Am I or DP in the wrong?

So, Yesterday, my wife cancelled the sky sports subscription without consulting me. She also cancelled the BT sport subscription, which will be active by the end of April. I only found out today, when I couldn’t watch any of these channels.

I then confronted my wife as to why she had done this. She told me that there’s no sport to watch, so it’s a waste of money, but I told her she should have consulted me first. I still wanted to watch a few repeats on these channels.

AIBU, or is my wife in the wrong?

@Tiffanysetting erm yes

when they were babies, inoculations, check ups with the health visitor.

Confused
Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 15:32

Thanks @Pentium85. I know they generally don’t like men, but I did get some good advice

I had an email from Sky on 21 March saying that because there was no live sport they were reducing my subscription until things were up and running again. When my direct debit went out today they had reduced it by nearly £30.

Fluffybutter · 06/04/2020 15:35

@usercheeselover any one can cancel if they know the password .
You put one on your account if you want both of you to be able to speak to them

saraclara · 06/04/2020 15:38

You sound like a 2 year old I've got nothing to watch.

So @usercheeselover if your husband cancelled the channel you watch most without consulting you, you'd be fine with it?

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 15:39

@saraclara trust me, I wouldn’t have minded if we came to a decision TOGETHER to cancel the channel, but she felt the need to do it herself without asking me

IndecentFeminist · 06/04/2020 15:41

Netflix is a different kettle of fish, mega cheap and no change in service.

YouTheCat · 06/04/2020 15:44

How much time do you spend glued to the sports channels?

Do you have kids together?

LochJessMonster · 06/04/2020 15:44

YANBU. She should have discussed it with you first.

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 15:44

@indecentfeminist so, the cost is irrelevant to what I’ve said

OP posts:
Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 15:45

@YouTheCat as I’m self employed, I sit down doing my work whilst watching the sports.

We don’t have kids together

OP posts:
LochJessMonster · 06/04/2020 15:46

@YouTheCat How is that relevant? The wife didn’t do it because he’s always on it, or because he doesn’t look after the children Hmm

Why is MN so against men. It’s embarrassing.

If an woman came on and said her husband had deleted her favourite channel, or cancelled Netflix without asking, MN would be furious and ‘controlling’ would definitely be mentioned...

YouTheCat · 06/04/2020 15:46

Is your wife working from home too?

YouTheCat · 06/04/2020 15:47

I'm not against men. I'm asking questions so I can make an informed decision.

YouTheCat · 06/04/2020 15:51

Also, I still think it would have been better to discuss it before cancelling. It'd be interesting to see whether she's done this because she thinks her dh isn't pulling his weight of if she's done it because she's just not very nice.

Auridon4life · 06/04/2020 15:55

Is she fed up with you watching sport all of the time? Are you hogging the remote while she sits there bored stiff?

Jiggeriepokerie · 06/04/2020 15:57

If I cancelled the sports channels there'd be a riot in my house! She was unreasonable and at the very least should have spoken to you about it.

Ontheboardwalk · 06/04/2020 16:02

Are you sure she cancelled and didn’t suspend sky sports?

Can you still view the channels? I’ve suspended but they still let you have access to the channels

GreytExpectations · 06/04/2020 16:06

@usercheeselover you are being a twat. Maybe don't make assumptions about people you don't know just because of their sex?

Guyonhere1 · 06/04/2020 16:08

@ontheboardwalk none of the sport channels, apart from Sky Sports News, work

OP posts:
CurryGoat · 06/04/2020 16:18

Your wife is unreasonable. Ignore the men haters. Bye!

motherheroic · 06/04/2020 16:23

Yeah, I don't usually say this but posters would definitely be talking about abuse and 'is he always like this?' if the situation was flipped.

Ontheboardwalk · 06/04/2020 16:23

Guyonhere1 I think you’re going to struggle getting through to Sky at the moment, they are asking people not to call them

You could try their chat facility? Might be a while to get connected but they’ve been very helpful for me in the past

rubberoftheband · 06/04/2020 16:26

She should've spoken to you first, it maybe try calling them and asking them to put it back on and just suspend it.

@usercheeselover not all man are like your DP! So don't assume a male isn't actively involved in admin.

dontdisturbmenow · 06/04/2020 16:28

She made an error, she should apologise, you should avoid making a big deal of it and move on as soon as resolved.
