Anyone who’s been on a Boris-related thread on which I have posted knows I have my views about him.

But I am genuinely saddened and worried to hear this. Poor man shouldn’t have tried to push on through and continue working. Needed to rest and try to recover.

I hope he pulls through.

Katie2017 · 06/04/2020 23:11

*Disagree with you there. Boris looked horribly sick last Thursday, and has deteriorated pretty rapidly since that time. I don't rate his chances tbh, middle aged, obese, previous pneumonia, huge stress levels, possible co-morbidities as well as a smoking history/ possible other substances.

I feel sorry for him and those close to him, and hope I'm wrong.*

Do people really think he's obese? I'd call him overweight/chubby never would have thought he passed as obese..just looks like most middle-aged men with a bit of a belly. It'll be the stress and not resting enough that's done it I reckon. Kinda how when you do strenuous exercise you're not used to and think you're fine. The next day though, you're in agony. Even if you feel fine with this thing I really think you need to be resting as much as possible. Needed to be in bed this whole time, hope the rest he'll be getting now will do wonders.

starlightgazers · 06/04/2020 23:18

I think he's low level obese, yes, definitely. BMI 30 in someone not that tall is often not more than 'a bit of a tummy'. Even if he is only borderline obese, that is still an additional risk.

Oysterbabe · 06/04/2020 23:21

He's definitely obese.

StrawberryJam200 · 06/04/2020 23:22

To be fair the NHS advice says a BMI of 40 or above puts you at high(er) risk.

SemperIdem · 06/04/2020 23:27

My personal opinion is that Johnson is very gravely ill. I don’t think he will survive. The press would not be allowed to report what as they are if that were not overwhelmingly like to be the case.

Much like nothing was reported between Prince Charles diagnosis and subsequent recovery.

I didn't know what his BMI was. Yeh the extra weight would definitely not help, but thought people were saying he'd lost a bit of weight the past week as well so hoping that might help a little. Maybe because I haven't seen him that much or paid much attention to him before so only seen him in suits he didn't look like he would pass as obese.

Newhome321 · 06/04/2020 23:39

Reading some people comments here like watching a movies where people spit and throw stones to ones they hate in medieval time. Some hatred are truly astonishing.

Applejaxx · 06/04/2020 23:41

I might be imagining it but some of the reporters on TV tonight seemed shaken and not quite themselves. I suppose it is shocking news, but I can’t help but agree with Semperldem

notangelinajolie · 06/04/2020 23:42

Sod the country right now.
Poor Boris, poor Carrie and his poor family - they must all be besides themselves with worry. This is so sad - I'm not religious but will be saying a prayer for him tonight before I go to sleep tonight.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/04/2020 23:42

I think they all knew at the 5pm briefing hence the blank faced stonewalling. I also think the press has heard something hence the 101 versions of the same question.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/04/2020 23:43

had heard

notangelinajolie · 06/04/2020 23:47

My DH agrees with Semperldem

starlightgazers · 06/04/2020 23:49

Sod the country right now

Hardly, yes it is sad about Boris but he is only one of thousands who are critically ill tonight, the others and their families matter just as much.

notangelinajolie · 06/04/2020 23:54

starlightgazers Not hardly. It is absolutely about ALL those critically ill patients right now including Boris.

starlightgazers · 07/04/2020 00:04

Not hardly

'Hardly' in relation to the ridiculous 'sod the country' comment.

It is absolutely about ALL those critically ill patients right now including Boris

And those looking after them knowing they'll be likely facing the same fate in a couple of weeks. There is a lot of suffering in the country atm, compassion doesn't or shouldn't need to be restricted towards Boris and those who are very sick.

It's a horrible time for everyone, I just wish it would bring us all closer together rather than divide us all further.

notangelinajolie · 07/04/2020 00:34

I don't know why you feel the need to argue with me. I agree with you.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 07/04/2020 00:35

I don't rate his chances tbh

WTF is the point in comments like that?
He's a person.
As a fellow person I wish a speedy recovery.

starlightgazers · 07/04/2020 00:39

I don't know why you feel the need to argue with me. I agree with you

I know, and I'm honestly not trying to 'argue' with you - I am not the greatest at expressing myself in text and can often come across as quite ranty when I don't mean to - apologies Flowers

OhMargo · 07/04/2020 00:46

Sick people with the virus DO come out of ICU, there is a recovery rate.

Let's not be too despondent and hope fervently that Johnson is one of them, as I hope and think he will be.

As my Dad said when Mum had her devastating stroke.... Fear the worst, hope for the best.

That was 17 years ago and Mum died two years ago having battled and won a longer life than anyone would have thought. Bless her.

ivykaty44 · 07/04/2020 00:47

Wishing Boris all the best, his poor fiancé must be so stressed and best wishes to her.

viral load. Boris went on Covid wards and shook hands with patients. He also shook hands with lots of political figures. I don’t understand why would you do this?

Theflushedzebra · 07/04/2020 00:57

I thought Raab looked rather waxy-faced at the address this afternoon. Now we know why. Boris has looked so ill all week, and yes, he's more than 'chubby' - clinically, he is obese. So many of the UK are now - we've almost lost sight of what obese looks like. Piers Morgan is obese - a good suit hides it. Piers announced his weight on GMTV when he was doing some stupid diet challenge - and I looked it up. He was BMI 30 - obese. Boris is much bigger than Piers Morgan.

I desperately want him to pull through - I didn't vote for him, but I'd still rather he was in charge. But I've just been listening to the prognosis of people coming out if ICU on Sky News, and it doesn;t sound like he'll be able to drop straight back into the role in a week's time even if he does recover. I'm really worried. I don't like Dominic Raab at all.

Please get well, Boris. I just hope it's not as bad as we think :(

Shmithecat2 · 07/04/2020 01:06

@panicstationsready

And you're linking to a 3 week old interview because....?

Bugger off. Whatever Boris' father thought 3 weeks ago is irrelevant now. His son is ill in hospital ffs.
