To suggest book sharing amongstDD’s classmates

We’ve run out of books. Already! Because DD an absolute book worm. I can’t justify spending loads on new books and libraries closed.

WIBU to suggest on class watsapp group that we set up a book share system? On the understanding that books are are thoroughly cleaned, wrapped in bag and left on doorstep?

It’s a small class of 15, all nice and considerate (none of the “bitchy” glares, cliques and high drama I read about in the world of mumsnet).

Thanks

Costa coffee agree this is hard work Confused

Bringringbring12 · 05/04/2020 17:09

But no answer, hmm

Anyway, book on door step so all good

Hope you don’t get too agitated opening that “essential” packet of biscuits / crisps / coffee etc you purchased.

15 kids traipsing around dropping off books for each other is hardly essential travel.

Bringringbring12 · 05/04/2020 17:14

@Cohle

Very close catchment area
Half hour stroll out for daily exercise. Drop on door step. Pre arranged so no clash with another.

Cohle · 05/04/2020 17:18

A "half hour stroll" doesn't seem like much exercise for active kids but each to their own.

Here's a note on the current state of "how long does it last on surfaces", research is ongoing of course - spoiler, cardboard is 24 hours.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/04/how-long-does-coronavirus-live-on-different-surfaces for the easy read, www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2004973?query=featured_home for the paper.

I think you're coming across as a bit of a twat now Op.

Bringringbring12 · 05/04/2020 17:25

@Cohle

It’s not, is it? But not much else one can do in very densely populated town centre area for many.

OP posts:
Bringringbring12 · 05/04/2020 17:26

* cardboard is 24 hours.*

Won’t be touched until Wednesday am

Thumbs up!

Despite having a ridiculous quantity of paper books I've totally gone over to kindles now. The ones with the black&white e-paper screens, not the cheap tablets - the difference is amazing, they are like reading paper not like being on a screen. If you can source a spare one off family (and not poke it for three days because plastic!) it'll be a bit of a joy for a kid that reads a lot. Lots of very cheap ebooks.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 05/04/2020 18:09

OPs child is too special for ebooks.

Wonder what she’ll do when they stop the daily outside exercise. Or if the police stop her on her way to drop off some books and ask her to justify her essential travel.

PleasantVille · 05/04/2020 23:04

You can get the kindle app on iPhone

But I could buy loads of books for the cost of an iphone, I would and have swapped books with a friend, dropped off and picked up during my daily walk

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 05/04/2020 23:33
Hmm

No one was suggesting OP buy an iPhone. Please engage your brain. It was a suggestion that in the event OP already had an iPhone she could download a free app and then her DD could read free books. Within minutes, from her own sofa. Without having to leave the house.

The app is also available for android phones.

Changednamesorry · 05/04/2020 23:52

Lord above this is ridiculous!!!A book share? Between children.

Download the Kindle app on your phone!

I cannot believe my eyes reading this. Here are the recommendations in Spain for what you should do every time you come home and you guys are dropping off kiddies books? I am stunned, honestly. Please rethink.

This is so annoying , no you shouldn't , the books could infect you all , this is why we will be in quarantine for a long time ,people Won't listen ! if your daughter loves to read ebooks are a good about as people have suggested or maybe if you. Haven't got lots of money to buy new books try getting one set that's an alternative ending one where it's a new book EvERY time you read it , my lb loves those , I really.hope you stay safe and no one especially a child gets ill from this .. Lovely idea in normal times , silly to do right now .

Bringringbring12 · 06/04/2020 05:59

Genuinely curious
This book will be left on my doorstep for more than 72 hours wrapped in a bag

How is this a risk?

Not vague woolly emotionally loaded responses.

If it’s left should be ok?
So pleased we didn’t get rid of our books we have loads on bookshelves dd2 aged 11 is basically working her way through them the challenge for me is remembering whether they appropriate or not! She loved the Ya Ya sisterhood trilogy.

Deepgreenandblue · 06/04/2020 08:50

Not vague woolly emotionally loaded responses.

You're an idiot.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 06/04/2020 09:29

OP are you really going to make your DD wait until Wednesday before she can read a book when she could have been reading since Saturday on an app? Just to make a point?

Bringringbring12 · 06/04/2020 09:36

She's not here. At her dad's

OP posts:
JuanSheetIsPlenty · 06/04/2020 09:40

question still applies- are you really going to make her wait until Wednesday to read a book when she could have been reading since Saturday on an app? Or is her father in possession of some common sense and will allow her to be exposed to words on a screen?

Bringringbring12 · 06/04/2020 10:07

She has a book at her dad's. She always has two on the go rather than ferrying between houses.

OP posts:
JuanSheetIsPlenty · 06/04/2020 10:12

Sure! Grin

Maybe neither parent can afford a Kindle, or more than one device?
