg...

muckycat · 22/04/2020 12:20

Soup isn't really a pretty dish (a sexy scarlet Boscht notwithstanding, I am fully with theVanguardSix there).

I think it's generally understood that it can taste delicious whilst not being savoury eye candy so I think Dh was being necessarily rude. I would have blitzed it, personally but if you prefer the bigger bits in then I'm sure it was great!
