Boris and the Virus

Intensive care at the crossroads of life and death, 3 days later suited and booted and giving speeches. Fishy or what?

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 14/04/2020 15:47

Do you think you are clever, OP as you sound the opposite?

FreakStar · 14/04/2020 15:47

Boris hasn't actually said he nearly died. Recovering because of the treatment you receive for a potentially life threatening illness, is not actually the same as being on the brink of death. Without treatment the illness may well have lead to his death, so effectively the nurses saved his life, yes- but brink of death? NO!

FliesandPies · 14/04/2020 15:47

I do hope he is eating lots of easter egg now, in comfy clothes and slippers

Aww bless him, yeah. It's not as if he's needed at work - Raab, Hancock, Patel, Gove etc are all just as capable of bungling, covering their backs and talking insincere shit about carers on the front line as Boris.

Justanotherlurker · 14/04/2020 15:48

This kind of conspiracy fueled nonsense is why the vocal left are generally laughed at online.

I bet your citing the Dorset Eye for this conspiracy.

This lockdown has exposed a lot of fucking simple minded idiots.

Actionhasmagic · 14/04/2020 15:48

Yanbu - he didn’t have the virus

titchy · 14/04/2020 15:48

OP I suspect the majority on this thread do not like BJ one bit. They simply reflect on how idiotic your post is, and highlight the fairly basic lack of understanding you have of politics.

Toothsil · 14/04/2020 15:48

Oh for god's sake, give the man a break. I can't believe the nastiness that is coming through from some people throughout this awful time.

I almost died a few years ago, I was in ICU on oxygen on the wednesday, they told my family they didn't think I'd make it. But I turned the corner and by the Saturday I made sure I was up and dressed ready to come home. I felt horrendous but my temperature had gone down and the dehydration had improved and I could breathe again. While I still felt absolutely shocking on the Saturday, I was massively better than when I went in, and I could, in theory, have put on some nice clothes and made a quick video before getting back into my comfy things and collapsing into bed. He wore a suit and made the video to show the nation he was ok.

And I know for sure that he was in ICU because my friend's girlfriend works in that ICU and she saw him.

Stop being so vicious.

Alialialiali · 14/04/2020 15:50

How do you know what state he was in in intensive care?
How do you know what he's going through now? When I go into work feeling like shit, I still try and look my best.
What do people like you expect? If you don't understand something it's not ok just to make something up.
Fishy? For what purpose? If anything he'd have avoided going to icu just to prove the disease wasn't as fatal as everyone's making out.

What do you want?

CandyLeBonBon · 14/04/2020 15:51

There was actually an article about this a couple of days ago in the mainstream media.

@Inkpaperstars I do think ecmo was used in his case. No one goes to intensive care just in case, particularly when beds are in high demand.
The newspaper articles carefully danced around the subject which they tend to do when they know something they’re not allowed to say.

Theduchessstill · 14/04/2020 15:53

I agree that if anything the media downplayed things.

That's the most ridiculous comment on here imo. When the death toll in this country was rising above what it had been in Italy and Spain on their worst days, our wonderful 'free press' was leading with 'Boris is sitting up in bed!' I wish him no ill as a human being and I think the OP is far-fetched and highly unlikely, but his illness has been exploited by his party and the right-wing press to detract attention from his government's woeful mishandling of this crisis and that will continue over the coming weeks as he is re-cast as a heroic 'fighter-off' of the virus. He'll be fully on board with that I'm sure - his track record shows he's not a man of principle and by all accounts I don't think he was ill enough to have undergone an life-changing epiphany.

And dismissing criticism of the government at this awful time as 'Boris bashing' is ridiculous.

Lily193 · 14/04/2020 15:53

OP, you sound like a total idiot. I despair.

Giraffe50 · 14/04/2020 15:54

Not fishy. Delighted he is on the mend. He does need to make sure he recuperates properly. Hopefully at the end of all this our NHS staff get a pay increase.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2020 15:58

🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes, I'm sure they made it all up as a publicity stunt. 🙄

Totally idiotic.

corythatwas · 14/04/2020 15:59

I think it's perfectly likely he had it, perfectly likely he was sent home as a better place to recuperate, perfectly likely that his pronouncement of NHS nurses saving his life was just a normal expression of relief that it didn't get worse.

What worries me is an announcement today (may be fake news) of some supposed spokesman that he has now tested negative. This, if true, does sound like he is being set up to return to active politics soon, quite likely while still infectious. Government ministers and MPs have been shockingly cavalier about infection control so far and this really, really would not help. Also, he is a human being (however revolting) and should be allowed the time to recover.

The whole Sacred Leader/Easter narrative was revolting, but no reason to suppose he was directly responsible for that. Plenty of people have an interest into deflecting attention away from actual government failure and cult around a Leader is a time-honoured way of doing that.

Inkpaperstars · 14/04/2020 16:00

@VivienScott

Very interesting, thanks for the info

Slith · 14/04/2020 16:00

We have plenty of tin foil in stock where I work if yours isn't strong enough...

Umnoway · 14/04/2020 16:00

I’m no Boris or even Tory fan but if you see his face on the video he released thanking NHS staff, he looks like death warmed up. I don’t see what benefit anyone gets from lying about how sick he was.

franklymydearidontgivea · 14/04/2020 16:01

In 2017 Theydid not vote for a pay rise, it was to remove the pay cap, which was a politically motivated addendum put for by comrade Corbyn. They subsequently removed the pay cap in October 2017, and in subsequent years all public sector workers ( this did not just impact the NHS) have received pay increases.

If you are going to believe the spin from the left wing propagandist factions, please fact check.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 14/04/2020 16:02

Where was it ever said he was 'at the crossroads of life and death'. It was actually said more than once that it was a precaution.

peepholepringle · 14/04/2020 16:02

Another pathetic thread.
Considering all NHS staff allegedly hate Boris and the Tories he'd have a hell of a time trying to cover up the massive lie wouldn't he?

CandyLeBonBon · 14/04/2020 16:02

@MaxNormal - yes I thought I saw that in the Economist but tried to search it in my news feed and it's gone.

CandyLeBonBon · 14/04/2020 16:04

6.37pm 12/04: Chris Lockwood, the Europe Editor of the Economist publicly states – “This is not someone who was at death’s door a few days ago. Something incredibly fishy about the whole business.

Antonin · 14/04/2020 16:08

Boris was just testing out the efficacy of his theory of herd immunity.
Interesting to know if he still supports it.
As a shielded vulnerable, unlikely to survive, I’m afraid I do not favour any theory that regards a significant portion of the population as dispensable in the public good.
Boris’s sickness, genuine or not has proved to be somewhat of a distraction from his failure to show strong and prompt leadership. Many of those who were previously critics are now falling over themselves to sympathise with him, wish him well etc and are unwilling to listen to anything negative about his performance to date
