Elton John

Did anyone else think something wasn’t right when Elton John was singing in world together? He sounded like his tongue was too big for mouth. Myself and DP had a good giggle at his performance. Apologies if this offends anyone, I completely understand the cause it was for and appreciate our front line/key workers, DP is a front line worker and I’m vulnerable.

Well quite. Some vain, rich bitchy megastar pumps his face full of so much shit he can no longer sing or enunciate but we're all supposed to proverbially pat him on the head and tell him what a clever boy he is for a performance he should be embarrassed about?

Patronising and infantalising much?

He is an adult and not yet a little doddery old man. If he can't get past his hubris and mega ego to know when he needs to step down then that's on him and he deserves a pasting.

Madonna I'm looking at you too

tillytoodles1 · 20/04/2020 11:35

He's lisping quite badly.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 20/04/2020 11:46

@WaktiWapnasi well said!

UpToonGirl · 20/04/2020 11:47

I've just listened to his performance in 86 - princes trust and it actually sounds very similar if you can block out the back ground music. Add on 35 years and think he sounds great - his lung capacity would be massively reduced by now I should imagine.

I'm biased though, I love his music!

His performance in 2019 just played automatically when I was writing this and his lisp is more pronounced than 86 but having the background support blocks it out, unless you're listening for it.

StartupRepair · 20/04/2020 11:53

He was fantastic in concert on Jan 26 this year.

CaptainButtock · 20/04/2020 12:06

I think I know what happened here..

That's not Elton John. It's someone called Dill Danding doing an EJ impression.
Hth

Sockmonster23 · 20/04/2020 12:45

No we thought the same too. He had those health problems maybe time to retire. It's being horrible, it was very odd. My 90 ywar old nan said he should retire, she loves his music. Some on here must be very vicious in real life to attack like that with a simple comment. You were not being horrible.

Binterested · 20/04/2020 13:06

Saw him in Cardiff last year. Nearly three hours on stage with no backing singers. Incredible. He can still perform. Assume he had some specific problem yesterday (I didn’t see it)

How was Stevie Wonder ? He had a kidney transplant late last year and when we saw him in concert in the summer he was really struggling. Hope he’s doing ok 💓

RainbowBabyDreams · 20/04/2020 13:11

I wonder if the outdoor recording had an effect on the sound - the piano sounded different to usual. Lovely of him to do it though.

AllNewThings · 20/04/2020 13:22

Nice sentiment. Very odd performance though.

whipdido · 20/04/2020 13:30

Omg hilarious he's does sound like him and bob I'm crying laughing

Notredamn · 20/04/2020 15:03

Wtf? Is that really him or has someone who hates him Madonna doctored it to make him sound like that?
Very Vic and Bob.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 20/04/2020 15:56

VB introducing their varrr varr dear friend "Sir" Elton Hmm not sure if I had a varr varr dear friend I would use their title. Probably just said it for us plebs. Twit

dayswithaY · 20/04/2020 16:12

What a bunch of stupid comments. Elton is the baddest bitch ever - did you hear his comments about Madonna? Brutal. Of course it's fine to snigger about his cringe making performance, he gets more and more Dame Edna every year. The whole thing was just a long boring PR exercise for rich performers to shift some of their greatest hits on iTunes. Totally self serving the lot of them. And no one here has read Elton John's medical notes so they're not laughing at his disabilities or whatever nonsense someone said upthread. Get a sense of humour.

dayswithaY · 20/04/2020 16:16

Ugh - just watched the clip and didn't realise I would have the Beckhams inflicted on me. That should come with a warning, why do they have to worm their way into everything?

twirlycat77 · 20/04/2020 16:50

When VB said “our dearest friend Sir Elton John” was sickeningly cringe.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 20/04/2020 17:13

His voice has been rubbish for quite some time (think 'Sorry seems to be the hardest word' by Blue featuring Elton John). It used to be great but he, like many other singers (e.g. Paul McCartney), just don't know when to stop.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/04/2020 17:28

Not. I disagree. I remember being in another room and the kids were watching Blue on the telly. I came in at the end and said, “Bloody hell, which one of Blue has that amazing voice?” And DH laughed and said, “Er, Elton John actually.”

Cocolapew · 20/04/2020 17:49

Oh that's hilarious,I can't stop laughing. It's so bad it's brilliant.

rosiepony · 20/04/2020 18:15

Oh my god, I hadn’t seen that. It’s hilarious! I pm genuinely lolling!

Am doo danding, yeah yeah yeah

Pseudosudocrem · 20/04/2020 19:22

Gosh. It IS a bit strange.

Alsohuman · 20/04/2020 19:23

Stevie Wonder was brilliant @Binterested. When isn’t he?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 20/04/2020 20:19

Bloody Hell!
It's a shame when once talented people don't know when to hang up their spurs.
My dh who never comments on stuff like that said wtf when he watched it.
I really thought he'd forgotten to put his teeth in or something.
