Am I or DP in the wrong?

So, Yesterday, my wife cancelled the sky sports subscription without consulting me. She also cancelled the BT sport subscription, which will be active by the end of April. I only found out today, when I couldn’t watch any of these channels.

I then confronted my wife as to why she had done this. She told me that there’s no sport to watch, so it’s a waste of money, but I told her she should have consulted me first. I still wanted to watch a few repeats on these channels.

AIBU, or is my wife in the wrong?

@guyonhere1 omg do it! Really spice up your lockdown😂😂😂

Candyfloss99 · 06/04/2020 14:31

No-one is in the wrong then. She didn't think anyone would want to watch repeats of sport (understandable) you can probably find them all on YouTube anyway. You do want to watch them so can ring sky and explain. No big drama really.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 14:39

@candyfloss99 the fact she didn’t ask though is selfish

showmethegin · 06/04/2020 14:42

I think you're blowing it massively out of proportion. She obviously didn't realise about repeats; I've seen loads of people on social media saying they've cancelled their subscriptions. She didn't do it maliciously.

Why would you get so het up about it? Considering you're probably holed up together for what could be months just move on.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 14:43

@showmethegin but now I have nothing to watch

Candyfloss99 · 06/04/2020 14:44

@guyonhere1 why ask if you are being unreasonable if when someone tells you that you are in fact being unreasonable you argue with them?

sunshineandshowers21 · 06/04/2020 14:47

you sound pathetic. cancelling netflix to get back at her is petty and childish. i’m the sports fan in our house and i cancelled our sports subscriptions because of there being no live sport. if you’re fuming because you can’t watch repeats then maybe you should get a hobby.

ButteryPuffin · 06/04/2020 14:47

Use it to your advantage. See if you can get a better deal. They often ring after you've cancelled and offer you one. Or you can ring the retention department and say you had decided to leave but if there was a decent discount you might reconsider.

TellMeWhoTheVilliansAre · 06/04/2020 14:47

I'd say you're hard work!!

"now, I have nothing to watch"!!

Have you heard of the internet?!

You sound like a teen looking into a full cupboard saying "there's nothing to eat".

Why is your wife paying half the sports subscription if she doesn't watch it? Reinstate, get whatever deal you can. They usually give "new" customers better deals anyway. And pay it in full yourself.

Fluffybutter · 06/04/2020 14:48

I’d never do this to dh and he wouldn’t do it to me .
What was so hard about talking to you first ?
Seems underhanded

Fluffybutter · 06/04/2020 14:49

@TellMeWhoTheVilliansAre because there are probably channels she watches that he doesn’t ?! Ffs ..

BogRollBOGOF · 06/04/2020 14:49

It is rude to cancel the subscription primarily affecting someone elsr without consultation with them, especially if there's not an imminent financial concern.

pinkyredrose · 06/04/2020 14:49

cancelling netflix to get back at her is petty and childish i think it sounds pretty fair!

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 06/04/2020 14:50

Have you seen how much sky sports costs? If she didnt know you could suspend it its a shame and she might have told you. Apart from that not worth divorcing over

Whoareyoudududu · 06/04/2020 14:51

She obviously should have consulted you first.

DangerCat01 · 06/04/2020 14:53

When I was getting divorced I deleted my DH’s ‘saved’ films (it was the olden days) out of spite. I feel very ashamed now but watch out, this could be the start of something big!

sunshineandshowers21 · 06/04/2020 14:53

my sky and bt sports costs £60 a month. no way would i keep paying that just to watch repeats.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/04/2020 14:53

i think it sounds pretty fair!

She did it to save money because she thought no one would be watching it. He'd be doing it to be a cunt. Not the same. Therefore not fair.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 14:54

Yeah, thanks for your advice.

OP posts:
AmelieTaylor · 06/04/2020 14:54

How selfish of her to cancel it without a discussion. It’s ‘your thing’ not hers.

billy1966 · 06/04/2020 14:55

Very, very rude of her, and disrespectful.

I think basic courtesy would indicate you consult the person you live with before you make an unilateral decision like that.

Very rude.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 06/04/2020 14:55

We suspended our Sky Sports subscription (rather than cancel it) - are you sure she hasn't just suspended them? If so, you can get them reinstated straight away.

Praiseyou · 06/04/2020 14:57

Sky have suspended their sports subscriptions for the duration so she was unreasonable.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 14:57

I’ll have to phone them up to check later on.

OP posts:
onanothertrain · 06/04/2020 14:57

She shouldn't have cancelled without talking to you, it's disrespectful. It's irrelevant who pays for it.
