Did anyone else think something wasn’t right when Elton John was singing in world together? He sounded like his tongue was too big for mouth. Myself and DP had a good giggle at his performance. Apologies if this offends anyone, I completely understand the cause it was for and appreciate our front line/key workers, DP is a front line worker and I’m vulnerable.

Is it OK to mock if it's due to botox?

YgritteSnow · 20/04/2020 01:24

If he was ill, he wouldn't have been performing. He performed and was a bit rubbish and people are commenting on that. Stop trying to shame people for making perfectly reasonable observations.

I am in no way mocking physical illness, I have one that I am 100% sure people have commented/sniggered about before. If he was ill surely he won’t perform and just make a donation?

Aw, it was just a laugh

twirlycat77 · 20/04/2020 01:29

They get enough worship, celebs. If they aren’t up to scratch we have the right to comment. Some singers need to accept their glory days are over and not inflict rubbish singing on us.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/04/2020 01:34

They don’t inflict their “rubbish” singing on you, twirlycat. No one is forced to listen.

Bronzedoor72 · 20/04/2020 01:39

It wasn’t a laugh, it was an observation that I commented on and asked if anyone else had noticed. I never once in my OP made fun of an illness.

I'd stop explaining myself if I were you @Bronzedoor72. You know what your motives were when you posted. Don't let a few randoms on MN make you feel you have to keep explaining yourself. It won't be good enough no matter how many times you say it.

Dontcoughnearme · 20/04/2020 01:46

My face is full of Botox and I have literally quadrupled my lips in the past, I could still finish my words!

He has something wrong with his tongue or his breathing and lung capacity is shot.

It was awful.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 20/04/2020 01:46

Oh god i can't stop laughing, poor Elton.

It sounds like he just cane out of the dentist's after having a surprise filling and forgot he was meant to perform straight after.

Dontcoughnearme · 20/04/2020 01:48

And to all the snowflakes... Elton can take it, he dishes it out often and loves a good old bitch!

MartiniDry · 20/04/2020 01:48

He doesn't sound like himself at all. I do hope that it's not due to any health issues. Elton John is a bit of a national treasure.

Defenbaker · 20/04/2020 01:50

YANBU, OP, he sounded very odd, like he had developed a speech impediment. It was good of him to make the effort, but all the same it wasn't a good performance.

I wonder if he rehearsed this beforehand, and if so, whether anyone close to him (husband) tried to tell him that his vocals weren't good, but maybe it fell on deaf ears? Is he one of those stars who can't be told when it's time to bow out gracefully? (His choice, but people will inevitably comment on such an odd performance.)

GlummyMcGlummerson · 20/04/2020 01:51

The and ignore the utter weirdos on this thread accusing you of laughing at his health problems OP. Honestly MN is batshit crazy at the best of times, it's gone off the scale since lockdown.

Elton John is a millionaire and a bit of a bastard by all accounts, he won't give a flying fuck what someone on MN says. The performance was dire, it's fine to acknowledge that even if he is an "old man" Hmm. Not every post has to be buttercups and rainbows.

Bronzedoor72 · 20/04/2020 01:52

I’m glad the last few posters agree that he didn’t sound himself..@GlummyMcGlummerson after the dentist Grin

Would you laugh at someone with a speech impediment? Or a disability? Or a long-term illness?

JFC there's always one.

Elton John is none of the above. He's a very well paid performer who's been around for decades, when people like him put themselves in the public eye they open themselves up to be critiqued because, well, you can't say everyone is good can you, certainly not if it's a big fat lie. Why are people talking like he's some lowly little old man in a viler able group and the op is poking him in the ribs with a stick?

alltripe · 20/04/2020 02:09

It didn’t sound great. I wonder if it was partly because the microphone was turned up way too high. I read somewhere that none of them had any help with the technicals and they took a decision not to polish up anything after they received the recordings.

I saw him live roughly 4 years ago, in a fairly small venue, he sounded totally fine then.

Santaclauswhosthat · 20/04/2020 02:19

He was pretty poor, McCartney also. The whole thing annoyed me though because it was clearly about celebs trying to position themselves as relevant at a time when no one is paying much attention to them. sad

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 20/04/2020 02:25

Tell you who was amazing though - the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger belted out "You Can't Always Get What You Want" like he always has. I thought it was amazing, he's 76!

Lizzo's performance was great too, but she's a young' un.

Dontcoughnearme · 20/04/2020 02:25

Is that true @alltripe because I couldn't decide if J-Lo was lip-syncing?

perniciousdot · 20/04/2020 02:28

J-Lo was prerecorded and 100% lip sync

Dontcoughnearme · 20/04/2020 02:29

Thank you @perniciousdot! I'll sleep better knowing I was right. She looked great though under those fairy lights!

Dita73 · 20/04/2020 02:51

I didn’t see it but I think a lot of people felt the same as you because Vic Reeves was trending on Twitter because of it

Pinkarsedfly · 20/04/2020 03:00

He was crap. Most fun I’ve had for weeks though, so fair play.
