Friend saying her (huge) bum is small

AIBU to be getting irritated with this and be baffled? She is always saying this to me even though it's HUGE and mine is definitely smaller as she can see... and people always tell her it's big so surely she knows? But she will talk about how it's not big and she needs to start growing it etc (weight training) even though she literally gets comments on it on a regular basis. On one hand maybe she literally can't see how big it is, a lot of women are very critical of their bodies... but to actually say it's small and not big even though she's constantly getting comments on it?!
By the way this isn't a jealousy issue, it just baffles me why she is always saying this to me even though people always say it's big... also the fact mine is definitely smaller but she calls hers small and not big directly to me

EddyF I'm well aware of the significance of bums in the blake and BAME communities, let's both be honest here though, high-fashion may steal from the asthtetic but does generally not want to really embrace it, the most successful black and BAME models have generally followed a prevailing 'fashion' look.

Kim Kardashian is frequently accused of black-face and her arse is part of that, but she's about as authentic as my mum's rice and peas (you don't want to know).

I think much of the current Insta and reality fad is a rip-off of black and street culture. Black and BAME women with natural arses and lips look beautiful, a pumped up white pastiche looks awful.

Not because the general aesthetic is awful, because a commercialised bastardisation is awful.

Mittens030869 · 09/04/2020 21:06

If you're willing to play her game, do, but your friendship sounds dull, childish and tiresome. Don't you have any other friends you could play with, friends that aren't so bum-obsessed?

^This. I agree, I'd find your friend very tiresome, especially right now. I just can't imagine caring enough to get involved.

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 21:06

Do none of the “since when have big bums been attractive?” posters remember Kim Kardashian breaking the Internet?

No I genuinely don’t! I’ve heard of her and her family but I’m not sure what they actually do or are famous for. Could probably just about pick her out of a line up!

BrooHaHa · 09/04/2020 21:06

she's about as authentic as my mum's rice and peas

How authentic are her rice and peas? Genuinely not sure whether you're saying Kim Kardashian is authentic or not.

ddl1 · 09/04/2020 21:07

Well, I think you are both being U to obsess so much about your bums!

h3av3n · 09/04/2020 21:07

There's a big difference between the bodies of high fashion catwalk models and what's considered most attractive/sexy at the moment

I think porn has also influenced this heavily, big bums, shaking/making it clap etc have been popular and desirable among men before it was common for women to want bigger bums

Big bums are definitely a thing. Look at Kim kardashian! I actually have a family member that paid for bum implants. It’s not the ‘wide’ bum that’s desirable but the plump perky bum and thin waist!

Anyway op I think she’s attention seeking. Ignore.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/04/2020 21:14

h3av the idea that any particular thing is 'most' attractive because fashion dictates is a bit mad! It may prevail in media or fashions as exhibited by those who seek status from being 'right at the right time' but really 'The heart wants what it wants - or else it does not care'.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/04/2020 21:18

'Making it clap', how delightful!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/04/2020 21:19

Not very Broo.

Seetheprettysnowdrops · 09/04/2020 21:23

Am I in fashion now?

My arse is huge

KnitFastDieWarm · 09/04/2020 21:24

I find it mind blowing that this is news to anyone. Big bums have been ‘in fashion’ for about a decade now Hmm As the proud owner of a big arse and tiny waist I can tell you that yes, people do stop me in the street, ask me if I’ve had implants etc. It’s currently considered to be very attractive.
Of course it’s all a load of crap, all bodies are beautiful - but this is DEFINITELY the current aesthetic to aspire to.

KnitFastDieWarm · 09/04/2020 21:25

Also this thread has a nasty undercurrent of dog whistle racism to it - the expressions of astonishment and disgust at what is a traditionally celebrated shape for Black women is rather unpleasant.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/04/2020 21:27

No Knit, if people are completely unaware it's because it's an aesthetic popular with a certain demographic.

No aesthetic is universal.

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 21:27

I genuinely had no idea KnitFastDieWarm. I don’t really follow celebrity culture, don’t watch much TV and don’t really have much in the way of social media apart from MN. It’s been interesting to learn about it though!

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 21:28

If I was to think about it, I think I’m stuck in the ‘heroin chic’ era. Maybe that was the last time I paid any attention to it!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 09/04/2020 21:29

No dog-whistle here Knit, read my previous posts.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 09/04/2020 21:37

'Who is making the comments' men are making the comments, she gets complimented on it on a regular basis

Men go around commenting to strange women on the size of their bums? Confused And the women don’t tell them to fuck off?

h3av3n · 09/04/2020 21:39

Catcalling, hitting on someone or making comments on womens bodies definitely aren't new or surprising things surely

HoffiCoffi13 · 09/04/2020 21:40

I’m interested in how old you are h3av3n?

Thripp · 09/04/2020 21:43

@OVienna 😂😂😂

Fromthebirdsnest · 09/04/2020 21:44

Why do you care ?

Cillmantain · 09/04/2020 21:46

The two of you sound like 15 year olds.

sonjadog · 09/04/2020 21:47

Sad to read through the thread at discover that it is big muscular bums that are in fashion here and not big squishy ones. There was me thinking that my time had finally come.
