Am I or DP in the wrong?

So, Yesterday, my wife cancelled the sky sports subscription without consulting me. She also cancelled the BT sport subscription, which will be active by the end of April. I only found out today, when I couldn’t watch any of these channels.

I then confronted my wife as to why she had done this. She told me that there’s no sport to watch, so it’s a waste of money, but I told her she should have consulted me first. I still wanted to watch a few repeats on these channels.

AIBU, or is my wife in the wrong?

Just ring them ask them to cancel the cancellation

CareBear50 · 06/04/2020 16:33

But yes....she should have asked you first

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 16:34

Can’t get through to them unfortunately, will try again tomorrow. @usercheeselover sorry if I’m not fulfilling your requirements of a stereotypical husband

doodleygirl · 06/04/2020 16:37

Well, unless she cancelled 30 days ago you will still be able to watch the sports. Just reinstate before the 30 days is up.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 16:39

How @doodleygirl. They don’t work anymore - she cancelled yesterday.

Rockdown2020 · 06/04/2020 16:45

She should have talked to you first. See if you can get it reinstated.

m00rfarm · 06/04/2020 16:56

There will be some exceptional deals when sports resume. Nearly everyone is cancelling or suspending sky sports etc

doodleygirl · 06/04/2020 16:57

I cancelled Sky last week and it takes 30 days. Just give them a call or try the live chat. Actually you would have received an email confirming the cancellation instructions, I am sure there will be instruction re reinstating.

amusedbush · 06/04/2020 17:19

Why wouldn't Sky advise her that she could suspend it? I called up last weekend and an automated service took me through my details then suspended the sports subscription - I didn't have to speak to anyone. The cost has been taken off my next bill and DH can still watch the channels.

It wouldn't let me do it online so your DP must have phoned up.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 06/04/2020 17:30

How odd that she didn't just pause it. Like pp said, you don't pay but the channels are still there. Weird that whoever she spoke to wouldn't advise her of this option.

Jammydodger1981 · 06/04/2020 17:32

This makes no sense. You either pay the normal price if you’re not in contract or you pay a lower price for being in contract but you can’t cancel. It would not cost you more to reinstate.

You also wouldn’t be cut off automatically like a pp said. You can also add sky sports onto your account online, and that must be how she cancelled it as sky aren’t taking calls about anything other than sales and bills right now. She would have seen that she could suspend it there.

The whole story stinks.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 17:34

@jammydodger1981 well I can no longer access the sky channels anymore

OP posts:
SimonJT · 06/04/2020 17:37

She made a mistake, she should apologise. If she calls Sky back she can sort it out, it won’t be difficult.

TreeTopTim · 06/04/2020 17:48

When you say you can't watch the sky channels is it all of the channels or just the sports ones?

If others are saying that they get a 30 day period there must be something if you can't watch anything and she cancelled it yesterday. I don't have much knowledge of this as I feel that sky is extortionate and would never pay for it.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 17:53

I can only watch sky sports news, sky news, sky Atlantic etc, but none of the sport channels

OP posts:
ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 06/04/2020 17:59

Why wouldn't Sky advise her that she could suspend it?

Exactly this. Sky wouldn’t have just cancelled it without first explaining that you can pause sports. They would rather keep the person on that contract.

I’m calling bullshit on this. This is definitely ‘fake news’ as Trump would say. OP just keeps repeating themselves over and over.

It doesn’t even add up.

Bullshit.

Indecisiveragazza · 06/04/2020 18:01

Can anyone tell me how to pause Sky Sports? I’ll talk to dp first!

Indecisiveragazza · 06/04/2020 18:05

What I mean is....... does anybody have the appropriate Sky number to call? Thank you.

pleasepleasepleasehelp · 06/04/2020 18:05

I agree with what @ConstantlySeekingHappiness said ^^

Also, if you are married @Guyonhere1 why is everything all 'her money, my money?' We pay half each for this, and half for that etc etc? Why are you not pooling your finances? Are you not life partners?

Sounds like a strange marriage. You sound more like flatmates.

hesgotit · 06/04/2020 18:06

@Indecisiveragazza you can do it on the website, you don't even need to talk to DP, because it won't change what he can watch, it will just change the fact you don't pay for it. It's the cancelling that has stopped OPs viewing.

It's a win win!

amusedbush · 06/04/2020 18:07

@Indecisiveragazza

Log into your Sky account and try to change the package. It will give you the correct number to phone.

When the automated thing asked why I was calling I said ‘cancel sky sports’ and it took me to an automated service that verified my details and suspended the subscription.

StormTreader · 06/04/2020 18:09

She's probably imagined the next 6 weeks of being stuck in the house in lockdown with constant football repeats on 18 hours a day, and gone for this rather than burying you under the patio.

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2020 18:09

I’d be annoyed if my husband Did something like this without discussing with me, and he’d be royally fucked off if I cancelled sky sports without discussing with him

For me , if it’s something you both use then no one should be mak8ng unilateral decisions.

JazzTheDog · 06/04/2020 18:14

If she only cancelled yesterday you still have access until the next direct debit. So if they have disappeared then they were either cancelled a month ago or there's something up with your Sky.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 18:19

I think it’s because I still have access to all other channels apart from the sport ones until we want to unfreeze our account. Then repayments will start again. This is what DP told me
