Elton John

Did anyone else think something wasn’t right when Elton John was singing in world together? He sounded like his tongue was too big for mouth. Myself and DP had a good giggle at his performance. Apologies if this offends anyone, I completely understand the cause it was for and appreciate our front line/key workers, DP is a front line worker and I’m vulnerable.

Wtf? What a mean and unnecessary post.

QuentinWinters · 20/04/2020 00:31

Yeah I thought he sounded odd too. Not really singing clearly at all.

JeSuisTresEcule · 20/04/2020 00:31

Has he had his lips recently injected with fillers I wonder?.

enragedpenfold · 20/04/2020 00:31

It was pretty shit. I commented that he sounded awful and dh said Stevie Wonder was okay but it was all a bit fighting for relevance. Reminded me a bit of Paul McCartney at the Olympics. Sometimes ya gotta know when to quit Grin
That said, it might well be just that’s what they usually sound like before all the audio team gets to work Grin

perniciousdot · 20/04/2020 00:32

Wtf? What a mean and unnecessary post.

To be fair he sounded awful. Really bad.

Karwomannghia · 20/04/2020 00:32

Yeah ‘I’m dill dandin, yeah yeah yeah” I though maybe he’d had too much Botox.

WaktiWapnasi · 20/04/2020 00:33

What the...?

"Duptynuptydodadodaneeeerstunrna" - he sounds like a Vic and Bob club singer parody of himself.

Too much botox and fillers has buggered his resonance so he's having to fake it, is my best guess.

isabellerossignol · 20/04/2020 00:33

He has spent 50 odd years singing pretty constantly, I'd imagine his vocal chords aren't what they used to be.

I've never been a fan of his music although I appreciate his ability. But I think there does come a time when a singer, like any other professional, might be best to consider retirement.

NuzzleandScratch · 20/04/2020 00:33

I love Elton John, but I agree, and his singing has sounded like this for a while. I suppose maybe related to age? The words are so much clearer when you listen to his original recordings. Still enjoyed watching him though, and obviously all for a good cause.

Bronzedoor72 · 20/04/2020 00:33

I love Elton, he’s always on the playlist when we have a party. I just thought he sounded a bit strange tonight, we both thought maybe he’d had his lips done and changed his singing?

I thought Stevie Wonder was great. Wasn’t it interesting to see their houses? Some Like lady Gag definitely had cameramen/women there. One of little mix seemed to be singing from her bathroom.

Brogley · 20/04/2020 00:34

He's recently had pneumonia alongside other health problems last year including cancer.

But yeah, enjoy your fucking giggle. Hope next time you're unwell someone has a good laugh at your expense too.

Bronzedoor72 · 20/04/2020 00:38

What a horrible comment @brogley you have no idea what health problems I have. I’m not saying it was a terrible performance, he was great but sounded strange. It was an observation, surely we are all entitled to that

SylvanianFrenemies · 20/04/2020 00:38

He's 73 and as outlined above has had a number of recent health problems. Think he's pretty much retired now, isn't he. Don't really see the point taking the piss. It wasn't horrendously bad.

shinyredbus · 20/04/2020 00:38

Bit mean OP.....

Triglesoffy · 20/04/2020 00:38

Well, he was a damn sight better than Madonna at last year’s Eurovision.

SylvanianFrenemies · 20/04/2020 00:39

Bit of a backpedal when your OP says you were laughing at him 🤔

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/04/2020 00:39

Sounded like he’d had a drink. Elton is fab though; he’s knocking on now, voice is not what it was, but he’s still fab.

perniciousdot · 20/04/2020 00:39

It's his singing, not his medical history, being discussed. That said, I definitely wasn't laughing.

SylvanianFrenemies · 20/04/2020 00:43

The health problems potentially impact on his current physical function, though. For example, if his breath support is poor he may be overcompensating in his pronunciation, affecting the overall quality.

If the OP said "Elton didn't sound the same as usual, hope he's ok" that would be one thing....

Brogley · 20/04/2020 00:44

I’m not saying it was a terrible performance, he was great but sounded strange. It was an observation, surely we are all entitled to that

Changed your tune from your opening post where you said you and your DP had a good giggle about how he performed then? There are observations and then there's mocking someone for how they look/sound due to health issues.

perniciousdot · 20/04/2020 00:46

Well I don't disagree. He should not have been singing. People are all over twitter ripping the piss out of him now. Knowing when to stop is important.

Bronzedoor72 · 20/04/2020 00:49

Guess I got it all wrong, I apologies for any offence caused by this post and will request to get it removed? I am no way mocking health issues, I and other family members have a lot so I would never do that.

I enjoyed having a laugh with him, very reminiscent of vic reeves pub singer.

I have tickets to see him in November, fingers crossed he survives, love sir Elton.
