AIBU to be getting irritated with this and be baffled? She is always saying this to me even though it's HUGE and mine is definitely smaller as she can see... and people always tell her it's big so surely she knows? But she will talk about how it's not big and she needs to start growing it etc (weight training) even though she literally gets comments on it on a regular basis. On one hand maybe she literally can't see how big it is, a lot of women are very critical of their bodies... but to actually say it's small and not big even though she's constantly getting comments on it?!
By the way this isn't a jealousy issue, it just baffles me why she is always saying this to me even though people always say it's big... also the fact mine is definitely smaller but she calls hers small and not big directly to me

The OP nailed it, the reason why big arses (with small waists) has become more desirable is due to the pornification of society. That body shape is ubiquitous in porn (due to the type of porn people are now watching and accepting as everyday sexual practice) and popular culture, this filters down into what is considered "attractive" and the general public then "aspire" to have this look too.

Big bums aren't only in black/Latin culture it's everywhere now. It's not fat bums that are desirable it's firm bums with small waists. Even athletes... Remember the fuss over Jessica Ennis and her muscular bum and in Hollywood Jessica Biel.

If she's bragging to fish for compliments/attention seeking/looking an ego boost then you're probably being unreasonable for giving it headspace.

It makes her sound silly but it wouldn't annoy me.

But if you think there's an element of her bragging to put you down or make you feel insecure then you're not being unreasonable.

Its attention seeking- for her, a big bum is desirable. She knows she has a big/nice bum as she's been told. She tells you and herself that it is small so she can be corrected that actually it is big/nice.
I have a gorgeous slim friend who constantly goes on about losing weight. I assume it's so we can all tell her how slim and beautiful she is and give her ego a boost. I ignore her when she says things like this. You can ignore your friend when it comes up 🤷🏼‍♀️
