The “evidence” isn’t anywhere close to definitive as yet because this is such a new virus it’s impossible to know for certain how long it survives on certain surfaces.
They can’t even definitively say yet it isn’t airborne and not just droplet spread.
Regarding using other items coming into the home, we can’t completely avoid touching/using possibly contaminated surfaces but it IS our responsibility to ourselves and others to limit this to essentials only, books (and I say this as an avid reader since childhood myself and lit graduate) are NOT essential!
I have quite a few friends and ex colleagues who are hcps now and frontline key workers and they’re getting rightly mightily pissed off that people won’t just follow the rules and keep activity to the bare minimum required, constantly looking for loopholes to bend the rules is literally risking people’s lives right now!
They’ve already lost 2 colleagues to the virus one a hcp and one a police officer.
Quit whining, making ridiculous attempts to justify selfish actions and making excuses and just follow the rules.
“audiobooks are the mcdonalds version or real books” utter nonsense! The content is the same! Would you say that about a parent reading to a child or someone reading in person to someone with sight loss? Of course not don’t be so utterly ridiculous!
Before books existed there was very much a long and proud history of oral storytelling.
Postal workers are actually desperately trying to get employee protection via the union as they’re being treated dreadfully right now and are very concerned they are being placed at considerable risk.
Myself and others are saying to Royal Mail on sm and by email that deliveries of junk mail certainly need to stop right now.
“Reading is reading, whether it's a book or a tablet, or indeed a comic or the back of a cereal packet!” Exactly!
