Friend saying her (huge) bum is small

AIBU to be getting irritated with this and be baffled? She is always saying this to me even though it's HUGE and mine is definitely smaller as she can see... and people always tell her it's big so surely she knows? But she will talk about how it's not big and she needs to start growing it etc (weight training) even though she literally gets comments on it on a regular basis. On one hand maybe she literally can't see how big it is, a lot of women are very critical of their bodies... but to actually say it's small and not big even though she's constantly getting comments on it?!
By the way this isn't a jealousy issue, it just baffles me why she is always saying this to me even though people always say it's big... also the fact mine is definitely smaller but she calls hers small and not big directly to me

I completely understand. I had a friend who always complained about her weight when she was a teeny tiny size 8-10 and I'm a size 22. I actually found it quite insulting.

Personally I don't get the attractiveness of a big bum. I know I'd much rather have a small one!

They may not be new or surprising, but I'd have thought young people knew that unsolicited comments on women's bodies aren't really on h3av.

Probably, because the big bum/lip fashion objectifies black women. It's fetishisation,, complete focus on bodily parts rather that the person that inhabits the body. It's all a bit hollow and grim, and I know it's not a recent phenomena, but it's become more entrenched with social media.

She's trying to convince herself it's not big probably. It's a strategy I've seen obese friend use, shes always describing herself herself as a dainty petite little thing who barely eats. The opposite is true, shes at least 3stone overweight, the Dr is worried re her health & she's obsessed with food:its all she talks about. If I try changing the subject, within 5mins we are back onto food.

I have no opinions on the bum size issue, I am also stuck in heroin chic era.

But, I think I know what you mean OP, I also have a friend who goes on constantly about something that she genuinely perceives herself as, which she is the total opposite to. Quite bizarre.

I'm just hoping that if I wait long enough a big stomach will also come into fashion along with my big tits and arse.

For the people saying why do I care, it just bothers me because it doesn't make sense & I'm not saying it offends me but she doesn't know if it does or not... Like if I was telling her how fat I am & need to lose weight while constantly being told I'm thin and knowing she's bigger than me, to me it's basic decency not to do that but on the other hand she could have a warped perception

Then again, I'm baffled by this "big butt" phenomenon. When I was younger, "junk in the trunk" was more of a niche attraction and the average woman would rather be smaller, not larger.
