I made this soup yesterday for lunch, and DH thought it looked 'disgusting' Hmm. It's just lentils, onion, mixed frozen veg. I having it for lunch again, the kids liked dipping bread in it. It tasted really nice Grin

I’d add stock and rice or potatoes.

I think it looks yummy but that’s because I often make my soup this way, with bones 😅

managedmis · 22/04/2020 13:41

Awful

The broccoli is that pale, lacklustre sludge colour

Sorry op

CottonSock · 22/04/2020 13:41

Doesn't look great sorry

Jux · 22/04/2020 13:43

I don't like soup at the best of times.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/04/2020 13:44

Saying any food is “disgusting” is the height of rudeness, especially to the person who prepared it. No food is disgusting. Food may be not your taste, but it is never disgusting. Be thankful you have food.

Could not agree more! I love soup. I am Scottish and was brought up on my mum's lentil soup made with a ham hock, her Scotch broth made with a bit of boiling beef, both absolutely delicious, alternating with Campbell's condensed soups Hmm or Knorr packet soups Hmm Hmm.

My husband likes soup too, fortunately, but is a lot fussier about the texture than I am. I like broth, ie thin liquid with bits in it, but he doesn't. However, he will happily eat exactly the same soup if I take a few ladlefuls out and blend them, then stir them back through, so that there is a thicker smooth liquid with bits of veg, barley, lentils and so on suspended in it. Maybe that would help the OP's husband get to grips with soup (as it were).

SharonasCorona · 22/04/2020 13:45

It's one of the soups that I would eat if I cooked it or my mum cooked it, but not if my husband or stranger made it.

browzingss · 22/04/2020 13:46

Surely you’re aware that it doesn’t look appetising though. It’s just a matter of fact that presentation wasn’t a concern for you, so his comment, although mean, wasn’t wrong

I agree, and also people who use the word 'stinks' for every food smell. So even the smell of fresh fruit 'stinks' to them. That's just offensive. Boiled eggs once cooled? Yes. Fresh fruit? NO.

justasking111 · 22/04/2020 13:47

Oh its fine, we are brainwashed by the stuff in tins, trust me home made cream of chicken/tomato soup looks nothing like Heinz.

DickKerrLadies · 22/04/2020 13:49

"So do you, but luckily looks aren't everything"

Too harsh, maybe?

Binginfjn · 22/04/2020 13:51

I agree with your DH but he was very rude to actually say it to your face! There are nicer ways to say it

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 22/04/2020 13:53

I have made some pretty disgusting creations myself, so yeah. There can be disgusting foodBlush

ThePlantsitter · 22/04/2020 14:00

It does look a bit like pondwater.. But probably tastes delicious! His loss eh.

NoSauce · 22/04/2020 14:08

Looks like a blocked toilet 🤢

EngagedAgain · 22/04/2020 14:10

Is he usually fussy? Would think a partner etc would be used to their type of cooking and be a bit forgiving if something turns out a bit wrong. Having said that I don't see anything wrong with it. Soup is soup, unless it's a smooth one there are bits in it, and various colours.

DjMomo · 22/04/2020 14:10

Looks too murky probably with hungry great whites lurking beneath the surface.

Silentplikebath · 22/04/2020 14:10

I’d eat it but I’m not fussy Smile

diddl · 22/04/2020 14:10

It looks disgusting to me also.

Maybe that I'd be needing a knife & fork for the veg.

So it looks like a really unappealing stew as much as anything!

Pinkblueberry · 22/04/2020 14:23

I make a lentil stew (not keen on runny soups) which literally looks like someone threw up in the pan, but it tastes great so who cares Grin korma looks like baby poo - that doesn’t seem to put many off their curry takeaways. Why does it matter what the soup looks like??

londonrach · 22/04/2020 14:27

Sorry op looks like someone been ill. Need to cut the veg up more.

MashedSpud · 22/04/2020 14:37

It doesn’t look appealing but it tasted nice.

I expect your DH is Jamie Oliver or something seeing as he’s so eager to critique.

ZaraW · 22/04/2020 14:39

He's a childish twat, though appears he's not alone. 🙄

Nobody allowed to disagree with you then?!

georgialondon · 22/04/2020 14:44

It does look pond-like

billy1966 · 22/04/2020 14:49

Very rude to call it disgusting.

But blending that with a little milk would give it a velvety texture that most people like.

PhoneLock · 22/04/2020 14:49

That soup looks just like one I made last week. My husband wolfed it down and asked for seconds.

He actually commented that he preferred it more rustic than my usual "Blitzed up, hot smoothie" soup.
